They Go In
"Fighting fire is just hard, boring work punctuated by sheer terror."

The protection of human life is the first priority for firefighters. In the northern portion of Idaho, the numerous state and national forests are monitored by the Knowlton Wildland Fire Team. The team consists of several components; hotshots, smokejumpers, and aerial firefighting pilots who work in conjunction with local paramedics and officials during fire season in order to prevent loss of life and property. These people go in when everyone else is rushing out.

Rules
  • Effectively communicate with your fellow roleplayers. If there is an issue or if you're struggling to make a post, let us know and we will help you choke slam your writer's block and throw it out a 7th story window.
  • Post length can vary given the situation and what you have to work with, but please try to get at least two solid paragraphs in per post. Proper grammar and spellings should be used. Make sure that you include content in your post that allows for others to build off of it. If it doesn't, then it might as well not exist in the first place.
  • Activity is a must. Should you ghost on the roleplay, your character will be taken over as an NPC, and shall serve as whatever plot device I see fit. Whether they suffer an injury, get killed, or decide that that they no longer wish to be on the team, they will be removed from the roleplay and we will continue on without you.
  • If you know you're gonna be unavailable for a period of time, let us know beforehand and try to find a way to temporarily disengage your character(s) from interaction before you disappear. That way your characters can come back later with minimal difficulty.
  • There are physical tasks that your characters must be able to complete in order to be a smokejumper or hotshot. Please consider this when creating your characters.
  • No perfect characters, your characters can get hurt if they do something stupid or outside the realm of human capability. Put 'Blaze It' in the Other section of your character sheet.
  • The primary focus will be on the firefighting team during the fires. Your main characters will be on the team, your supporting characters will not be.

Roles on the Team

The story will revolve around our fire team; these are the main characters of this roleplay.
  • Aerial firefighters fly aircraft to support ground resources in combating wildfires. They drop retardant and supplies as needed.
  • Hotshots are highly specialized and experienced ground crew of about 20 firefighters that excel in making fire lines by hand. They are somewhat frequently deployed by helicopter to quickly arrive at the fire. They will always have lookouts responsible for watching the fire and ensuring their group's safety. They often travel large distances to provide support on multiple fires. There is a fully trained medic that gets sent out with them, and they all have basic first aide training. Their hotshot certification is tested annually.
  • Smokejumpers are trained to parachute into remote areas in order to combat wildfires using hand tools. They have supplies dropped to them which allow them to stay self-sufficient on a fire for 48 hours. They operate in teams of about six and have to get recertified annually. They all have basic first aide training.

Supporting Cast

These characters flesh out the world that our fire team will interact with and give the story meaning beyond our main characters. These are the people they serve and rely upon to keep doing what they do best. You are welcome to play a few of these as needed.
  • Local residents to the area our team operates in.
  • Family members of team members that might come to visit.
  • Support crew at home base, including resident aircraft mechanics and groundskeepers.
  • Fire watch tower workers.

Nicknames
Leo, Frenchie
Age
40
Gender
Male

Height
5'-10"
Weight
210lbs

Role On Team
Aerial Firefighter
Dialogue Color
#882a10

GENERAL INFO

Physical Build
Leone has tanned skin and softer facial features, with almond-shaped ash grey eyes that are far more expressive than he realizes. Combine that with his inability to grow out a decent beard or mustache, and the fact that he has dimples when he smiles, and poof, you get a guy who looks halfway decent but not quite making it into the sexy fireman calendar levels of attractive.

He stands at 5'10", has a decent build, and could very easily blend in with a crowd. He has dark brown, borderline black hair that's cut in a simple crew cut... Or more accurately, growing out from the crew cut stage into a little bit of a mess. His knuckles have some faded scars on them. He has a pretty bad burn scar covering the majority of his back, and he takes care to keep it hidden.

Clothing Style
His clothing can best be described as threadbare and worn half to death. He has yet to develop a personal style, often just taking what fits from secondhand stores. He doesn't take much pride in his appearance and tends to see looking halfway nice as a chore. He almost always wears a pair of steel toed boots as he's fairly prone to stubbing his toes around Home Base and got fed up with it.

