Alias (In-Character)

Emilia glanced up as Elijah entered the clearing. She smiled– a genuine smile– and drank the rest of the beer before standing up and placing the empty beer in the trash can. She stretched her arms above her head, unaware that Sydney was on her way to patching through with Naomi. God forbid Emilia got in trouble like that. A part of her wanted to embrace Elijah, the other part told her to stand down. It’d been two years since they’d last seen each other and truth be told, Emilia had ached for his company the entire time. She hadn’t wanted it to seem like she didn’t completely defeat him though, so she stopped trying to search.

“I really hate to do this honestly. I was debating whether or not to tell Sydney to stand down because I thought it wasn’t worth the trouble. She wouldn’t be very nice if that was the case though and I need my job so, yeah. It’s work related,” Emilia stated in a calm, down to earth tone, though her eyes sent a different message. She wanted to rough him up because it’d been hell waiting forever. It wouldn’t be like she was trying to kill him; she just wanted to get his blood pumping and generally, see him eager to see her.

“Reaper–,” God, she hated saying that name to his face. “You’re coming with me.”

Emilia immediately took a step forward and swung her fist at his lower jaw.

Naomi lounged on the arm of the couch, looking remarkably bored for someone who had just pretty well walked through all of whatever traps had been set up below. On the way over, the woman had popped her Regen pill, the bacteria having had plenty of time to work during the drive, her clothing was splattered in blood in places however.

She had declined a beer when it was offered. Blood loss plus alcohol sounded just like a wonderful idea, didn’t it?

Once the pair had made it up to the second floor, Naomi had popped her second pill. Concussive Blasts. She had yet to decide whether she was actually going to try to kill Reaper, or just incapacitate him. It was a complicated conundrum that she was contemplating as they sat waiting for the man to arrive.

Emilia’s reaction to Reaper’s appearance drew Naomi’s attention, however. She made no effort to disguise her raised eyebrow.

They were a thing.

Great.

Naomi stood and walked to one of the warehouse’s second story windows, finding a spot where she could peek out, letting Emilia say her bit to the man.

And outside, she spotted a vehicle. One that had been tailing them; Naomi had noticed it briefly before they’d arrived at the docks but figured she was being paranoid. It wouldn’t have been the first time.

She really needed to listen to that paranoia occasionally.

“Naomi, this is Director Pearl. Just received word that you and Emilia tracked Reaper to the Dock District? Good work. Is he in custody yet?” Her voice was congratulatory, with a hint of impatience.

Naomi paused, eyes drifting to where Emilia and Reaper were.

”...Well. He’s standing in front of us. How necessary is it that he end up in custody instead of dead?” Tactless as usual.

“Well it is preferred that you bring him in alive, but I supposed if he gets the upper hand on either of you, don’t pull your punches. The important thing is to make sure he doesn’t get away.”

”...Emilia has decided not to pull her’s. I’ll see what I can do about not the not-dead bit,” there was a pause, ”Right. Someone tailed us here, by the way. I’ll connect back up after I try to make sure Reaper doesn’t kill Emilia, if I don’t in a reasonable time, assume he got both of us.”

And Naomi cut Pearl off, flexed her fingers, and launched a quick, relatively weak, blast blue, solid kinetic energy at Reaper. It wasn’t meant to really do a whole helluvalot besides act as a little bit of a distraction when it came to the assassin.

”Huh. I forgot these were blue,” Naomi murmured as she properly charged the next couple of shots.

Detective Anderson

As Emmett disappeared down the stairs, he left Vector alone to grumble and finish examining the crime-scene. Crouching down, he pressed a button on the metallic briefcase laying on the ground. All at once his drones stopped what they were doing and hovered over to the briefcase, slowly going into each of their spots, before deactivating.
All but one, the lone drone hovered in front of Vector with flashing red and blue lights. “What happened little guy?” Vector asked the drone aloud. Not expecting a response, he stared at the monitor embedded into his arm and pressed a button labeled #11, that flashed red.

A video loaded up, showing #11 patrolled the crime scene, scanning for anything out of place. It came upon a woman, crouched over a pile of rubble from the building. She pocketed something, though the drone was a tad bit too far away to make out exactly what it was. Pausing the video, and zooming in manually, Vector could make out a scrap of fabric. Whether it was from a shirt or a bed-sheet, Vector couldn’t tell. Un-pausing the video, the drone scanned the woman and started to hover towards her. Zipping up to her, the camera panned over to the police line quickly and looked back at the woman. The police lights started to flash from the drone, quickly followed by an alarm blaring loudly, before the woman disappeared, away from the police line. The alarm shut off, but the red and blue lights remained.
“Detective Anderson!” The familiar, enthusiastic voice of the cadet from earlier said heedfully, drawing Vector away from his monitor. “Some officers heard your drone going off near the back end of the police line. The cadet nodded towards the drone, before finishing. but I’m assuming, sir, that you already knew.” Vector smiled at the kid, and set drone #11 into the case, before closing it up. “You’d be right kid. I’ll have my drone run facial recognition in our database. If anything turns up, I’ll let the higher-ups know.” Lifting the case up, Vector walked towards the stairs, the cadet following behind him.

“Got anything else for me, kid?” Vector called over his shoulder, brushing his hair backwards out of his face. “Yes sir!” The cadet answered. Our bomb-tech traced the origins of the bomb back to an old-arms dealer located here in the city. He has worked as an informant for Peacekeepers in the past, so Sergeant Roswell has a pair of officers en-route to his apartment already.”

“What’s Roswell hoping to learn from this guy.” Vector asked as the two reached the second floor, pausing with the cadet at the top of the final set of stairs. “Well we’re hoping this’ll lead us to any more Shade’s in the city. If this informant does give us information on other Shades, you will be sent to deal with them.” Vector sighed and set his briefcase on the ground. Pulling a hair tie from his pocket, he started to tie his hair up in a bun.
“Why me? Couldn’t they just send some officers to round them up.” The annoyance was easily heard in Vectors voice. The cadet nervously nodded. “Roswell knew you would say that. The officers are spread out thin as it is. He wanted to remind you this is apart of you job. He has your equipment waiting in a tent outside.”
Vector started to head down the stairs, grabbing his briefcase once again with the cadet following close behind.

“What about Emmett? Is he joining me on this tedious task too.” Vector asked, reaching ground level again. “No sir, Detective Everett already left in a car. He talked with the witnesses and headed out already. He has a lead on a man who might’ve survived the blast.” Vector smiled slightly. At least he didn’t have to worry about the older detective to steal his thunder. “Good. Did he seem odd to you? I mean what kinda detective fist bumps people.” Vector asked his younger co-worker who shook his head. “Uh no sir, I didn’t have the pleasure of meeting Mister Everett.”

10: 40

Twenty minutes later, Vector stood in front of a full-sized mirror. He was dressed in urban camouflage, two Auto-Pistols were strapped to either side of his torso. On his belt, his standard-issued pistol sat in its holster. Magnetized to his belt were eight metallic orbs, closely resembling the drones in his suitcase. The only difference, these orbs had an LED red light wrapping around them. Beside these orbs, were two small cylinder grenades, small red wording printed on them reading Web-Snare.
The detective finished rolling his right sleeve to his elbow, allowing him to access his cybernetic monitor in his arm. “Detective Vector, we have information on the whereabouts of a group of Shade members in the Slums district. The informant seemed dead-set on they were linked to the attack.” Without looking away from the mirror, Vector answered, “Sounds good, I’m almost ready.” Pressing a button on his cybernetic arm, a metal plate extended from his body armor and covered his face. Folding around his face, the metal plate peeled back and formed a mask to Vectors face. Making sure it was strapped correctly, with another press of a button the mask retracted back down into the body armor. Putting a baseball cap over his hair, he nodded at himself in the mirror. “Alright cadet, I’m all set. My rifle ready?”
“Already in the car sir.”

Detective Anderson

Vector stood in front of the decrepit factory. The first floor was a large, open space with a few side rooms. An assembly line ran though the majority of the first floor, with a set of winding metal stairs leading up to the second level. For the most part, the first floor was empty.
The second floor was split into four sections. A large office space filled with cubicles. A fridge, ice chest, and table sat in the corner, off setting the office theme. Three smaller rooms made up personal offices, the largest of them overlooking the floor below it. Over all the windows were tarps covering the room in darkness. Spotlights were used as the primary source of light, with the occasional splash of sunlight peeking into the building.

It wasn’t far from the blast site of the bomb, and was right on the line between the Slums and the Dock District. Peacekeepers did their best to close of the area as quickly and quietly as possible so Vector would at least have a chance of approaching stealthily.
Vector headed down an alleyway and quietly scaled an old fire escape. Crouching at a slightly ajar window. The monitor on his arm opened up, and the six of the eight drones on his waist hummed to life. One by one each drone went into the building, at various points spread around the second floor. As each drone reached it's spot, the drones exited their sphere form. Peeling apart into small robotic spiders with only four legs, they attached themselves to various points around the second floor. Once attached, their cloaking system activated, each drone concealing itself.

Four gunmen were patrolling the large office section, though were relaxed. One of these man was listening to music, while the other three were lost in their thoughts. One was sleeping in one of the small offices on a cot, the other cots being empty except for a loose blanket and pillow. Another two were playing cards at one of the cubicles, in the middle of the room, two glasses of liquor setting beside them.
The final room was a larger, singular office. It overlooked the first floor below, and in it were five people. The first of which looked down at the floor below, rifle in hand. Another two stood just outside the door, in a more relaxed position as they chatted away quietly. One sat atop and old filing cabinet while the other was leaned against the wall.

The fourth person seemed to be the leader of the group, a man with a half-mask and spiked green mo-hawk. A green fire danced between his fingers.
Great, a mutant.
Vector thought to himself, before spotting the fifth person. A woman sat tied to a chair. Her hair hung over her face, a lone blue eye shinning out from beneath the strands of hair.
"Fuck."
Vector said aloud. A hostage would make things complicated. He tapped a button on his arm and his face-mask extended up to his face. Switching another button on his arm, he whispered quietly.

"Command, it's Arachnoid. I have surveillance on site. Sending you a live feed now."
"Roger that Detective, what do you see."
A woman answered, one Vector had reported to before.
"We have eleven baddies in total. Out of the eleven, one seems to be an extra-normal. I have six in the main room, four of which are patrolling while the other two are drinking. A seventh is asleep in a side room.
The remaining four are standing guard in the main office, with a hostage."

"Did we hear you right Detective?"
The commanding officer's voice was conflicted.
"Yes sir, a woman by the looks of it. She looks pretty cute too."

"Damn-it Detective, focus. Good work on establishing cams but it's time to pull back. If they have a civilian hostage we need to do this differently."
"Uh, sorry command but it sounds like you're breaking up."
"I swear to god-" click
Vector switched his headset off, and readied his rifle. Time to show what he was made of.

Riley “Jinx” Arondóttir

Riley turned a few pages of her newspaper to maintain the image that she was reading it and yawned heavily. The coffee wasn’t doing its job and the surveillance on detective Anderson was proving to be boring. She watched as the detective crossed the crime scene toward a tent that opened away from the public. The tent would provide the privacy against most individuals that the detective was hoping to gain but as Riley’s gaze followed him, she grinned. A piece of nylon would not shield him from her prying eye.

She watched in mild amusement as the detective strapped all kinds of gadgets to his body. The orbs on his belt interested her but her eyes lit up with fascination when Anderson rolled his sleeve up to expose a cybernetic arm. My, my, detective. It looks as though we have something in common. A mischievous grin replaced her otherwise neutral face as she pondered what the detective’s cybernetics were capable of.

Ever since Riley’s accident she had always been intrigued by cybernetics and even more so following the testing on the Calendar Solar Base. It was common for people with dangerous professions to wear clothing that concealed their cybernetics for the simple fact of maintaining the upperhand in combat; a poker player never reveals their hand. Riley’s cybernetic arm was hidden underneath her sleeve and her hand was masked with a glove. By looking at her on a common day when she was fully dressed, no one would ever suspect the woman was half machine. The only detail that gave away she had any enhancements at all was the white ring around the iris in her left eye.

”Detective Vector, we have information on the whereabouts of a group of Shade members in the Slums district. The informant seemed dead-set on they were linked to the attack.”

An informant? Riley’s grin quickly faded and the corner of her brows turned down into a small, yet serious frown. Her eyes panned over to the young boy with the detective. Surely you’ll know something more about this informant and with inspector gadget covered head to toe… bumping into him for information isn’t an option. The kid will have to do.

Riley neatly folded the newspaper and put it back into the stand. She took a long drink of her coffee and casually walked toward the barrier of tape surrounding the building. The detective was already in his car, suited with a driver and taking off, and the cadet was headed back toward the building. Riley could only guess the kid was an errand boy and was following the most simple of orders. He would be easy to influence.

As Riley approached the border of tape, her eyes began to water and her body posture shrunk into that of a helpless girl. She stumbled toward the apartment building, sobbing pathetically while reaching out to the building as if it was going to reach out and grab her. Two officers standing guard quickly rushed over as Riley plummeted into the otherwise impenetrable wall of tape, barking orders at her to step back. Riley fell to her knees, tears streaming down her face in a river of blackened mascara.
”Katelyn… Katelyn!” her voice carried through the crime scene like a puppy whining for their master. The officers continued to wave their hands at her until a young voice interjected behind them - ”What’s going on over here?”

