“Lips red as the rose. Hair black as night. Skin, white as snow. So it is true. The Princess has become Un-dead. Gods save us all.”

-Her majesty's royal huntsman.

The tale of Snow White is one known to many. From her dwarven protectors, to the beauty she was known for and the way her stepmother died has spread throughout the lands. But in the end, it seems the Witch has gotten her revenge in death what she could not obtain in life. With her dying breath, she laid a curse upon the kingdom and upon her stepdaughter, cursing her with corruption and offering everything she had to ensure its success.

The Dark powers heard her plea, and did so. A few months into their rule, the princess died and all mourned her passing. But strange things began to happen around the castle afterwards. Servants reported a haunting, white apparition of the princess seen before vanishing around the corner. Bodies of hounds, horses and more drained of blood were discovered the following morning, as the cock crowed to announce the sun. The prince himself, grew more and more anemic and pale and the dwarves? They grew secretive and began acting as the castle stewards. Their requests strange and alarming, from the mundane materials they called for to the rebuffments of their own kin. Publicly shown, as they refused all to do their own thing.

And then one night, at the stroke of twelve it happened.

A scullery maid was killed, the princess sighted with blood soaking the dress she was buried in as she laughed and chilled the bones of all who heard it. As they finally tried to stop her, it was too late. The dwarves, protectors of her even in death had been busy, artisans of death one and all as their traps and numerous surprises laid in wait killed all before they could even see her. And when night came again, the kingdom changed.

Dark clouds flew against the winds, revealing themselves to be crows that brought night early. Great trees, black and twisted grew among the houses and cobblestone paths, as a forest took over. And as her tomb door opened, followed by her guardians the Princess reborn took her first step out into her ruined kingdom. Those who did not flee, died that day. And the forest itself grew mighty, under the hand of Snow White.

Dark things crept into the ruined kingdom that day. The fate of the prince, ultimately unknown.

That will change. Snow White has plagued the lands long enough, her monsters raiding and dragging victims back to her woods. Her trees watered with blood and every beast within, sharing in her hunger for the living.

You are a member of a crusade, intended to stop her and end her threat. By the Great Lion on his throne...By the Lady of the Lake and John the Presbyter in his lost kingdom, Snow White will fall.

The alternative is too horrific to contemplate.

OOC Talk

Hello and welcome. I'm Ringmaster, dabbler of some small note in writing. It has been some time since I had run anything, but I've decided to try once more. I'm aiming for at least seven people, in a Gothic Horror setting inspired by such works as Berserk, Castlevania and of course, Fables and Folklore in general.

The stipulation here is no canons. At least no fandom types most here are used to. I'm looking for OC's based on Fables, as this is by and large, a dark fairy tale. Characters based on old epics and classics are good, with many examples and spin offs available in works such as Looking Glass Wars, Vertigo's Fables, etc.

I'll also be limiting to seven players as well, with pertinent, major posting time updates every Saturday.

Character Sheet

Name: Obvious enough.

Origin: What story did you bring them from?

Age: Obvious again.

Gender: Obvious.

Homeland: Either selected from the fluff provided or discussed in PM with me.

Fate Points: At the beginning, you get access to three.

Gifts: Here is where it gets interesting.

Every member of your group is famous for a particular thing. Something that characterizes your story, your identity. In game, you will have access to three of them. Which are used through the payment of 'Fate' points. The stipulation is that they need to be connected to the character in question. Even then, they may not always give complete success, though there will always be degrees of victory.

Curse: Fairy tales are dark things. Give your character a drawback, tied to a quirk or some weakness connected to their story.

Background: What is this character? What differentiates it from the original story and what makes it tick?

Any questions on the character, PM me and we'll work it out.

----Example Character----

Name: Robin Hood

Robin1.png

Origin: The legend of Robin Hood

Age: 19

Gender: Male

Homeland: Fief Sherewood

Fate Points: 3

Gifts

The Bow of Yew: Robin Hood is a marksman of unparalleled skill. His arrows, unleashed find their targets with a skill bordering sorcery.

The Faceless Guardian: In the woods, none can track Robin Hood or spy him unless he reveals himself. His woodcraft and stealth is incredible as a result.

The Lord of Sherewood: Within the boundaries of the forest, Robin cemented his mastery by establishing himself as a master of ambush and traps. He carries this penchant with him, cheerily playing the villains role to ensure his friends survive.

Curse

The Reviled One: Thief. Murderer. Outlaw. Such are the words surrounding Robin Hood and this stigma follows everywhere. Those in authority will be against you, even in the best of times. Others may actively plot, or even betray you. There is no peace for you. Only eventual betrayal, by a people you spent your life protecting.

Background: Robin Hood is actually the latest in a series of guardians, for a circle of Druids located in Sherewood. When they perished when the monster's came, the circle was broken and the Guardian 'Robin Hood' was bereft of any purpose. He spent his days, using his skills to protect the common folk and raising his son to do the same, taking on the Mantle himself.

The current Robin Hood however, saw something worse in life. The Lord of the Fief, Duke John was greedy, uncouth and focused wholly on his own comfort. When Robin first saw oppression occur before him, he immediately stepped in...Violently.

Now tarnished with the moniker of criminal and outlaw, Robin spent his days and honed his skills on the Dukes men. And using the plunder among his raids to ensure the common folk were healthy and safe.

Shocking as it was to have the Outlaw part of the Crusade, he bears a warrant bearing the seal of Prospero: Court Wizard of Londinium and waits for a purpose, none could quite tell.

------Background Lore(WIP as more is added)----

Londinium: The city-realm of humanity, a place where the great families play political games under the dynasty of Pendragon. Ruled over by Uther Pendragon, the city has always been a staunch defender of the wider world from the predation of the Darkling Wood: The former kingdom that Snow White twisted into her image.

It also calls a number of fiefs part of its wider realm, from places such as Sherewood forest to Milan-by-the-sea, where Prospero himself claimed to have originated.

The Sunless Realm: In the shadow of the great mountains, there are places where the sun does not touch. Here the lamplight of the Dwarves illuminate and chase away the night. Ruling over from the Deep Throne of their capital Heimskringla, Weyland the Smith laments his people's role in the creation of the Darkling Wood. As a result, he is a staunch ally to Uther, proclaiming the mess as ‘his people's great shame.’

The Darkling Wood: When darker shadows slink in the night, when infants are robbed from bloody cradles, or travelers are never found as they walk the path by night? The wise and canny nod knowingly and gesture in the direction of the Darkling Wood.

No knight in full armor, no army has ever entered the woods and lived to tell the tale if they venture too deep. The very trees loom and seem like specters, the skies are perpetually overcast and gloomy. The earth itself feels cursed, as every beast stares and prowl with an intelligence unnatural to behold.

This is the realm of Snow White, that Uthers crusade is meant to cleanse.

The Crusade: After a particularly violent attack on a settlement, Uther upon hearing the news was said to have been like stone. And then throwing aside his crown, proclaimed to all.

"No more."

Since then, the mustering of the Crusade has drawn in many notables, great knights and more. Currently quartered in the Valley of Grimdale(the last, homely area on the edges of Snow White's influence), the Crusade have established a shanty town of tents, with more people coming in.

It is here our adventure begins.