PEOPLE

Sexuality
He's mostly straight, barring any blackout drunk activities. Drunk Leo doesn't care as long as he isn't going home alone. This is why we do not let Drunk Leo out in public.

Crush
He hasn't really shown much interest in anyone, save for the owner of the bar in town, but that isn't quite a romantic attraction. Rumor has it that he went home with Pablo after a long night out drinking a while back, and his lack of memory on the occasion and Pablo's sense of humor have done nothing to stop it.

Family
Pablo Martinez, brother-at-arms. They've been through the thick of it together, Pablo's probably the only person that knows him inside and out.

Charlotte Lavallais, sister. He has a complicated and fairly tentative relationship with his younger sister, often surprised by her phone calls and fumbling interactions with her.

Seraphine Lebrun, mother. Deceased. He wishes that she could have been there more for him growing up, but that wasn't in her plans and her partying lifestyle was what killed her.

Gabriel Lavallais, father. Alive and well, probably at a casino somewhere flirting with a pretty little thing in a cocktail dress. Leone has a deep anger for the man, seeing that the guy was willing to raise his sister and leave him with his absentee mother.

PERSONA

Personality
Leone is fairly quiet and has a habit of just fading into the background of a scene. He can be a bit awkward when he's unexpectedly pulled into a conversation and his responses are often short and to the point. Pablo has frequently referred to him as the awkward turtle of the base due to his slow to open up nature and almost timid presence. The tough guy soldier is a little shy when it comes to normies, so what. He's really not one for major social functions, though he does enjoy the company of others... In small doses.

He is very critical in his thinking and analysis, and he's good at listening to a lot of people at once. This is why he's the Air Tac Supervisor. He shows a lot more confidence and backbone while he's working. He is an honest person and would never say anything bad about anyone unless it's something that can be worked on or fixed when it gets pointed out. He can have quite a mean streak if someone's actions endanger themselves or others, and he doesn't have patience for anyone that can't be bothered to listen to advice or instruction.

Likes
Rum and coke, drawing, bird watching, flying.

Dislikes
Uppity people, shopping, spending money, overcomplicating things, overcrowded environments.

Mannerisms and Quirks
Leone's posture is always perfect. He usually has some kind of thing to play or mess around with in his hands. He isn't particularly close with anyone on the team and rarely shares much about himself.

Skills
Land navigation, wilderness survival, can fly almost anything, fluent in multiple languages, multi-tasking.

Detriments
Anti-social, smoker, alcoholic tendencies, hypervigilant to a worrying degree, anxiety issues.

BIO

Leone knew exactly where he rated on his mom's priority list, and unfortunately it was not at the top. Growing up, he and his mother moved from house to house for a few months at a time, staying with various questionably distant relatives and bouncing around the US like a plastic bag on the side of the road. His mother fell ill from her hardcore partying lifestyle and was in and out of the hospital a lot towards the end. He learned to make do with what he had, always worried about becoming too much of a burden. When she passed, he landed in an orphanage and requested his last name be changed to Donadieu. He didn't care much for school and was lucky enough to graduate high school by the skin of his teeth.

Even though school wasn't his greatest area of performance, he did score high on his ASFAB testing, which led to him joining the Army. He went straight for the pilot program offered, and with that completed, he pushed himself even further. He volunteered to join the Ranger School and proved himself to be a strong leader. Over the course of his military career, he had been engaged with a girl he'd met at a bar for a couple years, but she ended up passing away due to a long term illness. He was a mess for a good while afterwards, and after a significant injury he was honorably discharged with a Purple Heart.

He spiraled bad once he was back stateside. Pablo, one of his only close friends left from his Army days, suggested taking a DNA test to try and track down some family and build up some support that way, and he gave it a shot. Turns out he had a little sister living in Louisiana. Pablo then conned him into getting his shit together before he would meet his little sister.