The cadet pushed through the two officers and looked at Riley on the ground, sobbing into her hands. He gave the two officers a stern look, which sent them to guard another area of the yellow tape. The cadet knelt down in front of Riley and placed two consoling hands on either side of her shoulders. ”Hey now, it’s OK miss. What happened, are you hurt?”

Soggy hands fell from Riley’s face as she pulled her head up to look at the cadet. ”My friend… she lives in this building…”

”Is she…..” Riley’s eyes widened as a look of horror swept across her face. Her bottom lip began to tremble and her eyebrows twisted into an uncomfortable knot. ”Is she dead!?

”Hey now, calm down. Come on, let's get you up.” The Cadet rubbed Riley’s shoulders before standing up. He held out a bare hand to her in offerance. Riley rubbed the ever flowing tears from her face and sniffled as she reached for the cadet’s hand with her own. Her bare hand slid into his…

”Cadet!”
“Yes, Sergeant Roswell sir!”
“When Detective Anderson arrives I need you to tell him about our little friend, the arms dealer down in that shit hole on 4th and 23rd. He has some juicy details for us about potential locations of some Shade members.. We’re pretty thin out here, we’re going to need him to investigate of the guy comes through. Can you handle that, cadet?”
“Yes, sir! Absolutely!”

Riley pulled herself to her feet, completely ignoring the Cadet’s instructions regarding where the injured were shipped off to. He must have noticed because he was calling her miss again and asking if she was alright. Riley released a sigh of relief as she reached for the hair tucked into the collar of her shirt with the back of her hand, pulling it out in one small movement. Her blue eyes locked with the Cadet’s. Her grip tightened around his hand. Her sadistic smile returned. ”Thank you, kid.. You were helpful but there’s one last thing I need you to do…”

Riley leaned toward the side of his face, her cheek grazing his. She reached for his ear, her breath hot on his skin. She could feel the Cadet tremble next to her. ”...I need you to forget all about me.”

As quick as the words escaped Riley’s mouth, the memory of her vanished from the Cadet’s mind.

New Angeles; 4th and 23rd
11:07AM July 29th, 2030.
Riley “Jinx” Arondóttir

4th and 23rd wasn’t far away from the apartment building where the explosion had taken place, but when you were racing against time it was far enough. There was only one place to travel quickly, out of sight, and with as little obstacles as possible; the rooftops. Only those with cybernetic legs and specific superpowers could travel by roof top, which meant that Riley was able to move freely and as quickly as possible. After she had extracted information from the cadet she disappeared into a nearby alleyway where she outfitted herself with her traditional headgear, concealing her face, and scaled the wall of a building until she landed firmly on the roof. Riley wasted no time and sprinted toward her destination, jumping from roof to roof, ensuring to propel herself with her left leg each time and rolling into her landing to continue on in her full sprint.

It wasn’t long before Riley arrived at the corner of 4th and 23rd. From the rooftop she looked through the building; there were six civilians inside. Out of the six four of them matched the approximate height and weight of the average male, the other two were too small to be a man. Riley silently cursed under her breath, she didn’t have long and if she was wrong that the informant was one of the four, it could be troublesome. She approached the roof access, and like all roof accesses, it was locked from the outside. Riley never understood why the only exit from a rooftop locked out anyone who found themselves up there, condemning them to death by starvation. Lucky for her, locked doors were not an obstacle.

Riley placed her left hand against the door, pushing against its steel structure. As she applied more pressure, the door began to cave in against her hand until it broke off of its hinges and landed in the stairwell with a thud. ”Looks like I get to live another day.”

Riley descended the stairs quickly and moved toward her first target. She stopped outside the apartment door, scanning the room before entering and identifying the person inside was a female by her elevated heart rate and estrogen levels. Not this one.

Riley continued, opening her ears to the sounds around her. She quickly dropped another few levels until she came to the second apartment. Riley knocked lightly on the door and watched as the figure casually walked toward it. His heart rate remained steady; he didn’t show any signs of stress which would be common for an informant waiting to leak information. As the door opened Riley quickly stepped toward the man, giving him no time to react to a person standing there. She grabbed the side of his face with her bare hand and searched - nothing. He wasn’t the informant. Riley inserted a quick a memory of a child selling cookies at his door and disappeared.

Her feet were moving quickly down the stairs to the third target and as she got closer, she could hear the voice of a man talking to himself; reassuring himself that it was ‘going to be OK’. Riley slowed to a walk, as she drew closer. Her steps became silent, her movements slow and controlled. She approached the apartment and stood with her back against the wall beside the door. Riley looked through the apartment walls and into the room; there was mechanical debris scattered throughout his house and all the fixings to make a bomb. She locked onto the man inside who was pacing in his living room and read his vitals; elevated heart rate, blood pressure, and adrenaline. She smiled menacingly. Found you.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

The informant stopped dead in his tracks and looked toward the door. His eyes widened, pupils dilated, forehead perspiring. The informant choked back a breath and quickly moved across his apartment to a cabinet in the living room. He opened the cupboard, pulled out a shotgun, and walked cautiously toward the door. The weapon shook in his hand as he aimed it toward the wooden barrier.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

”Who's there!?” He called out, but there was no answer.

The informant moved quickly toward the door, grabbed the handle and flew the door open with his shotgun firmly in place and ready to shoot. The barrel of the shotgun just extended past the door jam. Riley’s cybernetic hand quickly shot out from beside the door, latching onto the barrel of the shotgun and crushing it with a firm grasp. As she stepped into the door she kicked the shotgun back with her hand, hitting the informant in the face with the metallic death chamber. The informant stumbled back, dropping his weapon as he grabbed his nose, which was now bleeding profusely. Riley stepped in after him and watched as the panic grow on his face as he finally looked at her.

”I hear my heartbeat poundin’. Please Lord, don’t let it be..” her voice carried a folk tune as she progressed toward the informant, who was now taking a swing at her. Riley casually stepped to the side and pulled a weapon from her hip. She stepped into the informant and drew the weapon to his neck, though it appeared as though she held nothing in her hand.

”Church bells a-ringin’ soundin’. Please Lord, don’t let it be..” She continued her song as the informant stared at her gloved hand against his neck. He could feel the steel of whatever the weapon was but had no idea how big or exactly what it was.

”What… what do you want from me!? WHO ARE YOU?”

”Times up. The rest is over… They’ve come to capture me!”

”.... Shade. You’re shade, aren’t you!?

Riley pulled off her helmet, revealing a villainous smile. ”Correction. I’m a Shadow and you sold the wrong information, my friend. But don’t you worry… I can’t kill you, that would look too suspicious.”

”If you’re not going to kill me… what in the hell are you going to do?”

Riley brought her free hand to the informant’s face, placing it firmly against his cheek, despite him flinching away from her and continued her melody. ”I see the woman in red. She’s glarin’ right at me.” The informant’s eyes glazed over as Riley’s smile grew. ”Too late now, she’s in my head...”

After a few long minutes Riley had altered all of the informant’s information on Shade, replacing it with details she knew about a Furor hideout bordering the slums and dock district. Finally, she crafted your good ol’ slip and fall story for the bloody nose with an added element of at home handyman work and inserted it into the informant’s memories. ”You’ll serve your purpose now. When the Peacekeepers finalize their intel with you, you’ll lead our dear old detective away from Shade and into those bottom feeders. Remember to get rid of your useless gun and most importantly, as tragic as it is, you won’t remember this pretty face.”

Riley turned on her heel, putting her weapon back on her hip and slipping her helmet back on. As she excited the informant’s apartment, she continued to whistle the tune of the song she had been singing before disappearing back into the stairwell.

New Angeles; The Factory
11:48AM July 29th, 2030.
Riley “Jinx” Arondóttir

The factory was on the edge of the Slums and the Dock district, not far from where the Shade assassin had detonated the bomb after encountering Elijah Brandt. It was an old factory responsible for assembling the navigation systems the boats used, however; the assembly line hadn’t operated in years. The building had two stories; the main level was where production happened and the second level was where the well rounded foreman sat behind his desk, going over plans, eating donuts, and occasionally yelling at his employees to ‘get back to work’. The odd time a group of hoity toity suit wearing men would show up to conduct business, often summarizing by yelling at the poor ol’ foreman. Those days had long since passed and the factory was now a base for Furor.

Riley arrived at the factory and scanned the area. The detective hadn’t arrived yet, which meant she still had time to get inside and set the scene. Keeping an eye on Anderson was beginning to turn into a headache inducing hassle given the sheer amount of time she had to work with. Riley was accustomed to performing under pressure, she even excelled at it, but it was still early.

She spotted exactly eleven Furor members in total, completely spread out in the factory. She would need at least a few of them to think she was a hostage make the scene believable. The six in the main room would be too risky - too many people to get to in whatever time she had left to pull this off. It would have to be the office upstairs, where it looked like the leader was; a mutant. If she could get to him, when he was alone, and have him announce a hostage, she would be golden. His followers wouldn’t question where she came from, the lesser Furor members were mostly stupid and blindly accepted instruction. Riley grinned.

Riley took a position on the roof of the factory as she monitored the activities inside, waiting for an opportune time to act. One of the guards from the door took a leave, headed toward a bathroom. A couple minutes later the second guard left his post to patrol the floor. Big mistake.. Always leave a guard on duty. Idiots.

Riley moved quickly, yet quietly, toward a window on the side of the building that connected to the hallway just outside of the main office. She opened the window softly and slipped inside. Wasting no time, she headed to the office door and knocked, a tactic that always seemed to work. She wondered when the general population would become smart enough not to casually open their front doors. The leader inside grunted, asking ‘what the hell do you goons want’ as he approached the door and opened it. Riley stepped in and grabbed hold of the leader by his jaw.

You found me in the private bathroom on the other side of the office, scared and hiding next to the toilet. You’ll announce it to your goons that you have a hostage situation and request more fire power in this room to control the situation; five men in total.. Including you. Tie me up to a chair. Make it realistic.. But don’t touch me otherwise.

Riley released her hold on the leader, walked to a chair behind a desk and dragged it to the center of the room. She sat down in it and dropped her head in wait. Lets see what you do next, Detective Anderson.

Northwest New Angeles - The Slums
Alexandra walked along the alleyway slowly. She cursed herself for allowing the drone to get so close, her ears still ringing, hands were shoved in her pockets as she looked to the dirty and cracked pavement beneath her feet.

"...an old-arms dealer located here in the city. He has worked as an informant for Peacekeepers..."

The soles of her shoes scuffed against the pavement as she shuffled to a halt. Moving closer to the wall the brunette leaned against it as she tried to listen passed the irritating ringing.

“What’s Roswell hoping to learn from this guy.”

“Well we’re hoping this’ll lead us to any more Shade’s in the city. If this informant does give us information on other Shades, you will be sent to deal with them.”

‘Shades?’ The woman pondered in her mind. So the local Police Force was claiming that this wasn’t Furor related. Why the hell had Barett sent her here then? If the Peacekeepers and Arcadia were aware that this wasn’t Furor then D.E.E.R should’ve also known this. Sighing and clenching her jaw, Alexandra shook her head. They had pointlessly sent her here. Perhaps it was a test to see if she would agree to their terms and take on this mission. Whether this was a dead end or not, hopefully she had at least managed to get some photographs she could use for her actual job.

Approaching the mouth of the alley, the brunette brought her gaze up as she prepared to round the corner. Skidding to a halt with a scuffle she looked to her right and shuffled back into the alley. Pressing her back against the wall she peeked over the side and watched the young detective walk in the opposite direction. Sighing she stepped out and approached her car, her gaze was trained on Vector as she didn’t pay much attention to anyone, or anything around her. Bumping shoulders with a passerby she muttered a sorry as she got into her vehicle.

Rolling down the windows on either side of the car Alexandra listened. Had it not been for the continuous, irritating ringing she wouldn’t have had to open them. Reaching into the center console the woman pulled out a pack of cigarettes, slipping her sunglasses on she lit the smoke between her lips, an attempt to make herself seem more casual where she was parked, watching and waiting.

“Incoming call: Unknown Number.”

The startling voice was followed but a rather dull digital trilling sound. Rejecting the call, hazel eyes remained on the target.

“Detective Vector, we have information on the whereabouts of a group of Shade members in the Slums district. The informant seemed dead-set on they were linked to the attack.”

Taking a deep breath with an exhale of smoke she looked to her left before starting to roll the windows up.

“Katelyn… Katelyn!”

Slowly Alexandra’s gaze moved towards the sound of the crying voice. Raising a brow she frowned slightly. Losing someone to an event like this was always hard. It made the reality of how dangerous the world was even harder to comprehend. It wasn’t her place to say or do anything on the matter, despite how it hurt her to hear someone like that. Keeping innocent people safe was the reason she did what she did with D.E.E.R. But the moment she failed to keep the ones close to her safe was the moment she broke. If Alexandra, with what she was capable of, couldn’t keep the ones that mattered safe, then what was the point? Perhaps not having people close to begin with would have allowed for a different thought process in that time.

But that was the past, it wasn’t part of her life anymore, and well...she had no one close that she needed to worry about keeping safe anymore. Just herself. Hopefully after she gathered this intel, D.E.E.R could handle whatever possible threat Furor was posing. Although by the sounds of it, she wouldn’t be getting close to the chaotic faction anytime soon and she couldn’t really intervene with local law enforcement yet. Should the detective leave any survivors, perhaps she could sweep in and interrogate, if not, she’d have to wait for paperwork to be approved so she could question any of the Shade members to be arrested after this whole ordeal.