Hence why Leone ended up in Fire School. Fortunately his love for actual practical education kept him above the water and his military piloting experience made him a very strong candidate for the Air Tactical Group Supervisor position for the Knowlton Fire Team. He's now held the position for two years, having pulled himself out of his downward spiral for the most part. He still has a few bad habits, but they're kept fairly quiet. His sister reached out to him through the DNA test site, catching him off guard and nuking the timetable he'd been working himself towards.

OTHER

He often speaks with a Cajun French accent.

Height
5'-11"
Weight
199lbs

Role On Team
Smokejumper
Dialogue Color

GENERAL INFO

Physical Build
Martin is 5'11" with light brown hair and plain blue eyes. His hair is long enough to get tied back in a man bun, and when let down it falls in waves. He has a crooked grin and can only quirk one of his eyebrows. He pretty much always has a five o'clock shadow and he can pull it off fairly well. His skin has a nice sun kissed tan. He has a couple scratches and little scars on his face, making him look older and more weathered.

He is noticeably muscular, with broad shoulders and a nice butt which tend to come somewhat standard with the job. He is more built for endurance than speed, often bringing up the tail end of any physical activities looking no worse for wear but never setting any records.

Clothing Style
Like most poisonous animals, Martin wears brightly colored clothing as a warning for others to leave him be... Or more correctly, to challenge people into making his day. His favorites are Hawaiian shirts.

PEOPLE

Sexuality
Chaotic bisexual with notorious commitment issues.

Crush
He flits from one interest to the next.

Family
Emily Murray, mother. She worries a lot about his reckless tendencies.

Daryl Murray, father. He's reluctantly come to accept that Martin is going to do whatever he wants.

He's in loose contact with his six older siblings, who all have taken on arguably riskier jobs than him.

PERSONA

Personality
Martin is clever and quick witted, with a habit of running his mouth with sarcastic quips when he isn't actively working. He is often the first to speak up when someone's getting unrealistic expectations and takes a little bit of joy in poking holes in their dreams. It's moderately entertaining for him. He tends to mess with people until he gets a reaction and is generally known for breaking the tension when tempers start to flare up.

His somewhat loud and obnoxious behavior can sometimes make it difficult for people to take him seriously. He does have his moments, though. He doesn't bother with people he doesn't care about and absolutely will get into a fistfight for the sake of a friend. He is a calm and assertive force in the smokejumper crew. He helps keep everyone steady and at least a little relaxed enroute to a fire. He has a knack for spotting and reading the air around a fire.

Likes
Practical jokes, getting rises out of people, lounging by the pool, working out, jumping out of perfectly good aircraft.

Dislikes
Things being quiet, empty environments, things looking too clean.

Mannerisms and Quirks
Martin always knocks on the side of the plane three times before he jumps.

Skills
Reading people, comedic timing, holding people's attention, jump planning, apologizing.

Detriments
Ruthless, unpredictable, overworking, quick to resort to physical violence, adrenaline junkie.

BIO

Martin came from a loud, busy, and overcrowded home. He was the youngest of six kids and his parents had also taken in his cousins. With the full assortment of Murrays in the household, the loudest tended to get the most attention and he wanted to be in the spotlight. He was never one to back down from a dare and his capacity for shenanigans got him in trouble frequently at school. While his brothers and sisters and cousins all went out to take on significantly high risk jobs such as Alaskan crab fishing, demolition derby driving, motocross racing, and his brother Mike even going so far as to be a rodeo clown... Martin took the safer option of becoming a skydiving instructor.

He was fairly content with his work, but a group of people kept booking jumps with him and they piqued his interest. What with them talking about jumping into wildfires and all, he just couldn't resist getting some more information. The idea of him being able to help out people while still getting his kicks had him hooked and he ended up signing up for Fire School.

He's been a spotter for the smokejumpers at Knowlton for the past seven years, and is less than impressed by the new Air Tac guy. He doesn't like him and doesn't trust him, finding him too quiet and too much of a hard ass outside their usual operations.

OTHER

Frequently gets blamed for almost every shenanigan that occurs at Home Base.

Pablo Martinez

Name:
Pablo Martinez

Nicknames:
Junkyard

Age:
39

Gender:
Male

Occupation:
Chief Aircraft Mechanic

Appearance:
Pablo has brown hair and brown eyes, and has been working on a nice little goatee mustache combo thing. He's 5'8", with a solid muscular build. He has the same military posture as Leone, though he's gotten better at relaxing it. He has some bad burn scars on his arm and side, and notably has a prosthetic leg.

Relatives:
Leone Donadieu, brother-in-arms. The pair share a past and are thick as thieves.

Estranged parents, Emanuele Martinez and Hector Martinez.

Bio:
Pablo was a fairly straight laced kid in an environment that was decidedly not so straight laced. He joined the Army straight out of high school, becoming an aircraft mechanic. He became decent friends with a pilot that everyone called Frenchie, and ended up joining Ranger School with him. The two proved themselves to be quite the force through their training and were assigned to the same unit. He'd been toying with the idea of leaving the Army, but didn't feel right leaving Leone to his own devices following the death of his fiancée.

He was with him when their mission went to shit. Leone saved his life. When they went back stateside, he'd lost track of Leo. After getting his new leg situated he went back to work. He'd gotten himself a comfy job at Knowlton working on the various aircraft the team used while trying to track down leads of where his friend ended up. Once he found him he made sure to keep him close.

Other:
Pablo is the only person at Home Base to ever successfully pull one hungover Leone out of bed and out for a sunrise jog. He is just a bastard like that.

Success is how high you bounce when you hit the bottom.

Anne Marie Tilling

Name:
Anne Marie Tilling

Nicknames:
Tilly

Age:
34

Gender:
Female

Occupation:
Owner and Bartender at Tilly's Tavern

Appearance:
Anne has long brown hair and cool hazel eyes. She's 5'4", with a lean build. She has a few freckles dusting her nose and cheeks. She also has the full array of ear piercings and an Alice in Wonderland themed tattoo sleeve on her right arm.

Relatives:
Her cousin was a hotshot on the team before he busted his ankle, he failed the physical to rejoin.

Bio:
Anne had a fairly normal childhood, made it through school without incident, and her first and only job was working at her mother's bar. Her father passed from a heart attack a few years ago. Her mom left the business to her when she retired and moved to New Mexico. New Mexico sounds like it would be a blast, but Tilly is determined to stick it out and keep the bar alive.

Other:
She's got dirt on everyone in town, having grown up in the rumor mill. The Fire Team has her interest due to the fact that it's made up of people from all over the US. It's her little glimpse of life outside the small town of Knowlton.

I know something you don't know.

Still seeking players!

Hi! Just wondering: what is the amount of activity expected from each player (post once a week, post within three days of your character being interacted with, etc.)? I just want to know so that I don't delay/accidentally ghost RP, since my schedule is currently beating me over the head.

@allthekingsmen I'm fine with a post every two weeks as long as everyone's communicating and plotting in the OOC.

Got it. Thank you!

Please let me know if I need to/should change anything. I know other people expressed their interest prior to me; I wouldn't want to intrude!

GENERAL INFO

Physical Build

Brown-skinned, brown-eyed, and brown-haired, Amanda seems to be about what you would imagine when you think of a spunky pilot: her expression is always fierce and frequently scrunched into a frustrated frown or scowl, her jaw-length hair textured with the slightest hint of a wave is always messy and fraught with cowlicks, and her voice always projects far louder than what you'd expect from someone her height.

Her skin, eyes, and hair are all different shades of brown, of course: her skin is warm-toned and tawny, prone to tanning more so than burning; her round, upturned eyes are a dark brown, almost black, like espresso; her choppy hair is walnut-colored and a bit bronzy, streaked with a few white stress-strands that she tries to pluck whenever she has time and a mirror. She has a flat nose, defined eyebrows, and full, two-toned lips, with perpetually-dark bags beneath her eyes. There is a beauty mark just beneath the left side of her bottom lip. Her hair tends to fall slightly over her right eye if she doesn't pin it back.