New Angeles - Bordering territory between the slums and docks
She had tailed behind a fair distance. Lights off and slow. When she could she took side streets, occasionally forced to stay on the main roads behind the detective. She had made sure to continue straight as they turned onto what seemed like the last stretch. In the distance she could make out a small grouping of cars, details of them weren’t very specific, for all she knew, Alex could’ve lost them by making the decision she had, although the surrounding area was rather desolate and dead, she had a feeling she would be okay. Parking her car along the side of a building that was at the last intersection, she got out.

Staying close to the walls of the various warehouses and abandoned factories she made her way towards the direction that Vector had gone in. She sprinted across the gaps between the buildings until she was next to the factory that the peacekeepers had closed in on. Listening around she picked up two distinct paths, although her sense of smell hinted to a much larger number of individuals. Peeking around one corner she spotted a single officer facing the targeted building. Looking to her left above an old electrical box she caught visual of another peacekeeper just stepping forward. Exhaling heavily through her nose she pushed off the wall and looked up. ‘Two storeys’ She stated internally. Taking a step back she looked to her left before dipping down and launching herself up. Landing on the roof rather sloppily she mentally scoffed at her rustyness before rushing the Peacekeeper on the roof that was turning around to see what had happened.

“So much for undercover and stealth.” Alexandra muttered as her fist slammed across the officers face. Taking hold of the unconscious body before it fell over she laid them down gently as she dropped to the ground as well. She assumed this mission with D.E.E.R wouldn’t be going much further than this. Tying the Peacekeeper’s arms behind their back Alexandra reached for the officer’s rifle and looked through the scope. Marking enemies along the way as she attempted to track the detective.

Clenching her jaw as she focused on steadying her breathing, she simultaneously opened up her senses. Listening to everything around her as the crosshairs of the scope were trained on Vector. The communication between the detective and what Alexandra assumed was a superior was just loud enough for her to gather the crucial information she needed. ‘Eleven targets and a hostage.’ She couldn’t intervene but if she had to she would, assuming this Vector character couldn’t handle himself.

The situation seemed peculiar though. If this was a group of assassins...was this their headquarters? ‘Why are there so many?’ Especially if they were interrogating someone. Assassins more often than not worked either alone or in pairs from her experience. Perhaps the Americans were different when it came to assassinating. Unless this was some form of interrogation that involved several potentially corrupt parties. Regardless, Alexandra held her position as she clenched her jaw, waiting for the scene to unfold. ‘Would support fire be a bad thing? Would that be too much?’ If he needed it?

A Long Day

Jan felt a sense of satisfaction ordering a fresh beef burger with extra tomatoes, mayo, and mustard, along with a large coke, light ice, at Burger One. The ten dollars she’d stolen from the man technically hadn’t been enough for a full meal, but with a little persuasion, Jan got a nice quality meal wrapped neatly and placed inside a paper bag.

“Another feat accomplished,” she murmured to herself as she took a second bite and walked down the sidewalks. New Angeles was not as fun with the lack of chaos. People yelled, cars roared their engines, but there was nothing that stimulated Jan as much as mentally torturing that old man. She needed to find Purifier and see what he had in mind.

She arrived at an electronic store during her fairly long and quiet endeavor. The tv screens replayed a pattern of sports and news events, though nothing entertaining, until a bit of static began to spark in the window. Jan took a last sip of her drink and tossed it out into garbage can nearby. She wiped her hands off on her pants and stared at the screen.

A moment later, a skull appeared and the people inside screamed, flinched, and rushed outside one by one as a strange, but familiar voice arrived over the intercom inside. Jan could hear him just fine with the doors wide open and a snicker escaped her lips. Ah, Hardwire. He always knew how to make an entrance.

Jan waited until the last of the employees, particularly the general manager- as their name tag read- left the door and she immediately grabbed him by the shirt. Her eyes made contact with his and she only spoke one phrase, underlying malice laced in her tone.

“Tell anyone about this and you will breathe your last breath.”

She let the man go and stepped inside. The store key rested in her right hand, one she’d slipped from his belt loop. Jan locked the door and shut the curtains. She flipped the sign on the door to say the store was closed and waltzed over to a desk chair nearby. There was a perfect view of a large flat screen tv in front of the chair; perfect for conversing with Hardwire.

“What a riot. I was beginning to think they were only scared of me.”

Ashley Coleman
10: 55 AM

As Ashley and the convict left the alleyway, she glanced down either side of the street. No sign of the black-van or the Arcadia soldiers. She slipped off her hoodie, feeling the wind brushed against her stomach before her Starbucks shirt settle back over her waist. She put her hoodie over 964’s hands, covering the handcuffs that covered his wrists. “I can get those cuffs off in a jiffy once we get you to a place we can hide out for the rest of the day.” She tried to give Nine a refreshing smile, though she knew it probably came off forced. She was scared, partly from being on the run from Arcadia, but mostly from being afraid of who 964 was. She knew little about that quiet man, and the little she did made her mind race.

She tried to push the thoughts out of her mind. It was too late to go back now. She would make sure to get him to the clinic she had in mind, then leave. Maybe she could work something out with Arcadia. Maybe she could survive on the run. Did that make her a criminal?
No, those Arcadia agents were being too rough with Nine. They were treating him like he was trash. How was I supposed to know they were Arcadia? It’s not like they issued a warning to the city telling everyone that a fucking fugitive was loose in the city.
She started to justify her actions to herself, glancing back at Nine as the two walked down the sidewalk. Ashley stayed a few steps ahead of 964, partly because she was eager to get to the clinic, but also to keep some distance between the two.
Besides, he doesn’t seem like a bad guy. No, that guy with the metal arms was the bad guy. He would’ve snapped my neck easily. Plus Nine saved my life. That last soldier was going to shoot me. It was his life or mine.

She licked her lips nervously, slowing her pace to better match 964’s. He may have a bad rep, but he hadn’t done anything that Ashley that made him seem evil. She finally got a good look. He was tall in stature and yet he walked with a slight haunch to his frame, perhaps due to his injuries.His arms braced his sides as he walked with the hidden cuffs in front of his lower torso. The hood of the jumper he wore settled around his neck, his skin olive in complexion but as she looked to his face she could see it had paled significantly between the grit and dried blood which had worked its way down from the gash above his brow.
”That’ll definitely draw people's.”
She thought allowed. Dark shadows had appeared beneath his honey colored eyes which seemed to simply stare ahead of their directed travel. He wasn’t much of a talker, that was for sure. It seemed the only thing he focused on was staying alive. Well, it wasn’t a bad thing to stay focused on at least. He looked like he was losing steam though, and with those broken ribs and other injuries, he was probably only running on pure adrenaline and survival instincts.

She took his arm lightly and placed it around her shoulder, allowing him to rest some of his weight on her.
“We’re heading to a place called Eidos. Some sorta clinic that doesn’t look like they’d have Arcadia checking in on it. Hopefully we can lay low there for the night.” Ashley said to Nine, her nerves calming some as the two turned down an alleyway. She needed to keep a level head and optimistic outlook. She’d figure this situation out. She’d have to if she was going to be a hero some day.

“Hey, is it just me or did that red-headed girl from earlier seem weird?” Ashley said, trying to make conversation. Giggling slightly “Maybe she was some druggy! She’d have to be saying things like ‘You, as well, Ashley, Nine, Pray we don’t meet again.’ I mean what kinda threat is that!" She laughed a tad bit more, relishing the thought of the strange girl, before her laugh slowly died off the more she thought of it. “Wait. I didn’t tell her my name.”
She could feel the color in her face drain. “How-How did she know. I told her my name was Neon right?” She glanced over at Nine. “Today keeps getting weirder and weirder…” She trailed off, thinking of various ways of how exactly she could know. Maybe she was a mind reader. Maybe she worked with Arcadia and was keeping tabs on her.
Maybe she’s an alien!
Ashley thought to herself, the longer she thought about the girl, the more bizarre the explanation would be.

12:03 PM

The clinic was inside now, tucked away between two larger buildings. The faded sign reading Eidos - Medical Clinic - Cybernetic Repair Services.
Ashley had been here once before, several weeks ago when she was out on the town with fresh cans of spray-paint she had stopped by here, tagging the building with her signature logo.
Her logo was retro, bold letters that read out Neon in various neon colors. It wasn’t the most unique thing in the world, but it was fitting.
Plus, until she worked out a design for her superhero logo, spraying her name around town would do.

Ashley and Nine entered the clinic, and glancing around it didn’t appear to be any sort of normal clinic. Instead it resembled a coffee shop, with wooden chairs and tables and newspaper clippings lined the walls. The lights were dimmed and relaxing, and the aroma of the shop was a soothing coffee smell. It was cozy, and a stark contrast to the busy Starbucks she was employed at.
Maybe I could get a job here. Well, if things work out with Arcadia.
She thought to herself, glancing around to take in the full scope of the shop. She quickly focused on the task at hand. This wasn’t supposed to be a coffee shop, but a clinic. Perhaps it was on a different floor?

“Hello?”
Ashley called out, realizing the room was both empty of customers and employees.
“Maybe they are closed?” She suggested to Nine. “Uh, my friend and I need help. Is this still a clinic? I have money."

Hardwire
10:43 AM
Hardwire had been watching the girl for some time now. He watched from various building security cameras and traffic cams, as January entered the alleyway. He watched in amusement- well as amused as he could be- as the girl started to enter the mind of the man, forcing the homeless man to give her his last ten dollars.
A colorful set of stairs appeared at the back end of the alley-way. A gas-mask wearing girl and injured man appearing over the wall before the neon stairs disappeared into thin-air.
Interesting
His robotic voice murmured out, eager to see if January would be killing these two as well. Alas, she spared them.
After the brief encounter, January turned back to the man. The look on the man's face turned from tranquility, to a look of horror as she used her abilities on the man. The more he struggled, the more force January put into keeping her grip on the man.

It really is a work of art
Hardwire murmured to himself once again. He didn’t enjoy much anymore, but seeing people display their most vivid, real emotions always drew his attention. Blood-boiling rage and curdling fear were his favorites. He didn’t care for the more fabricated emotions, like love or joy. No, those were superficial. An act humans put on to please others. Rage and fear however, in their purest forms were raw and real. There was no faking real rage. It was definite.
January disappeared from the alleyway, leaving the corpse of the homeless man behind. He’d have to cover her tracks, a task he was rather good at after doing it for Purifier for years. The footage of January entering the alleyway was erased entirely.

New Angeles
Hardwire
11:32 AM

He watched silently and impatiently as January made her way through the fast-food joint eating the burger as she walked down the sidewalk. He growled lowly to himself.
It seems Purifier didn’t tell the girl where to find me. I’ll have to interact with her myself.
She was nearing a television store. Perfect.
The TV’s facing the street turned to static at first, drawing in January’s attention, but also the attention of others in the store.

Nosy bastards
His voice echoed from the speakers throughout the store. Everyone drew quietly, as one by one all the TV’s in the store were replaced by static. A skull appeared in the static, Hardwire’s iconic signature, it’s vision looking out from all of the televisions. A few of the employees started looking at the televisions, trying to find the source of the problem.
He allowed a burst of energy to flow into the televisions, one by one they exploded in a flurry of glass of metal fragments. His metallic laugh echoed around the store, as people began running from the store. That was the fear he craved. Husbands leaving behind their wives in an attempt to save their own lives. That was real human emotion.

As the last of the people vacated the store, all of the TV’s were busted but one. January pulled the blinds shut and locked the door. The main source of light was from the lone TV he spared from exploding. A large, flat screen.
“What a riot. I was beginning to think they were only scared of me.”
The girl said, taking a seat in the chair in front of the TV.

My dear January, mundane people are afraid of plenty of things. It’s beings like you and me, that are the source of fear.
His voice echoed in surround sound as he questioned January.

When is Purifier and the others coming to this boring city? There isn’t enough fear to keep me entertained much longer.

“I don’t know. He’ll let us know when the time is right,” Jan responded, swerving around on the chair for a few moments. “What have you been doing? Surely this hasn’t been the only time you’ve frightened innocents. Entertain me. You know I love your stories.”
Sadly, Purifier has insisted on me keeping a low profile. Any indication that Furor may actually attack the city would increase Arcadia and Peacekeeper presence.
The metallic voice of Hardwire stopped, the skull and static on the screen flicked off.

However, a few harmless wiring problems don’t warrant the need for police interaction.
His voice said, echoing around in the darkened room.
The TV flickered back on. Instead of static, a video recording of a carousel played. The camera recorded as normal, as several families started to hop aboard the ride. A brief moment of static, and the outline of Hardwire skull appeared on the monitor. The carousel started up as normal, moving slowly before picking up speed. Sparks began flying from the mechanisms as the ride picked up more and more speed. A few of the parents quickly jumped from the ride with their kids, but one such man in a panic'd. He fell, and struggled to stand up due to the velocity of the ride. His son cried frantically, holding on to one of the carousel horses tightly. The ride reached it's max speed, and as the ride attendants tried to fix the speed of the ride Hardwire sent a burst of energy to the console, frying it and giving one of the workers a nasty shock. Finally the carnival ride reached it's limit, and fried itself completely.

I've been diminished to harmless pranks and gags to keep myself entertained.
He grumbled lowly, the video cutting out and his skull appearing once again over a static screen.

Agent Cutlass

10:43 AM
Aldrin sat up groaning. He rubbed his crotch, it still being sore from the girls sucker-punch. He growled, starring at the wall the two had just went over. 964 escaped again, this time only leaving one body behind.
"uh-sir?"
One of the younger soldiers in his unit said nervously. The kid had gotten a face full of paint.
"What could you possibly have to say kid?"
Aldrin said, rubbing his eyes to try and get the spots of light out of them.
"The prisoner got away again. And he killed Josh."
Sighing, Aldrin slapped the back of the kids head.
"No shit Sherlock. You idiots stared at a can of paint and let some little bitch out do you. Get the Director on the phone kid, we have to expand our search efforts.
Mel, search the data-base for any extra-normal with abilities similar to the girls in the city.
X-Ray, help Tango into the van. Girl gave his ass a nasty scar.
Josh and Parker wait in the van for further orders."

Aldrin shouted commands to his squad, kicking the can of paint the lady used against them into the wall. It clinked softly.
"Sir."
"What now."
The kid motioned to the body of 'Josh', the man 964 had killed before escaping.
"Fucking hell. Parker, put Josh's body into the van. Clean up any evidence of us being here and lets head out.
As the Arcadia team loaded up, Aldrin spotted something laying on the ground next to a dumpster. It was a green back-pack, crumbled up and tossed aside in a rush. Curious, Aldrin picked it up and took a look inside. In it was a wallet, which contained an ID.
Ashley Coleman
Certified extra-normal

Aldrin smirked. Seemed they found Keenan's accomplice.
10:59 AM
Several minutes later, the Arcadia soldiers pulled up to the other side of the alleyway. The wall the criminals escaped over was in view. Not far from it was the corpse of a homeless man. Cutlass knelt over the body, examining it for wounds. A few red marks around his temples were the only visible wounds at first, then he noticed the eyes of the man. Several of the blood-vessels were busted in the mans eye, a small streams of blood dripped from his check and ears.
"Fucking Ford."
The agent said aloud. It was clearly a psychic attack, the man probably died from having fucked with too much. He didn't know the science behind it, but no burn marks were left on the skin. It ruled out the possibility that the girl killed him. Aldrin looked around the alleyway, looking for a clue to where the two may have gone,
"Parker, get this guy in the van too. Kid, you go get the footage from whoever owns this camera. Don't give out any details."
"Why the hell am I on corpse duty? Why don't we just leave this guys body here. We're not a fucking hearse."
Parker said rudely.
"Parker, I swear to god you'll be the third corpse in that van if you don't shut up and do it."

Convict #964

----- July 29th - 10:50am -----
Location: New Angeles - Alley
Interactions - Ashley Coleman, Jan McKennon

The scene in front of himself and Neon was not unusual in a city street unless you took to observing the tiny details in the way the woman and man interacted, the body language, tone of voice, the choice of words. The woman chuckled when he had stepped in front of Neon though he could understand that considering he was cuffed and looked like hell. Still the aim to protect was habitual and given survival was their priority, #964 would fight all the way to the grave if need be.

The woman’s soft red locks framed her porcelain skin, tiny freckles that danced over her cheeks giving her an unassuming presence in contrast to the way she stood over the homeless man. His mind briefly casting over a memory from way back in Nigeria, a conversation between himself and Leven as they navigated a mine field on a hot sticky summer day.

“Soulless blood suckers they are man, they draw you in with that sweet strawberry and then suck the life out of you,” Leven had spit out in reflection of a one night stand with a fiery red haired woman who’d slept her way into his friend’s heart and back out along with his wallet while on leave. The memory sparked something in him, a pang of emotion he was in no way ready to deal with as his brow knitted somewhat. He was brought crashing back to the present as Neon’s hand touched his shoulder, his muscles flinching in response as the sensation sent a ripple of tension through him. There was no malice in the way she had placed it upon him but there was clear evidence in the way his body reacted that there was something beneath the surface, something not quite right with #964. He passed a fleeting glance at her with a cold stare followed by absolute bewilderment as Neon removed her ventilator mask.

Christ she’s just a fucking kid! He realised as she stepped beside him and proceeded to address the woman opposite them. It suddenly made a hell of a lot more sense, the messy attack on the soldiers, the bright colours, lack of decent weaponry and that ridiculous phrase she had announced as Cutlass was having him restrained. All of this from a young woman who had absolutely no place in his affairs and yet had saved his ass from being taken back there.

Her conversation changed in tone, first accusatory towards the woman which on some level humoured him. She was a do-gooder and a part of him wanted to see if she was about to come to the aid of the homeless man as well. Instead she recanted the approach and instead introduced them both.
That’s funny, she had no hesitation back there but she’s so concerned with not butting into this business now, he thought as his eyes fleeted back up to the woman they had confronted. The homeless man behind her on the ground seemed completely vulnerable though his mind questioned just about everything with undertones of mistrust.

Another subtle wave of anger and tension rippled across his form as his chest tightened, Neon’s playful action pulling him closer to a reaction he would react as she punched his shoulder lightly. It was subdued by the focus he held upon the redhead, who so far had met them with as much silence as he had offered. She stood too abruptly, too defensive in her motion to simply be a person in need. She had squared her stance to them as though she were prepared for an interaction and yet she did not meet the offered handshake from Neon. All of this he considered in complete muteness whilst Neon demonstrated the innocence of a young woman who absolutely no awareness.

“I was hungry so I asked him for it” he stared at the woman as she retorted, finding himself more aware of her as she defended her actions with an absurd excuse. Why would someone ask a guy who was clearly not cash heavy for money to get food? It didn’t make an ounce of sense.

Neon began to divulge far too much information in her response and he restrained himself from snatching her up and hauling her down the street. Instead as she reached out and pulled onto his arm he briefly closed his eyes, his jaw clenching as he tried to will away the oncoming anger and pushed the lump of bile back down his throat. God he needed sleep, food, hell he needed anything but to be out in the middle of the street.

“Who were you fighting?” they were asked by the woman, asking for more information out of them than she had given of herself. It wouldn’t be any threat to divulge the facts, after all he was fairly certain his face was due to be or already was plastered on the local news.

“Arcadia,” he answered and wasn’t surprised by the passing comment from her. Hell even he was surprised by how long he had survived Arcadia. And that was the moment the young woman beside him clued into what she had gotten neck deep in. She reacted roughly as he would expect for someone who had just realised they’d helped a fugitive and it only served to remind him of his new place in the world. He was considered the bad guy in New Angeles and Arcadia? Out here they were angels. Angel’s my ass.

The woman’s grin and retort grated on him, she was definitely no one fair and innocent by a long shot. He knew nothing of her or where she was from but it was fairly safe to establish she wasn’t arcadia. He knew that at least because she hadn’t attempted to subdue either of them and instead had been dealing with another agenda altogether. He would remember her face though, he would make a mark of who she was. He was good at that, good at keeping score. Especially since she had just referred to Neon as Ashley.

Neon didn’t seem to bat an eyelid as it slipped past the woman’s lips, and his glare deepened as he considered her familiarity to Neon.
“We need to move.” He broke his silence once more, figuring if they continued this dance he would likely end up in another situation he was frankly too fatigued to handle effectively. The soldiers would be recovering about now and if Cutlass proved to be anything like he had been when he was an inmate, Ford knew the guy wouldn’t be too far away. He gave no noticeable farewell or regard to the woman whilst Neon said goodbye, only taking into account the threatening undertone of the woman’s comment. He hesitated in his movement as Neon stepped away, one last scan over the redhead before he broke his gaze and turned away to head off.

The moment Ashley stopped to search the streets ahead and remove her hoodie, Ford took the opportunity to study her briefly now that distractions were minimal and her mask had been removed. Everything about her screamed innocence and yet here she was doing things that would surely concern her parents to know end. How screwed was the world that a young woman in the middle of New Angeles was getting involved in fights with gun wielding soldiers?

She slid her jumper over his cuffed hands as he watched her facial expression, her eyes soon meeting his with a smile which seemed to be nothing more than a cover while she reevaluated her previous actions. He nodded silently in response to her comment, taking a moment to adjust his hands somewhat so that his arms hugged the sides of his torso. His headache pounded unrelentingly, his stomach churned with nauseousness but it was the burning of his chest everytime he stepped to abruptly or twisted his hips too far which took out the award for prompting the need to stop and let it consume him. Sucking in each breath as they continued he tried to wipe the dimness from his vision, beginning to lose his attentiveness and awareness for what was going on around them. If he had been honest with himself at that point, perhaps he would have admitted that it was easy to just give in.

Neon walked ahead of him with a sense of fear permeating from her form, the way she pushed forward and yet at some interval glanced back. He was sure he looked like shit and he wouldn’t blame her if she suddenly took off or screamed bloody murder. His thoughts were interrupted as his steps grew unsteady, feeling his equilibrium beginning to stray far too much to keep walking at such a pace. He slowed down as his drew in a long breath and squeezed his eyelids shut for a few seconds to try and pull himself together. It hadn’t been the first time he felt like he was in too deep though that was back at a time where he was surrounded by his mates, his unit. He hadn’t noticed Ashley slowing down to his side or her open thoughts until he felt her slip through to let his arm hang from her shoulder. The action lifted his hands up a little with an audible groan escaping his lips. For the first time that morning his body had not responded defensively to the actions, instead welcoming the assistance. As he felt his consciousness start to wane he focused on the menial conversation Neon was making, a small smile growing as he listened to her giggle and talk about the woman they had met a short time ago with an outlook of naivety that reminded him of his little sister.

Exactly where Ford had lost any idea of their location was unknown as the sound of the door shutting prompted him to find a small glimpse of alertness, for the most part having focused solely on his steps and relying more and more upon Ashley as they had travelled across town. The clinic seemed to have been long gone by the look of the entrance, the two of them standing in a coffee shop of all places. It didn’t quite matter to him now as he eyed the nearest chair and table which conveniently sat against a wall. As Ashley called out for attention he managed to slid his arm albeit roughly from Ashley’s shoulder and gingerly stumbled to the chair, giving himself a good calculated aim as he turned on his heel and let himself drop. It was though luck that he didn’t land on the floor, his ass hitting the chair with a thud as he let himself lean back against the chair, cuffed hands drawing against his lap as he closed his eyes.

“Neon...lock the door, ...i’m just going to sit...here now.” he mumbled, his voice ragged with exhaustion.

[Time]10:40 A.M Lepton watched Elijah leave, his eyes a bit dreary. New Angles was a city of conflict, years of watching the mass underground network from the sidelines had taught him this. The small portal that laid upon the counter closed up as traces of the mercenary disappeared into the busy streets, the events of last night and what Elijah told him still circled in Lepton's mind. Who was going to come to him? The Peacekeepers? Detectives? Arcadia? Or even nobody at all? "I don't know why I help you "Reaper". It would be more preferable to focus on the present. Standing up Lepton proceeded to leave the shop, he decided that scouting out the area for government workers would be a first step to finding out who, and if any interrogation would be bestowed upon him. The shop door was left opened, it won't be long until his return, and it was rare for there to be multiple visitors in a day. [Location]New Angles, Alleyway [Time]10:50 A.M The trips were fast, the rooftops was always a good path to take. Of course, not everyone could use it, physical enhancements or superpowers are needed for that type of maneuver. Ripples in space cracked open as Lepton walked out of another constructed portal, casually strolling on the roof tops before opening another one that led to the next building. It was fluent and simple as a walk in the park, no one checks the roof tops of the old town areas, that's why criminals and superhuman fugitives ran free around those places. Lepton didn't know which category he belonged to, perhaps both. It wasn't long before a group of suspicious looking men came into view. Lepton could recognize those anywhere, Arcadia agents. The faces and clothing of the men displayed signs of battle, corpse bags could be seen from afar. Standing on the roof top the teleporter tried to make out the situation, it was quite confusing to be frank. The bits of conversation he had caught seemed too vague to get any actual information, and perhaps the most bizarre thing is how a few of those men was covered in pink paint, similar to the ones kids use to graffiti the old alleyways. It was confusing, a few graffiti artists isn't Arcadia's job, and this was no Mardi Gras. The situation was unusual, and strange, but Lepton still felt a relief that Arcadia agents seem to have their hands full with some other situation, he was less than happy at the thought of associating with them again. [Location]Old-Town New Angles Alleyway, Eidos [Time]12:10 A.M When the owner returned he was somewhat surprised, mildly disturbed, and thoroughly annoyed by the fact that the door was locked from the inside. It wasn't everyday that you get locked out of your own place. The walk outside yielded almost no information other than the pink covered Arcadia agents. The door isn't only locked, but latched up from the inside as well, the windows were draped by mahogany hued curtains as usual, soft yellow light still poured out the edges. It was quite clear that someone was in there, and locked the door for some reason. Most likely it wasn't one of the regulars, someone like Elijah would know better, and a government office would have left a notice, or have an agent outside waiting for him to return. Lepton sighed, he didn't know who was in there and what their intentions would be, the safe bet is just to take a look inside. As an inconspicuous portal opened up in a cobweb filled corner of the room, an eye behind round framed glasses twitched as Lepton saw someone vaguely familiar. It was one of those graffiti artists who hung around the area occasionally, with her was another man. The other seemed asleep, or unconscious. Vector switched a button to on position on his forearm. Six indicators appeared on the monitor, letting Vector know that all his drones were connected. He pressed a button down on his mask and began speaking. His voice echoed from each drone, the speakers in each drone broadcasted his voice throughout the second floor.
“This is Detective Arachnoid. Don’t have a lot of time to talk, so I’ll make this quick. You have five seconds to put down your guns.”
He was met with silence, most of the criminals looking for the speakers, looking at each other, or readying their weapons.
“Uh guys, I meant right now. 5. 4.”