Her physique is ample yet firm, roughly hourglass-shaped; she has a good amount of muscle padded with a healthy portion of fat that makes her a surprisingly-explosive little powerhouse. Her legs and hips are broader and fuller than her upper body, with her thighs being especially bulky. She has very defined arm and leg muscles, while her midriff is softer. She's good at holding strong and keeping steady for long periods of time, as well as making small but fast instinctual movements. She has very powerful hands.

Clothing Style

Utilitarian and protective; dark colors and a great proliferation of pockets. Amanda lives in basic yet comfortable cotton shirts of different sleeve lengths, cargo pants, a sturdy belt, and big, bulky boots. Not much to speak on visually, but all of her clothes are of good quality, since she intends to wear them forever. The only thing that is actually of note in her regular outfits is that she uses a wallet chain, and that she puts an elastic headband on while piloting so her hair doesn't get in her eyes. She has an engagement ring she keeps at home, but it's not hers and she doesn't wear it.

PEOPLE

Sexuality

Bisexual, with a preference for women (but she's not opposed to guys—she just doesn't have a history of dating them)

Crush

She's going through a messy breakup with a long-term partner, but there's still a lingering wisp of love for her despite their current situation… so, I guess her now-ex-fiancée Calliope is a "crush." She's pushing through it.

Family

Sinagtala Panganiban — mother ("nanay"). A very assertive woman. They argue a lot and have very different opinions on things, but are actually very similar temperamentally and are very close.

Virgilio Caballero — father ("tatay"). He's a very quiet man who gives praise sparingly and disapproving looks frequently. They aren't very close, but they do care for each other.

Teresa Jones — older sister by five years ("ate"). A worrywart. She loves to remind her little sister that her biological clock is ticking and she should hurry up and get married soon so she can have kids, maybe settle into a tamer career. Of course, since she isn't a hypocrite, she, herself, is married with a son and is currently three months pregnant. They've always had an antagonistic relationship, but they love each other.

PERSONA

Personality

Rather private and short-tempered, Amanda tries to keep her job and personal life separate. Despite how often she works, she tries not to hang out with coworkers all that much; in her head, all she has to do is make money and make sure no one intentionally leaves her to die if she were to become incapacitated on the job, not share hobbies or send birthday gifts. As a result, she comes off rather curt and even rude at times if certain people approach her too often with "frivolous" topics, prone to snark and sarcasm ramping up to outright hostility depending on the day. All in all: she's not easy to make friends with!

On that note: Amanda's a perfectionist through and through, and loyal as they come—she'll do something a thousand times to get it just right, and if that something is dating someone she's interested in or forging a friendship with a like-minded person, then she'll lock onto them for life. Because of this, she's also very family-oriented and places them above all else. Her competitive spirit flares up when she's with people she likes.

She isn't a warm, welcoming presence by any means, but she does have her soft spots. She's kind to those in crisis; she cares deeply for the environment and animals. She's reliable and a strong, attentive shoulder to cry on, and she can always be trusted to be an honest critic with your best interests in mind—regardless of how much she likes you, she's always capable of a firm respect and politeness on work grounds, so long as you offer the same to her. Amanda is a tough nut to crack, but it's certainly worthwhile to give the effort.

Likes

engineering, sweets, beer, Filipino telenovelas, combat sports (esp. kickboxing and BJJ), competition

Dislikes

messy/disorganized spaces, arrogance, being pestered, pranks/practical jokes, bitter foods, being underestimated or ignored regarding her capabilities as a person

Mannerisms/Quirks

Amanda almost always misses the back belt loop of her pants when she puts a belt on, and if she notices it (especially if someone points it out), she will be irritated and will try to find a secluded place and fix it as soon as possible. In non-emergency situations, she tends to point to things with her lips rather than her fingers, especially if her hands are full.