Vector continued the count down, but he still was met without a response. He sighed, it always had to be the hard way.
He flipped the intercom switch to the off position, this time clicking a timer on his forearm and quickly setting it to 3 seconds. He watched as the timer clicked down, as it reached zero each drone light up, firing out three-puck like grenades exploding in a blinding light, blinding anyone foolish enough to not cover their eyes. Lucky for Vector, it seemed like they were all foolish.

Bursting through the window in-sync with his flash-bang drones, he brought his rifle up to his shoulder, firing at the man who had been listening to music moments before. He dropped his gun, and rubbed his eyes frantically. A well placed shot in his temple took him out easily.
One of the men playing cards fired blindly towards Vectors direction, still disoriented from the flashbangs. Vector sent two shots down range, the first shattering the liquor bottle on the table and the second hit the mans throat.

The second man playing cards started to stand up with a pistol, the effects of the flashbangs were starting to diminish somewhat. A bullet flew past Vectors head as he ducked into cover in the nick of time. Grabbing one of the drones on his waist, Vector rolled it down a walkway towards the gunman, rolling slightly before folding out four-robotic spider legs. Scuttling towards the man, who was focused on trying to get a shot at Vector, the drone easily latched onto his leg. Pressing another button, an electric currently quickly went through the drone, shocking the man until he was unconscious.

Vector remained in cover, swiping the monitor on his wrist to pull up the camera feed once more.
There were still four more baddies in the room with Vector, two of which were held up at the far end of the office close to the hostage room. One was two his right, slowly flanking around trying to line up a shot on the detective. The last man was still waking up to his left, huddled behind an old filing cabinet, reloading an assault rifle.

The one to his right inched closer and closer to his spider-camera, Vector clicked on the monitor, gaining control of the drone. A red button appeared in the bottom-left corner of the screen, and Vector quickly pushed it detonating the explosion in the drone. The man's body went flying a few feet, landing on a desk with a thud.