Skills

excellent memory, flying in bad conditions, fast reflexes, fast at calculations, observation/perception

Detriments

stubbornness, short temper, unsympathetic demeanor, overly-private attitude, overly-serious temperament

BIO

History

Born to a steelworker father and a nurse mother, both new immigrants who wanted nothing more than for her to have a safe, quiet, cushy life, Amanda grew up adamantly wanting the opposite. She never felt content sitting idly—she wanted to explore, travel, and dip her toes into dangerous waters.

A strong athlete with a phenomenal track record with STEM-based classes, Amanda blazed through high school with minimal attachment to her classmates and maximal attention towards her studies. She had her eyes set on a college far from home, one where she could test her limits and get some space between herself and her suffocating family.

College in California was freeing: she had new opportunities, fresh experiences. She got a great internship, went to a few parties… even met the love of her life in her junior year. Her first real relationship.

Calliope Page was an arachnophobic, nearsighted, tone-deaf environmental science major, and Amanda fell in love with her hard. She was the sun, the stars, and everything else celestial; Amanda, usually so left-brained, threw logic and rationality out the window when it came to her.

They stayed together after college, with Calliope heading to Idaho for grad school and Amanda being recruited by the NOAA Corps as a hurricane hunter, flying planes straight into the eyes of tropical storms and charting the seas. While she initially only worked on NOAA aircrafts, her tenacity and ambition to fly the skies eventually put her in the cockpit of a Lockheed WP-3D Orion and sent her into the fray.

That ended up being a time where Calliope and Amanda's relationship started to fray, too. Amanda stayed in Florida for much of the year, traveling to the Caribbean frequently to document storms, and wasn't great at keeping contact with her girlfriend most of the time. They still loved each other, of course, but it was hard.

Eventually, though, Calliope had had enough. She'd had a thousand heart attacks worrying over Amanda's safety; she missed her presence at home, cooking breakfast together, watching movies together. She put forth an ultimatum: her or the job. One had to go.

Amanda chose Calliope. She quit being a hurricane hunter, even though she loved it so much, and sought jobs closer to home. Calliope was happy for a while, even though Amanda was floundering a bit trying to find her place without her job. The happiness, like anything else, ran out soon enough.

Amanda did find a new job—in fact, it was a job that shared some of the same forests as Calliope's, who surveyed ecosystems and environments for a nearby research laboratory. To say that Calliope was not pleased when Amanda announced she'd start training to become an aerial firefighter would be an understatement.

But it was a way to a job, and despite the fact that it wasn't nearly as safe as Calliope wanted, it was significantly closer. Besides, it was for a good cause, and Amanda already had experience with flying in dangerous situations. She was suited for the job.

It was evident that their problems weren't solved, though. After Amanda finished training (which once again took her out of state) and joined the Knowlton team, they continued to quarrel: Amanda was still away from home for far longer than Calliope could stand, and friction built up over little things that exploded at random. There was a brief period of peace when Amanda proposed to her, but it was just that: brief. It wasn't enough.

It's been only two years since Amanda started her new life as a firefighter. Calliope's leaving her, the forests still burn, and, damn, does she not know her coworkers.

OTHER

Theme song/playlist
Most notable song on it is Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive."

Amanda's from Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania.

She graduated from college with a bachelors in aerospace engineering.

Because of her engineering background and love for math, at work, she enjoys talking to the aircraft mechanics at home base the most—they probably know more personal details about her than anyone else.

Besides English, she can speak Tagalog.

She has a very slight Filipino accent to her speech that gets more intense if she's angry/frustrated.

She does not like it when people who aren't close to her call her Mandy.

Physical Build:
Broad shouldered mesomorphic build, bit of a rugby player athletic type.
Clothing Style:
quite often in public DJ is seen in jeans and random t-shirts or plain dark coloured button up shirt with rolled sleeves, kept constantly rolled so much so that the fabric has faded in portions. Wears boots or thongs (flip flops). At home or when relaxing, he will wear boardshorts and singlets, thongs (flip flops) or walk about barefoot. Has been well known to take his shirt off when working and stuff it through the loop of his jean belt.