Vector glanced around the corner of his cover, and spotted the filing cabinet the man to his left hid behind. Vector brought his scope to his eye, waiting for the man to peak around the corner. It didn’t take but a few seconds for the man to look over the filing cabinet, and Vector picked him off quickly. Staying low, Vector moved up, taking cover behind the card-table, the body of one of the men laying on it. Grabbing the last drone on his belt, he twisted it counter clockwise. The red-led lights lit up on it, blinking slowly. Tossing it overhead, the explosion detonated, killing the final two men in the room.
~~~
Vector made quick work of the two men guarding the entrance to the small office, who were foolishly ordered by their boss to go check on the men in the main-room. Vector slide behind a desk, sliding the strap of his rifle off of him and setting the rifle against the desk.
Flipping the intercom on his mask back on, he spoke to the mutant and his last henchman.
“Alright green mo-hawk, it’s just me and you. Let the girl go, and I’ll put you in cuffs instead of putting a bullet in you.”
The superhuman laughed, pulling the girl from the ground and holding her in front of him. He glanced at his henchman, before he started to scan the room. “Looks like you’re not too good at math Detective, there is two of us and one of you. If you wanna include girly here, there are three of us. You outta worry about putting a bullet in her to.”
Vector pressed a button on his drone, taking control of it. A small pair of cross-hairs appeared on the monitor, as he lined it up with the chest of the henchman. Pressing a button, two wire cables exploded out from the drone, sending an electric current into the mans chest.
The mutant fired a ball of green fire from his hand, torching the drone, but it already did its job. Now it was just Vector and mo-hawk.
“No more hiding Detective, unless you want girly here to get alittle crispy.”
The mutant ordered, his hand catching aflame. Frowning Vector obliged.
Vector walked into the small office, his hands raised showing he was disarmed. He ignored the mo-hawked man, and instead focused on the woman. “You alright Miss? Don’t worry, I’ll get you outta here.”
Riley “Jinx” Arondóttir
The sound of explosions came from the level below. They rumbled through the room and alerted the leader to the intruder who barked at two of his men to go and investigate the situation. The two men hurriedly left to their inevitable death. Riley’s ears were open and she could hear the detective on the floor below. When she looked through the floor beneath her feet all she could see was a room full of blinding light. It wouldn’t be long before he made his way to her. It’s showtime, boy’s… let's make this believable.
”Looks like you have company, greenie. What are you going to do about it, hiding in this room with a hostage? Pussy.” The words fell off of Riley’s tongue like venom. She looked at the leader in the room with a cruel smile as he turned to face her; his face was plastered with rage. He quickly walked toward her in an intimidating posture and grabbed a fistful of Riley’s hair, yanking it backward to force her to look up at him.
”What did you say, girl?”
”I said… you’re a pussy. Hiding in here with a hostage while you let your goons to take care of the problem. You’re going to die in here.. Pussy.” Riley spat her insult at the man, relishing in his ever growing anger.
THWAP
A hard hand struck Riley across the face, leaving a painful red mark behind. The leader threw her to the ground by her hair and stood over top of her, ready to kick her in the gut. ”I would watch your mouth, missy. Or you’ll make friends with my boot here.”
Riley looked up at the man, a sly grin on her face. She simply nodded in acknowledgement and waited. The sound of the onslaught continued on the level below, weapons were being fired, explosives were going off, men were shrieking in pain as they died one after another. It wasn’t long before Anderson was on the second level. The two men standing guard at the door didn’t stand a chance and then his voice came through an intercom in the room - “Alright green mo-hawk, it’s just me and you. Let the girl go, and I’ll put you in cuffs instead of putting a bullet in you.”
She didn’t have time to snicker at the pet name for the leader as he wasted no time grabbing her from the floor and pulling her in front of him for protection. Riley struggled against him with the least amount of force possible, she wanted it to look real enough but not overpower the idiot. She made comments toward green mo-hawk to let her go before he shot green fire from his hand and threatened to crisp her. ...I hate this part of my job..
The door carefully swung open and the detective walked in. He was in full combat gear and something about a knight in shining armor coming to her rescue intrigued her. Anderson ignored the leader and focused on making sure that she was alright. Riley mustered up a few tears and twisted her face into one of fear.
”Please…. Help me..”
He gave the girl a comforting nod, and turned his gaze to the leader. He was uglier up close. Half his face was covered in a surgical mask, while the top half of his face was scarred in several places. On either side of his head, his head was shaved down leaving a long, spiky green mohawk up top. His left ear was pierced in several places, while the bottom half of his right ear was gone completely. Vector whistled beneath his mask and took a step forward, showing that both of his hands were empty.
“See, no gun. Now put the fire out and let us settle this like men. No girl, no guns, and no powers.” Vector suggested, taking another step before the mutant growled. “Not another step, I’m not an idiot, I see your fucking pistols.” The flame in his hand grew bigger and brighter, the green fire illuminating the room. Slowly, Vector took the sidearms out of his chest holsters, and sat them on the ground. He kicked each one away, with a smart-aleck “Happy?” The fire diminished some as the mutant looked towards both auto-pistols, a smug smirk on his face. “Doesn’t look like you’re that smart after all jackass.” Pushing the girl to the ground, the mohawked man extended both hands, fire erupting from his open palms towards Vector. Rolling out of the way, his hat fell to the ground and caught aflame. He pressed a switch on his forearm and extended a hand towards his auto-pistol. The gun shook on the ground before being pulled into Vectors robotic hand. Vector felt his the magnetism in his arm and gun connect, as he brought the pistol up to an aim.
Firing on the mutant, the first bullet caught the man in the ribs.
The second struck him higher up in the chest, right by his heart.
The third, and final, bullet hit the man in the throat.
He held his neck as blood gushed out, the spark in his eyes quickly dying out with him. He slumped to the ground, going silent with one last gurgle. Vector fell on his ass, his arms resting on his knees as he caught his breath. His hair hung in front of his mask and he brushed it. “That was my favorite hat.” He muttered, glancing at the burning baseball cap. Standing up, he pressed a button on his mask, making it quickly retract back down revealing his face. He gave the girl a smile, and gently started to untie the rope from her wrists. Letting the rope fall to the ground, he offered her his hand and helped her stand. He pulled the chair up for her, so she could sit down. “You alright ma’am? They hurt you at all?”
Riley “Jinx” Arondóttir
Riley returned the detective’s comforting nod, letting the tears flow from her eyes with ease. She had always been a talented actor, a necessary trait for her profession. Riley was used to wearing many hats or faces, from deranged psychopath to blubbering widow. The helpless hostage was one of her least favourites, she didn’t enjoy being vulnerable, especially when the man holding her hostage was nothing but a low life scum who couldn’t see when he was about to die. Riley would have to trust that detective Anderson could handle green mohawk and judging by what he had accomplished so far, he was.
Anderson moved toward them as he had words with the leader. The detective obliged to the leader’s demands to drop his weapons and Riley was suddenly thrown to the floor. She hit the cold linoleum with a thump and a sound of pain, unable to brace her fall with her hands still securely tied behind her back. Falling to the ground like a beaten dog, this was the reason she hated playing the helpless hostage. Riley glared up at the green mohawked leader from the ground. Oh, how she wanted to skin the disgusting man and leave his bare-boned body to hang from the rafters.
The pistols thrown to the ground returned to Anderson’s cybernetic hand. She wondered how he had managed to do that, impressed by the detective she attempted to scurry away with the inevitable showdown of pistols vs fire. The first shot fired, echoing through the building. Riley’s well tuned ears heard the man’s ribs crack and break against the bullet. The sound of his innards being punctured brought a cynical smile to her face that she hid by turning her head to the floor. The second shot was a near miss from his heart and the third and final shot, to his throat; slicing through his jugular and spraying blood. The leader grabbed onto his neck, desperate to close the wound, but it wouldn’t matter… he would be dead in seconds.
The green mohawk man fell to the floor, his body hitting the ground lick a sack of flour. His blood began to pool around him and Riley could hear him drowning in his own fluids. One last smile before she composed herself back into the helpless hostage and rolled to her side to look at detective Anderson. She watched as he fell to the ground, the rush of adrenaline catching up to him. Riley forgot how most people were affected by the thrill of a fight. For her, she found pleasure in it. The detective pressed a button on his mask, revealing her handsome knight and shining armour. When he walked toward her and smiled, she felt a different kind of thrill that only heightened when he stooped down next to her to untie her, his sweet aroma filling her nose. She fought the urge to bite her light. This is going to be a lot more fun than I had ever hoped for..
Riley accepted detective Anderson’s hand in helping her up. She sat in the chair he pulled up for her and took a few quick breaths in an attempt to portray anxiety. After a couple seconds she steadied her breath and looked at the detective. He was devilishly handsome; green striking eyes and long brown curly locks. Young too. “You alright ma’am? They hurt you at all?”
”I.. I think I’m OK. He just… he just hit me the one time.” Riley’s voice was shaky at first but began to steady as she talked. ”Thank you so much, I don’t know how to repay you. My name is Riley.”
He chuckled some, brushing his hand through his hair. “Riley huh? Pretty name.” He reached a hand into his jacket, pulling a loose cigarette from an inner pocket and setting it in his mouth. He raised his left hand, his cybernetic finger popping open, a small flame ejecting from it like a little lighter. He lit the cigarette, and inhaled the smoke deeply. “You don’t mind if I smoke, do you?” He asked the girl, holding the cigarette in between his fingers. “No need to repay me either, just enjoy playing hero every now and then.”
He laughed playfully, tapping the smoke on his wrist, letting the ash fall to the ground. He looked over at the girl, quickly observing her. She looked like a normal civilian, most likely just randomly picked up off the street. She wore one glove over her left hand. It was either a curious choice in fashion, or she lost the other one. She’s pretty. He thought to himself, looking from her delicate lips and cute nose, only pausing when he noticed her eye. He took another drag, a look of excitement growing on his face as he saw the cybernetic glow that outlined her pupil. He scooted closer to the girl, leaning in to get a better look at it. “Fucking sweet!” He said in excitement, before laughing awkwardly. He rubbed the back of his head saying “Sorry, I tend to get excited when it comes to robotics and cybernetics.” He showed off his metallic hands, extending one realizing he forgot to introduce himself. “Detective Vector Anderson, feel free to call me Vector though.”
Riley “Jinx” Arondóttir
Riley examined the detective as he pulled the cigarette from his pocket, lighting it with his cybernetic finger. She smiled at him in response to his compliment and nodded gently in confirmation of him smoking. His playful laugh brought a genuine smile to her face, he was an innocent young man not afraid to laugh in such a wretched situation.
She watched curiously as his eyes traced her body until they fell on her gloved hand. Riley was used to men fantasizing about her, eager to have their hands wrapped around her body but Anderson was also a detective. He would remember the smallest of details… Riley’s blue eyes fell on his as he looked observantly at hers and scooted closer to her, leaning in dangerously close to her face. A warm flush touched her cheeks as she flinched just ever so slightly but what came out of the detective’s mouth surprised her.
“Fucking sweet!.” he said with excitement. Confessing his love for robotics and cybernetics as he showed her his metallic hands and extended one in an introduction of himself. “Detective Vector Anderson, feel free to call me Vector though.”
Riley turned her head slightly away from the detective in a shy yet submissive manner. She had just been held hostage and needed to remain in character of that of a scared victim. She looked up at the detective and extended her glove free hand to shake the cold steel of his. ”Heh, thank you.. It’s almost impossible to hide a glowing ring around your eye. I am so glad to meet you detective, without you I’m sure that man… he would have..” Riley’s voice trailed off as she pulled her eye contact away from Anderson, as if she was realizing just what could have happened to her. Her gaze wandered over to the dead body upon a carpet of blood and she shrunk into herself in a small shiver.
”Can we.. leave, please?”
New Angeles
Detective Anderson
Vector failed to realize that this girl was a civilian, and wasn’t used to seeing dead bodies. “Yeah, yeah ofcourse!” He proclaimed, taking her gloved hand and escorting her out of the room. He rested his cigarette in his mouth, opening the door for her.
The outside room didn’t fare any better, a corpse of one of the guards was slumped over a knocked over file cabinet, while the other was laid face-down in a pool of his own blood. The detective wrapped an arm around Riley, pulling her closer to him so he could cover her eyes. “You uh, shouldn’t see this.”
He brought her to a side room, one that the Shade members had used as a bunkhouse. He pulled two chairs together and offered one to her, as he took a seat in the other. “I know you probably don’t feel like answering questions right now, but I gotta ask’em or my boss will fire me. I’ll make it quick and painless.” He offered his cigarette to her, extending it in between two fingers. “First off, how the hell did you end up here? Do you feel like you were targeted, or was it random?”
Riley “Jinx” Arondóttir
Riley followed the detective out of the room, he was a true gentleman; leading her by hand, opening doors for her. As they entered the next room there was even more death, a murderous scene splayed out in the room. The detective pulled her closer into him, his arm nestled around her shoulder. She leaned into it, taking safety in it. The man’s touch felt… nice.
Riley averted her eyes as Anderson lead her to another room. There were bunk beds lining the walls and desks opposite to them. Vector wasted no time pulling two chairs to the center of the room. She sat promptly, situated herself, and looked at Anderson who was sitting directly across from her but close enough that the tops of her knees continued to knock against his.
“How the hell did you end up here? Do you feel like you were targeted, or was it a random?” The detective didn’t waste any time, he began to question her immediately while offering his cigarette to her as a comfort.
Reaching for the cigarette she rested it between her fingers for a moment before drawing it to her lips and taking a long, satisfying drag. She held it out to the detective again before beginning her responses. ”Random, I think. I haven’t seen that guy before today.. I was just walking home.. And.. and next thing I know I woke up in that room tied to a chair.. He must’ve come from behind me. I didn’t see it.. I didn’t hear it… oh god I’m pathetic.” Riley’s voice shook nearing the end of her sentence.
New Angeles
Detective Anderson
He took the cigarette from her, taking a puff of it himself. Resting it in his off-hand, he placed a comforting hand on her back. “Hey now, you couldn’t have done anything to stop these guys. Believe it or not, they’re professionals.” He gave her knee a friendly squeeze.
“And you’re not pathetic either Riley. You’re handling this like a champ.” He took another quick drag of the smoke, and offered it again to the girl. He thoughtlessly left his hand on her knee as he watched her body language.
This girl was obviously shaken up. She was practically shaking in her seat, her eyes showing signs of crying. The red mark on her face from where the mutant hit her was starting to fade some. It didn’t look like it would leave a bruise, but it would still be sore. Who knows why those thugs needed a sweet, innocent girl like her. He thought to himself.
“Did you hear anything that sounded important while you were here? Plans? Other groups? Anything could help us track these guys down.”
Riley “Jinx” Arondóttir
A quaint smile appeared on Riley’s face as the detective offered a comforting hand and words of assurance. She laughed silently to herself as he called them professionals. These men weren’t professionals, sure they worked for Furor but they were nothing but the dirt dwelling disposable morons that followed Purifier aimlessly. If only dear old detective knew he was squeezing the knee of a real professional.
Riley nodded in acknowledgement of Anderson’s uplifting affirmation of her not being a pathetic woman incapable of taking care of herself and accepted the extended cigarette. She took a quick note of the hand he left behind on her knee as she drew the smoke into her lungs and let it escape her lips in a puff that danced away between them. Anderson was digging for leads on just how to track down the imbeciles who turn a massive factory into a base. This was her chance to throw him even further off of Shade… Poor dear old detective, you’re playing into my game easily.. You would be fun to keep around. I do wonder…
”Um.. One of the men at the door asked that green mohawked man about someone named Purifier... The mohawk guy wasn’t too impressed, he basically yelled at the guard and told him to be patient.. That this Purifier would send instruction when it was time.” Riley offered the lead, just enough information to spark the detective to think that this wasn’t Shade at all and in fact was Furor but not enough to think that what she was saying wasn’t true. Surely it would be enough to intrigue him into investigating further. ”I can’t remember much more than that.. It’s all a bit fuzzy still. I’m sorry.”
New Angeles
Detective Anderson
“Purifier?” Vector uttered, his expression quickly growing surprised. This was supposed to be Shade, not Furor. “No, no you did great. That was a big help, thank you.” He said, giving the girl a smile, standing up. “Just stay here and rest up Riley, give me a holler if you need me. Gotta go call the higher ups.” He said, walking backwards towards the door and out of the door frame. As he turned forward, he took a look around the office space.
A faint smell of blood, overpowered by smoke filled the room after the battle that took place. Vector sighed, things just got a lot more complicated if Purifier was linked to this. Best case scenario, Furor was the ones behind the bombing and the informant had just been misinformed. Worst case, Shade and Furor were working together. Vector had to give the higher ups a call now, he’d left them out of the dark for too long, and no doubt they already had a team prepped to storm the building.
He took a set in a rolling chair and flipped open his monitor. He pressed a button, which quickly connected him to his supervisor. “Miss me Cora?” The detectives voice was mischievous and taunting as he spoke to his overseer. “Damn it Anderson, don’t you dare cut me off from your feed again. And it’s Misses Cora, investigator. Now tell me you have good news.”