Daniel Harris- biological father (estranged)
Mandy Harris (nee saunders) – biological mother (estranged)
Amy Saunders -maternal aunt (resides in New South Wales, Australia)
Personality:
Described best as 'a bit rough around the edges', DJ is fairly laid back at least until his patience runs out. He loves a good laugh but does enjoy his own time out and freedom. He cannot sit still at the best of times and is quick to run towards danger and excitement rather than away from it, mostly to his own detriment. He is impulsive and brash (especially with his words which can come off the wrong way), becomes bored easily and can be hard to pull into line. He is intelligent and good at what he puts his mind to as long as he enjoys it. He is well known to create solutions and act quickly in situations which has helped on multiple occasions. He is charismatic and seems to easily attract people including a lengthening list of romantic partners. Do not be fooled, DJ does not do commitment and is fiercely protective of his heart and secrets.

History:
Born in Broome, Western Australia (WA) to Daniel and Mandy Harris, Damon was three when his parents went through an acrimonious divorce. Mandy fled WA with little Damon back to her own childhood town in rural New South Wales (NSW). Told by his mother that his father simply did not want either of them in his life, Damon has never looked for his father and refuses to acknowledge his existence.

Mandy Harris was no saint herself, spending most of her money on cigarettes and meth than food and basics. With quite the reputation, Damon can recall various memories of strange people with his mother, sleeping on the floor with his teddy bear and his seventh birthday when he was picked up off the side of the road from the local policeman and taken to his aunt's house about three hours' drive east. It was this home where he found the love and care of Mandy's sister Amy.

From that point on, Damon was raised by his maternal Aunt and broke contact with his mother. He grew up in a country town near the Kosciuszko mountains, experiencing life on a cattle farm and living in a small rural community where everyone knew if you weren't a local. Though he struggled to learn at school when something didn't take his interest, Damon certainly wasn't stupid.

If there was trouble to be found, it was quite often Damon and a few rascal friends in the middle of the fray. It was not unusual for Damon and his friends to end up exploring caves on the holidays, rock climbing, hiking and camping across the mountain and taking advantage of available farm equipment like motorbikes and atv's to get around. Throughout his early teens into young adulthood, Damon volunteered for the local bushfire volunteer group and regularly attended fires, accidents and other emergency situations as most country volunteers do in rural towns within Australia.

Despite wanting to leave school early, Aunt Amy pushed him to graduate. Whilst working as an apprentice heavy diesel mechanic, Damon dated a local girl named Heidi who he had known from school. Though Heidi was not the most suitable person his aunt wanted Damon to date, it became a little too late when it was revealed that Heidi was pregnant. 18 and suddenly a father to be, Damon was fearful and unsure of whether they were ready to be parents whilst Heidi was smitten. Aunt Amy encouraged the two despite being less than impressed by the news and Damon began to save his wages with the intention of providing for his new family.

Circumstances swiftly changed one evening when the local volunteers were called out to an accident site. Coming across the scene, one car had drifted across the lane and collided with another car which had careened into the ditch. Tragically upon sighting the vehicle, Damon discovered that one of the cars was Heidi's and she was found deceased behind the wheel. Undoubtedly this tragic accident changed the course of DJ's life from here on out, leaving him with trauma, anger and overwhelming grief. This experience was incredibly hard on Damon who struggled with post traumatic stress for some time. He managed to complete his trade certification and continued to work as a volunteer firefighter but his aunt grew concerned at how her nephew had withdrawn into himself.

At the age of twenty, Damon announced to his aunt that he was going to travel, having saved up enough money to start with a trip across Europe on a Contiki tour. Anxious for her nephew, Amy still let him go after conceding that perhaps it was time Damon did something that would take him away from a place that held awful memories. The Contiki trip was six weeks of drinking, travelling and touring key places across Europe with other young people and the start of Damon Harris living out in the world with minimal possessions, wanting to experience the world without being held down. Since that year, Damon has travelled extensively through Europe, portions of Africa, south America and now North America, working and volunteering to get by. At the start of 'They Go In', Damon is currently living in town out of an old chevy express van which has been converted into a camper for full time living. He has purchased a Yamaha mt07 to get about when he has the van parked up. It's his first season with the crew after successfully gaining a spot through recruitment, only having tried out on a drunken bet made in the local bar.