Vector sighed, kicking his feet up on broken office desk. “Yes ma’am, good news and bad news. Good news is, all hostiles taken care of and Ril- the hostage is safe.” He swiped through several screens on his monitor, finally reaching one that controlled his drones. He pressed a button, and his remaining drones quickly made their way to him. “And the bad news?” Cora said, an impatient tone in her voice.
“I was talking with the hostage. Seems Furor may have been the cause of the bombing, or atleast linked to it. She overheard one of the goons talking to mohawk, talking about Purifier and some new orders.” Vector replied, deactivating his drones and setting them on the table one by one. “Mohawk?” Cora said, a hint of amusement in her voice. “Err, the superhuman leading the group. Had a green mohawk, so.” Vector answered plainly, tossing a drone in the air, before catching it again like it was a ball. “Understood. A team is entering the factory now to clean up your mess and make sure the hostage is alright. Did you happen to leave any alive?”
Vector paused, unsure if he had remembered too. He stood, and glanced around the office. He counted the bodies. “Fuck. I’m missing one.” He remembered the man that was knocked unconscious from his drone.
The drone was in pieces on the ground, probably torn free once the man woke up. Vector would have to adjust the nonlethal power of his drones to ensure they would keep people unconscious until he had time to put them in cuffs. “Misses Cora, looks like one of them may have gotten away.” He glanced into the room Riley sat it, giving her a smile and small wave. He turned towards the main stairs as the Peacekeeper team made their way into the office. “Looks like the team is here ma’am, I’ll give you an update in a bit.”
Vector quickly wrapped up the questions and gave orders to the team, and made his way back to Riley. He knocked on the door frame, “Still doing good?” He walked into the room, taking a seat in the chair beside her once again. “I have to go fill out some paperwork, but the higher ups wanted to have a medical examiner look at you real quick before we can let you go.” He paused, his hand slipping out a small paper card. He held the card out to Riley, giving her a smile and wink. “Here’s my card. Feel free to give me a call if you happen to remember any other details. Or if you ever wanna grab a cup of coffee sometime. Either one works.”
Riley “Jinx” Arondóttir
Riley watched in satisfaction at the detective’s surprised expression at the news that Furor was behind the bombing scandal rather than Shade. The detective wasted no time thanking her and getting up from his seat, declaring he had to check in with his superiors. Riley simply nodded affirmation of Anderson’s leave and grinned once the detective was out of sight. He was intrigued enough he had to run out of the room to report the new findings; it was done, the bombing was now linked to Furor.
Riley took the opportunity to gauge her surroundings while the detective was out of the room making his phone calls but made a point to keep her ear on his conversation. She snickered at how the detective addressed his superior, a woman named Cora. He was playful in his reporting, either the sign of a detective with capabilities excellent enough to get him away with that sort of behavior, or the sign of a detective who really didn’t give a shit. Judging from what she knew about her dear old detective already, Riley put her money on the first theory.
As she listened to the detective tell this Cora woman about Furor being being the bombing, a thought crossed the mind whether or not a detective of his caliber was bored in his line of work. At his age he surely was mocked and tested every step of the way in his career; no man in their right mind would look at Anderson and think he was capable of single handedly taking on high risk cases. She wondered…. Did her dear old detective hold any signs of resentment for the people he worked for her. A wicked grin came across her face….
“Fuck. I’m missing one.” Riley’s ears perked up, her grin disappearing. A survivor? Someone to follow up with later I suppose...
She noticed Anderson smiling and waving at her from the other room. Riley flashed him a simple sheepish smile and looked away. Man, did she ever hate playing the hopeless hostage… Shortly after the team Cora had mentioned arrived, briefed with the detective, and scoured the factory. A couple low knocks on the door frame commanded Riley to look up at the detective, asking if she was still alright. Another small smile. Another moment she hated playing the hopeless hostage. In a matter of fact tone the detective explained his next steps and the most annoying part, a medical examination. Like hell she would participate in that, but dear old detective didn’t need to know that.
Riley produced a more genuine smile as the detective winked at her while handing her his card and offering his ear for questions or coffee sometime. She stood up from her chair to retrieve the card, a respect she surely would pay after the man had come to her rescue.
”Thank you, detective. I really can’t thank you enough. I’ll be sure to call you if I remember anything else or… if I get thirsty. Riley allowed the last of her words to fall of her tongue with a slight inclination of playful flirting. She reached out to shake the man’s hand before watching him leave.
We’ll see each other again soon, my dear old detective.
Elijah Brandt
11:04 AM
It had felt like ages since Elijah had last seen Emilia, the two being forced apart due to their conflicting career choices. Elijah was lost in thought, conflicting emotions passing through his head. He had fought Emilia once before, back when they last saw each other, but now it was different. His feelings for the Arcadia agent hadn’t changed in the past two years, and Elijah often thought of Emilia. Did she still feel the same way about him though?
Her smile was reminiscent of the smile she had the night they met. It was still a pleasant sight, just like he remembered. Her eyes were another story. She held a irritated gaze, with a hint of passion. Even with the stern look she had, Elijah was drawn to her. He was so mesmerized in-fact, he failed to see her cock-back her hand and send a right hook into his jaw.
He took a step back, a bit off balance after the sucker-punch. He rubbed his face, but couldn’t help letting out a small chuckle. “Definitely not the kiss hello I was expecting.” He said, dropping his pistol to block a second blow Emilia sent his way. She laughed, her left foot aiming just below the top half of his leg. Elijah caught her leg and pulled her in close, grabbing her wrist. He pivoted quickly, tossing her over his shoulders, using the strength in his legs and back to throw her back onto the couch sideways.
“Elijah!”
He slipped his coat off and tossed it over the ammo-case before stretching out his arms. He’d forgotten about the white-haired woman who looked out the window across the room. He’d deal with her later. Emilia popped back up and dove straight into Elijah, intent on knocking him down.
Elijah went to side-step her, but was a second too late and came falling down beneath her. He landed on his back, a breath of air leaving his lungs as he fell onto the ground. He groaned, coughing some before laughing. “Feisty as ever huh, Miss Law Enforcement.” He teased, bear-hugging her and pulling her close to his body. Emilia grinned and buried her face in his neck as she hugged him back. He rolled with her, positioning himself above her.
“I knew you would be able to take that,” she laughed, fingers brushing along his jawline. “Probably a little sore, but that’ll heal up rather quickly.”
The mercenary smiled in response, rubbing his chin gently. “I dunno, you pack quite a punch.” Behind him, he heard the voice of Emilia's partner talking to someone on her headset. He remembered this wasn’t a friendly date, and Emilia was sent here to arrest him. She looked mesmerized, perhaps distracted from the main reason why she came to his abode. He sweetly took her hands, holding them gently as he ran his thumb across her fingers. “Sorry about this sweetie.” He grabbed ahold of her wrists, tightening his grip as he turned suddenly, tossing the agent once again back towards the couch. Emilia was caught off guard as she felt the soft fabric hit her back again. Elijah stood up, opening his mouth to speak before a blue concussion blast knocked him in the chest. It didn’t do much, but definitely got his attention.
Emilia jumped off the couch and onto Elijah’s back when she got the chance.
“Sorry sweetie,” she murmured, taking out her glock on the side of her pants and holding it to his head. Her fingers wrapped around his throat and applied light pressure to his arteries. “Surrender or Naomi will make you.”
Elijah sighed, unmoving as Emilia jumped onto his back. He felt the cold metal barrel of the pistol pressed against his temple. “I might’ve came nicely if you would’ve asked...” He said sarcastically, before continuing. “...but I suppose I can entertain you two for a bit.” He gripped the pistol against his head, peeling it away from his head slowly. He wasn’t positive Emilia would actually pull the trigger, but he felt pretty good about his odds. “Do I needa’ toss you again, or will you get off my back?”
“I won’t get off. Surrender.”
“Fine,” Elijah grumbled, grasping her hand firmly and peeling it away. “Put me in cuffs.”
Emilia’s hand went to his shoulder and her right hand with the gun had already gone back to pointing at him. “Good boy,” she cooed, getting off of his back slowly, yet cautiously, in case he decided to try anything stupid. “I’m sorry it had to come to this, Elijah. I thought you would’ve known by now that if you simply cooperated, things would be less painful. Isn’t that what you taught me?”
Her boots hit the floor, one by one, and her hand, still on his shoulder slid down his arm to bring it to his back. She stuck her gun in her holster and grabbed his other arm
“I thought you enjoyed being in cuffs. Or maybe it was just me afterall.”
Elijah’s shoulders relaxed some as Emilia climbed off his back. He smirked at her response, uttering “No it’s fine, you’re just doing your job.” He balled his hand into a semi-fist, popping his knuckles. “I’m glad my lesson stuck with you.”
Elijah took a step forward, kicking the couch towards the other agent. He turned his body to grasp Emilia’s forearm firmly. He pulled down hard to knock her off balance. He slipped his arm around her throat and pulled her close. He was careful to not hurt her, but it was firm enough to show Naomi that he could. “I also taught you I like to be in control of things, didn’t I?”
Emilia laughed a little. He looked up to Naomi, taking a step back towards the door. “How good of an aim are you with those concussion blasts? Wouldn’t want to hurt Emilia here, would you?”
Ashley Coleman
12:04
Oh god
Ashley thought to herself as she locked the door.
Oh god is he gonna die? They'll find me with the body and think I did it!
She double checked the blinds, closing them even further, making sure to snuff out any source of light.
Oh come on Ashley, don't be selfish. This is his life you should be worried about, not your own.
She hadn’t realize Nine was in this bad of shape, his skin was pale and flush and he slumped back in the chair, his eyes closed. His breathing was raspy and hoarse.
But at least he is breathing. Lets keep it that way.
“Stay awake Nine, we gotta get you some help before you can nap.” Ashley uttered to the man, unsure if the man was even conscious at this point. She knelt beside him and lifted his hands, observing the absorber cuffs closely. Two thick metal clamps were tightened around either of his wrists, LED lights lighting up on either side of them. A thinner metal chain kept them fastened together, but it was still thicker than standard police officer cuffs.
She hadn’t ever been in cuffs, and was always lucky enough to stay one step ahead of Peacekeepers in the city. She knew they limited the powers of extranormals greatly once cuffed on them, but she didn’t know if powers could be used on them.
She balled her hands into a fist, psyching herself to help her focus. She’d get the cuffs off and the doctor, or whoever ran this clinic, would keep Nine alive. “Everything will work out.” She mumbled to herself, taking a deep breath to focus. She lifted a single finger, pink sparks popping at the fingertip. The sparks grew into a steady stream of bright pink light, resembling what looked like the flame of a neon-spewing blowtorch.
The light grew brighter as she concentrated on the flame, to the point the neon pink looked white in some places. Slowly she brought the stream of energy down against the metal of the cuffs, melting the links that kept his hands cuffed together.
A satisfying pop sounded as the cuff was burnt into halves, Nine’s hand slumping back into his lap. The LED lights flickered off, the wiring in the links of the cuffs cutting the power to them that kept them running. A satisfying grin and giggle escaped Ashley’s mouth as she relaxed some. “I did it Nine! You’re cuffs are off.” Her small victory was short lived, as a voice suddenly spoke up behind her.
“Now, care to explain?”
Ashley jumped at the sudden voice. At first she thought Nine had regain consciousness, but she could feel the presences of someone else in the room. Turning, her smile quickly disappeared from her face.
“Miss, I’m afraid locking the shopkeeper out guarantees bad customer service.”
Ashley licked her lips nervously. She could feel her face blush and grow hot. She felt like a kid who was caught sneaking a cookie from a jar before dinner, but she knew this situation was muchmore serious.
“Hi! Yeah sorry about that, we’re sorta in a sticky situation.” She spouted, before motioning to Nine. “My friend and I really need some help, and I saw this place was a clinic so I was hoping there would be a doctor here!” She started to explain. “I have money, and I really didn’t mean to lock you out, but some other people that might know we are here.”
She paused for a moment, her hands clasping together. She was trying to keep it short and simple so she didn’t keep talking and talking. It was a habit she tended to do when she was nervous. “Wait.” She said, her eyes looking past the older gentleman, resting on the lock of the door. “I didn’t hear the door unlock or open. How’d you get in?” She questioned, glancing from the door, back to the man.
Had she been so focused on the cuffs, she hadn’t heard him come back in and lock the door? No, she would’ve heard him fiddling with the lock, or the heavy wooden door opening and closing. “Can.....Can you walk through walls?” She said in a accusatory tone. Her mind drifted back to the red-headed girl that knew her name, and quickly pictured the man walking through solid objects like a ghost.
She had only met a hand full of mutants in her life, and all of them were at the Alias center when she went to test her abilities. If her assumptions were correct, she had encountered at least four today: The guy with the metal arm, the redhead in the alley way, and this man. Nine had some sort of ability, even if he hadn't showcased it yet. Her day kept getting weirder and weirder.
Naomi watched Reaper and Emilia, further feeling out the… relationship between the two. There was no denying that’s what it was, or at least had been. Her brows furrowed. It complicated things.
Not that there had really been a question that Emilia knew Reaper at this point, but she hadn’t been sure of to what degree…
She did, however, flash a smile when Emilia said she would make Reaper surrender.
She wasn’t wrong.
Realistically, she could probably crush Reaper’s skull completely, if the urge struck her. She contemplated the potential within her currently, the blue aura surging brighter around her hands. She could probably tune them up high enough for concrete to be a relative non-issue… plenty enough for a human- or superhuman, skull.
The further banter between the duo had Naomi rolling her eyes, and full-well predicting Reaper’s reversal of the situation. The look she gave Emilia was a clear “...Really?” as Reaper spoke.
The white haired woman gave a little shrug as her control of the blasts was questioned.
”Finesse isn’t my thing,” she admitted, ”Sheer power, I can do. I need a little help to manage finesse.”
She let it look like she was questioning her own abilities, eyeing Reaper and Emilia for a moment.
Then she flashed a grin.
”But. Sheer power is normally enough, fortunately~”
And with that, the concussive energy she’d been harnessing left her hand. Not aimed directly for Emilia and Reaper, but instead for the floor. The wood at Reaper’s feet would damn near disintegrate, the blast sending splinters everywhere and destroying a good 15 to 20 feet of flooring in the process.
Plenty enough to drop Emilia and Reaper both, and give Emilia a chance to escape his grip. With holding Emilia, the supersoldier would be unlikely to be able to react quickly enough to catch himself.
Naomi moved to the edge of the hole, glanced down, and promptly jumped down after Reaper, the goal being to land on the man and slam a pair of concussive blasts to either side of his head.
”I will make you surrender. Emilia wasn’t wrong about that.”
She probably shoved just a touch too much power behind the blasts, enough to cause quite a bit of damage to your average human being. Reaper would probably be fine, though. He was a supersoldier after all.
Evelyne Montavon -Gemini-
New Angeles
11:32 AM
Amidst the strums and hums of the orchestral music gracing her ears through the small earbuds inserted into them, Hardwire’s mumbles in the background drummed in time as though his part were merely another section of the orchestra. His cybernetic form sat on the opposite side of the room to where Evelyne laid under an a-frame holding up a human sized robotic. It was a complex structural skeleton with endless wiring and chips, each designed to serve an individual purpose.
Green eyes stared in concentration as her tongue ran along the edges of her teeth, Eve holding her hand and the soldering iron mid phase so that she didn’t have to spend an hour untacking the outer shell of the robotics’ foot component. Tacking the last sensor to the arch of the robotic foot was no easy task especially as she lay half contorted to reach the spot but never the less Eve was able to do it, completely in her element as her booth of equipment surrounded her form. As Hardwire grumbled in the background Eve maintained her concentration until the small task was completed, soon pulling her hand and the soldering iron back from the robotic and shaking her arm as she returned the limb to its normal state. Pushing up onto her feet, Eve took a moment to stand back and admire the robotic skeleton whilst adjusting her messy bun of hair. Puffing a few loose strands of hair from her face she thought over the next series of steps in the process, taking the pieces of skin material and connecting the sensory system to the epidermal type material. It would be days before the product would be complete but Eve had the kind of determination and pride that would keep her working for hours on the thing.
Had he not been hooked up to the machines, Evelyne would had gladly updated Hardwire on the significance of the next phase though she had learnt that conversing with him whilst he was connected into a system was about as successful as talking to a brick wall. Eve had grown to accept that any kind of normal conversation with a Furor member was never likely to be what the average citizen would regard as ‘fluffy’ but in her own way she had learned to like some more of the subtle qualities underneath the terroristic and downright psychopathic nature of them. For anyone looking at the members of Furor, exactly why Evelyne Montavon would be with them was a mystery and thankfully for Eve, her presence in the world had ceased to be public knowledge since the day of the Belarus incident.
Eve and Hardwire shared an interest in technology with varying subjects overlapping with her own knowledge and expertise. Despite the fact that the Furor had once been her enemy, Eve was now among them with her own hands deep into the plan for destruction through her offer of monetary support and volunteering to create and adapt a series of robotics for the group. One of these creations had been developed for Hardwire to utilise, a humanoid robot that would move as intricately as any other person on the street but would host a changeable face in order to provide anonymity in its use. Look at me now father , Evelyne had thought when she had sat under the dim glow of her lamp at night with the concept plan, presenting the idea the following morning to Purifier and Hardwire. Once upon a time Eve would have been smashing down doors to eliminate her new colleagues but events in her life had led her down the dark path, alone and with a forcefully renewed purpose. It had taken her from a life of fieldwork and grueling tasks all in the name of protecting a city to working alongside the very people who had no doubt eliminated her beloved but had almost taken her as well. There were times she had stopped to rethink the following choices but ultimately as she stared back at her work, Evelyne had resigned to the knowledge that none of that mattered anymore.