  • Physical Build:
Even for his age, Torry is quite built and still athletic enough to keep up with the younger members. Despite being called 'old man', 'gramps' and other age-highlighting titles, he is still able to run the course, pass his exams, and remain the fastest gear packer on the team. He has broad shoulders and a wide pectoral build, but is a bit slimmer around the middle. He is muscular, but his age is catching up to him and his clothes don't fit as tightly as they used to as his overall body mass is starting to decline.

    Clothing Style:
Torry keeps things simple. He wears gis flannel and blue jeans most days, keeping to simple cotton shirts and work boots. When he does dress up, its mostly polo shirts and khaki pants. He keeps a brown wrist watch on his left wrist, and keeps a dark black hair tie over the ring finger on his right hand. Because of his role. He makes sure his clothing is always clean and somewhat presentable when he isnt in the fields.

    Personality:
Being the elder sibling of two brothers, Torry has a strong sense of protectiveness and authority. He isnt bossy per say, but when things arent done efficiently and quality, he doesnt stay quiet. He has a relatively strong moral compass, and whike he keeps mostly to himself and isnt very loud, he knows ways to make his presence known when it counts. He doesnt have a temper like some, but it gets very obvious if he is upset. He is deeply devoted to his work, having been a field medic for over 10 years of his career. He pays careful attention to detail, as he knows sometimes it can be the difference between life and death. Some see him as the father figure of the group, as he is always keeping close tabs on his team and crew, and is relatively well known throughout the town they are based in.

    Bio:
Torry was born the eldest of two boys on a small ranch property in northern Mississippi. He was always the more protective older brother, but rarely ever got into trouble. He was an athlete growing up, and took an interest in the firefighting profession when he was a Junior in high school after witnessing the destructive nature of a wildfire that burned half of his home property. He went to school to learn medical sciences before becoming a volunteer firefighter in his home town. He married his wife and moved to the present city where they had a daughter together. Sadly, their daughter would pass away after a car accident when she was only 6 years old. He divorced his wife and she moved away in that same year. His brother moved to stay with him so he wouldn't be alone, but Torry rarely contacted any of his other family members since then. He puts his focus into his work and his team, having found them to be more of a family than anyone else.

    Other:
Levi shares his brothers love for animals, but doesnt particularily like the idea of keeping the wild animals in the firehouse. Its not the first time hes opened his locker to find a nest of squirrels snuggled up inside.

  • Physical Build:
Levi has a slimmer build and his shoulders are much more narrow. He is still quite strong, but has more of an agile sort of advantage than a brute strength one. He is taller and leaner, and is quick on his feet. He is more likely to beat you in a foot race than an arm wrestle.

    Clothing Style:
Much like his brother, Levi keeps his clothes simple and durable. He wears simple cotton shirts and thick jackets to combat almost any weather. He wears work boots and dark washed jeans. He's a bit more rough and tumble, so he may have a hole or two here and there, but keeps himself tiny for the most part.

    Personality:
A near opposite of his brother, Levi is much louder and speaks his mind often. He doesn't have a reliable filter, and is more child-like in the mind. He makes crude jokes, plays pranks, and can be a pain in the rear for many. But when it comes time to work, he is steadfast, determined, and fully focused on what he needs to do to keep himself. His crew, and his home safe. As soon as the alarm rings out, he flips the mental switch and goes to work immediately. He is fearless and headstrong, which means he would run straight into danger... but also can lead to trouble, as he doesn't always know his limits.

He excelled at athletics, but was a constant behavioral problem and was nearly expelled twice from school. For a while he rolled with the wrong group of people, but grew very close to his young neice when she was born. Upon hearing that his niece was killed in a tragic accident, he moved to stay with his brother, becoming the shoulder to cry on for a while before joining his brother in working for the fire deoartment.