Just Like Old Days (collaboration between queens and kat)
Jan took a deep breath as Hardwire flickered off the screen and showed a few families hopping on a carousel. The video of the ride moving slowly to the fine tune of classical music soothed Jan. Her lips parted, heartbeat picking up speed as the ride began to turn faster and the mechanism began to fry. Jan grinned, adrenaline rushing through her body as the children began to cry and the parents began to panic at the sudden malfunction. She giggled at the ride attendant as he tried to fix the ride, only to be knocked unconscious by shock. The ride slowed down and Jan clapped a little, sitting up as she admired Hardwire’s work for a brief moment before he came back on screen, his signature skull icon blazing on the flatscreen.
“Oh, Hardwire. I’m sure Purifier will give you something good to do, soon. You’re valuable to him, indisposable. He’s just waiting for the right time.”
The skull was emotionless as Hardwire growled lowly. “Everything is disposable eventually, but I will remain adaptable. Evelyne is working on a new, stronger body. This will allow me to participate in upcoming uprisings, and broaden my range of abilities. Whether Purifier sees me as indisposable or not is inconsequential. I must continue to constantly upgrade myself as time passes, to ensure I don’t become obsolete.”
Hardwire wasn’t normally a talkative fellow, nor was he passionate about a lot of things, but robotics was the one thing he held a special fondness for. As he talked, the skull emblem on the television grew static and glitchy.
“With the bodies Evelyne creates, I shall be at the forefront of battles. I will be a demigod.”
The more he talked, the more erratic and obsessed his metallic voice sounded. He let out a breath and grew quiet.
“Hardwire?” Jan questioned.
“I apologize, I tend to drone on about that particular subject.” He said, his voice returning to normal. The television went back to its resting screen, the skull remaining motionless once more. “Tell me January, why did you join Furor?”
She was relieved to know that he didn’t static out by accident.
“Why did I join?” She raised a brow.
“Well, Purifier offered me a place among Furor. He saw potential in me, so I joined.”
Hardwire's interest was peaked by her words. “And what if Arcadia saw potential in you, would you join them? No, there is a deeper reason, one I have yet to learn.” He paused, before continuing. “Tell me, you seem to enjoy your abilities. I watched you with the homeless man in the alleyway. Do you enjoy fear as much as I?”
“The fear of others, yes,” Jan responded, caution on her words. “Why are you so curious to learn about… me?”
“Because I enjoy learning about oddities.” He said plainly, before continuing. “You, Purifier, Ashmonger. You are unlike traditional humans. You recognize real emotion, embrace it even. Purifier isn’t much for talking, and Ashmonger is dreadfully annoying. You are tolerable.”
“You underestimate me if you think I recognize real emotion. I have no emotion. I don’t feel empathy, Hardwire. I didn’t feel anything when I destroyed that man. How is that emotion?” Jan questioned.
“Empathy isn’t a true emotion. Empathy is an emotion created by the masses just to seem more genuine, and less like animals. No, you didn’t show emotion. You showed desire. Passion even.” His words were eager and mechanical, yet wasn’t harsh or rude. “You don’t fool yourself with fake emotions, but embrace your true ones. You, January, are an oddity in this world.”
“True emotion?” she echoed, leaning back into the chair. Hardwire was a strange man; He was confusing too. “I don’t understand.”
“True emotions are those that surface when humans have their back against the wall. Fear. Anger. When you have no place else to go, when fake feelings like love and trust run out, that is when true emotions surface.” He explained, pausing to let the words sink in. “With you and Purifier, you both have discarded these faulty, fake emotions and have embraced the true nature of mankind.”
“Ah, yes,” Jan glanced away. She disliked talking about emotion. Emotions made no sense to her. “Purifier taught me well. Love and trust get you nowhere. He taught me how to harness my ability, how to make others fear me, how to channel anger into my powers.”
“Tell me January, do you trust Purifier?” His question was simple, but full of intrigue.
“I… Do I trust him?” Jan pondered the question. Purifier had done so much to take her in and train her. He never betrayed her, she never betrayed him, but she was, in all realities, on her own still after two years. Jan hadn’t thought about her relationships with anyone in Furor. She hadn’t considered whether she trusted them or believed in them. She just was. Jan swallowed hard, eyebrows narrowing as she contemplated, “I… I don’t know. I never thought about it. Should I?”
A small chuckle bellowed from the TV. “That is for you to decide for yourself. Never let others make decisions for you, unless you wish to become like the majority of humans.” He let his words hang in the air for a moment. “You are young, in time I trust you will grow both in strength, and intelligence. Trust your instincts January, your true emotions.”
“Now, what will you do until the uprising in New Angeles begins?” He switched the subject, quickly growing bored from the talk of relationships and emotion.
“Entertain myself and see if I can do anything else for Purifier. Surely, he has something for me.” Jan stood up and began to pace back and forth. “What will you do? Test Evelyne’s new robotics?”
“Perhaps. If she has them complete, I’d like to make everything is in order. I was also tasked with keeping an eye on you, until further notice.” The skull on the screen seemed to follow the girls pacing, keeping track of her movement. “I’m sending him a message as we speak to let him know everything is in order with you and I, and we are only waiting for his word to begin the rioting.”
“Of course he wants to keep an eye on me,” Jan pouted a little and scratched her head. She sighed, “I guess that’s to be expected though.”
Purifier still treated her like a little girl. She didn’t understand how to change it.
“Purifier may have a task that needs handling in the coming days here in the city. A powerful mutant, a young girl with the ability to combust into flames is being raised in New Angeles as the next poster child for Arcadia. If you’re interested, I could recommend you for the job.”
“Yes, do that," Jan spoke in a dismissive tone. "I’m starving for a challenge. Well, Hardwire, it was a pleasure speaking with you as always. I’m afraid I must be on my way though. I’ll see you again.”
Jan left the electronic store out the back door without another word. It seemed she’d have to put in triple the effort this time.
New Angeles - Bordering territory between the slums and docks
A single, cloudy, brownish-green, amber rimmed iris stared through the high-tech scope, ignoring all the numbers, stats and other information within the small reflection of a screen, the focused gaze followed the young man wearing a cap until he vanished into the depths of the warehouse. “You need to position your snipers better.” She muttered to herself. Super-human or not, capable or not, the whole point of having snipers was to cover every possible angle that would need to be covered in case your agent on the ground missed something. More often than not something was missed.
Pulling back from the weapon just slightly the brunette looked across the way, into the the building. Bringing her attention through the scope again she hoped that she could catch him, or at least be able to keep an eye on him. Clenching her jaw she tried to listen in on what was happening, words were distant and muffled, drowned out by the sounds of explosions and gunfire. There was another sigh as she continued to watch, at this point it was all she could do. Eventually she’d have to come face to face with these peacekeepers, or they’d at least come looking for their own. She’d figure out what to do when that time came.
“Sloan, we need you to move to position B.” The comms on the unconscious officer crackled.
Alexandra pulled away from the weapon and looked at the man laying on the ground. “Really?” She scoffed, “Fuck off.” There was a subtle shake of her head as Alexandra exhaled heavily and brought her attention back to the show she was barely catching a glimpse of. Hopefully she’d have enough time to keep her attention on the detective and grab any information that could be of value to this situation. Anything that could lead her to Furor, whether is was through Shade or not.
Her attention remained ahead on the building, she knew she wouldn’t have much time until the peacekeepers made their way to her position and she wasn’t gathering much information from this whole ordeal. The pieces of conversation she was able to pick-up seemed like whispers, distant and quiet, it was a strain to listen in on and if anything it took away from her visual focus as Alex struggled. “I guess if you’re plugged into comms this—” A door slammed mid sentence, hazel eyes locking in on the sound as someone darted out a side-door of the building. Taking a breath she focused and clenched her jaw. ‘Sloppy, dirty ragged clothing, unshaved, matted, messy and unkempt straggly hair. No uniform, barely any armours—’
BANG
‘—not a peacekeeper.’ Blood splattered from his kneecap, followed by a rather sickening crunch as he stumbled to the ground, a cloud of dust surrounding him. At this point Alexandra knew what was to come with these Peacekeepers, if she was going to be arrested she may as well get whatever information she could out of the whole ordeal, which in truth, she was the only one to blame for fucking up.
Taking a few steps back atop the roof, she heard Sloan’s comms go off. Paying no attention to the words she darted across the roof and launched herself off and towards whoever she had just shot. Her landing held no grace nor badassery, just a dusty cloud of obstruction as Alexandra coughed and waved the air clear from in front of her face. Approaching the man that tried to stay calm and cool through his evident pain she grabbed him by the waistband of his pants and heaved him up as she walked further down the side of the warehouse. In her mind the former agent counted as she waited for the first contact to come from the Peacekeepers.
Shoving the surprisingly silent man against a wall she stepped up to him and glared. “Furor, you tell me everything you know.” She spoke bluntly.
The man laughed. “And why the fuck would I do that?” He looked her in the eyes with a rather crooked smile that seemed to hold a hint of insanity.
“Because I’m the one that shot you and I won’t hesitate to go for another.” Alex spoke behind clenched teeth as she continued to glare, her fingers digging into the man’s kneecap. He showed his pain but didn’t voice it as he bared his teeth at her. “We don’t have much time here, they probably will kill you. I won’t. Not yet at least...so speak up, NOW!” She practically snarled at the man as her arm came across the upper half of his chest and placed pressure on him.
The first bullet whizzed just behind Alexandra’s head. Flaring her nostrils with a sharp exhale she looked down at the man as she dropped the rifle and raised her right arm up, next to his head, palm flat against the wall behind him. “They will shoot to kill, no hesitation so tell me what you know about Furor. Where are they located? What are they planning? Anyt—” Her words were cut off as her head jerked to the left rather abruptly. Snarling she slowly turned her head back up to look at the measly footsoldier. Taking hold of the straggler with both hands she turned them around, her back towards the oncoming Peacekeepers and their bullets. Alex slowly started to apply force against the man, pushing against him until he was on his knees, this time he let out a small yell of pain. “How can you be so devoted to a group of terrorists? What could they possibly be offering you? Just answer my damn questions!”
She could feel the bullets against her back, surprised that they were still going, she thought the peacekeepers were smarter than that. Alex could feel the warmth of the sun through the holes in her shirt, if they kept going she wasn’t sure the piece of fabric would be staying on much longer. “Fucking hell…” she muttered with a growl before she let her fist come across his face. Letting the rather useless man fall to the ground she turned around and glared at the small squad of Peacekeepers before her. “Stop fu—” more guns fired, covering her face Alexandra stumbled backwards and groaned. “STOP!” she practically screamed. Peeking through her arms she watched the officers reload. Putting her hands out and up she froze as they took aim once again. “Can’t you—” A weapon fired again as she closed her eyes and turned her head to the side. “Are you done then?” she asked and looked back towards the peacekeepers. “It took you what? Two to three clips each to realize that it wasn’t working? How dumb are you?” She questioned genuinely.
“ON YOUR KNEES NOW!” One of the officers called out.
Alexandra compiled and came to her knees, hands still up in the air as she lowered her head. Why she chose to follow their orders was a different story all together. Alexandra wasn’t necessarily a law or rule breaker, despite some of the actions she chose to take today. She knew this is what it would come to eventually, she had put herself in this position and she was well aware that she’d be getting a mouthful from Jacob soon, but she had also hoped that she’d be getting some information that’d be worth the sacrifice. “Might as well take him too, maybe you might be able to get some info out of him.” She muttered and motioned towards the unconscious man.
Alexandra’s arms were forced behind her back, jaw clenched as she glared at the ground, nostrils flared as she exhaled heavily. Closing her eyes as she felt the cuffs click shut she sighed, hearing them power on she dropped her shoulders as she was pushed up to her feet. Normal, she was normal now.
Emilia was surprised Naomi did not go for Reaper, but her actions were swift and successful. The blast to the ground was all Emilia needed to dive out of the way as Elijah found a way to break his fall. Emilia scrambled out of the way as Naomi jumped down after Elijah. A force of blue energy lit up the warehouse and Reaper was out cold.
“Who’s the person you saw outside, Naomi? We can’t let him see us. We’re going out a different way. I’ll hijack a van on the other side and don’t give me that damn look.”
Naomi had every right to suspect Emilia, to question what, why, when, and how, but they didn’t have time for answers or hook up stories.
“Blast that wall down.”
A large explosion-like sound was made and the duo dragged Elijah out as quickly as possible towards the other side. A black van was parked on the other side of the warehouse, further down the dock. The escape was rather challenging but Emilia and Naomi managed to stick Elijah in the backseat with power negating handcuffs and a guaranteed knockout.
They retreated rather quickly back to the station in New Angeles, Emilia buzzing in and letting Sydney know they had their culprit. Elijah was placed in a containment cell and any further mission statements or need for updates were requested by Sydney. Emilia mauled on her bottom lip as she and Naomi waited for Director Pearl to arrive.
Emilia knew her friend and work partner was impatient, probably, to hear the news of how she and Reaper knew each other… personally. She just wanted to give Sydney the info they received and get out of the station, however, things didn’t always go as planned; things didn’t always go the way she planned, and now, she had to face the consequences of Sydney taking her sweet time.
Drops of sweat glistened on both of their faces underneath the warm orange lights. The young woman twitched visibly as he asked her the questions, and turned red as she looked his way. From that Lepton could deduct some info about the pair, one is that they can't go to an official hospital for a variety of reasons, the second is that this young woman is most likely a first time criminal. Many people come to Eidos for illegal reasons, wounds that would cause suspicion, unauthorized and unregistered cybernetics, weapons, or the most common one: they are wanted fugitives. For a second Lepton pondered about kicking them out, the girl was much too shaky to keep a secret, much too unfamiliar with a life on the run. Arcadia's nullification cuffs. They seemed to have been reworked since Lepton's time with them, but there was no way that he didn't recognize one of the items that he partially developed. It also made another thing clear, that man was a superhuman, and arrested by Arcadia, now wanted by Arcadia. Sullen eyes behind round framed glasses floated to the papers plastered on the wall once more. “I have money, and I really didn’t mean to lock you out, but some other people that might know we are here.” In the end he couldn't do it, he couldn't care less about what the girl had to offer, but he couldn't leave them. The blood made it hard to see exactly what his injuries are, but there is a large gash on his forehead, and one of his arms. The arm wound was strange, it didn't seem like a regular cut as the tissues were sliced in multiple ways for many times. The doctor's thoughts floated back to an old Arcadia board meeting, the one where it was pitched to implant every superhuman with a tracking device after some escapes and sudden disappearances. The swelling of his chest suggested the possibility of broken ribs, it was a messy situation over all, he wondered if the girl knows more about how this man ended up like this. "How did he end up like this?" Asking as he glanced over at the girl. Don’t give me that damn look did absolutely nothing to keep Naomi from giving her friend an almost patented deadpan stare, one that Emilia had been on the receiving of semi-frequently. Especially lately. She gave he head a little shake, however, kicking herself back into “soldier mode” so to speak.
”They didn’t get out of their car; I’m not sure who it is. I’m not sure it matters, either,” the white haired woman grumbled.
The only way she was going to get any answers was if they didn’t get caught up in… whatever was waiting outside for them, so she gave the blasts a little extra boost and couldn’t help the grin that spread over her features as the wall crumbled to her borrowed powers.
Thanks, little friends, for making me feel special.
It was rare that Naomi felt sentimental about the bacteria from Kilauea. But man, did it feel good, and they were the cause.
She helped Emilia get Reaper into the van, an extra blast of force helping ensure the captive stayed… well. Captive, and Naomi hopped in the back of the van to “guard” Reaper.
Which translated to having a nice charge of power up and ready to slam into his face if he showed any signs of waking. The woman also, rather subtly, drew a good couple vials of blood from the man, blocking the movements with her body from Emilia’s view. She didn’t know whether or not she could copy the man’s abilities, but it might be worth a shot later… The pair of vials were stashed away.
Once they got back to Arcadia, Naomi went through her usual “procedure” upon the end of a mission. Telling a higher-up which pills she had taken, surrendering the remainders (and keeping Reaper’s blood stashed away), and being watched as she discharged the remainder of her blasts and was… run through the entire time of her Regen. It was… uncomfortable.
It made her feel weak when all was said and done.
She rejoined Emilia about the time Emilia settled to wait for Director Pearl, sinking into a chair next to her partner and folding her arms over her chest, now dressed in a simple pair of black baggy sweatpants and a black tank top, giving her head a shake and taking a gulp from a water bottle she carried with her.
”Safety precautions suck,” was Naomi’s flat, grumbly statement to begin with. She sat there a few moments longer, then looked over at Emilia.
”So. You’ve got explanations to give me. You initially wanted to kill him rather than bring him in, then you’re all over him when he shows up. I didn’t tell Sydney anything when she was looking for updates, but I do want to know what was going on.”
