Children's Card Games - For Adults - With a Price

Welcome to YuGiOh: XXX Mode! A open-form RP where the fate of it's players is dependent on the outcome of real games, and the players who play them! This RP mixes a 'Trapped in an MMO' genera (ala .hack//, SAO, etc.) with Battle Royale-esque confrontation in a cybernetic world where you will play a children's card game, YuGiOh, to determine the direction of your interactions. Players shall literally be putting the will of their characters on the line where the winner of the duel will get what they want, be it an important artifact they've been seeking, their food or drink, or even just throw them on the bed rob them blind!

Please see the resource section to find a way to play that works for you!

The Plot

Was it Kaiba Corp? Those cheeky bastards at silicon valley? Looking out across the new landscape, you can't remember. Without recollection of how you came to be in this place, while that probably should be concerning, doesn't actually seem to bother you at all. It's amazing what can be manipulated when you willingly loaded you consciousness into a virtual world.

At least you're not alone.

The people of this world made much the same mistake at some point in their lives. Living in this place, while once a game, is just life now. A vast, digital landscape that one cannot distinguish from what was real and what is fake anymore. This is your 'real' now. You eat, sleep, drink, play... Feel hunger, but cannot starve. Feel thirsty, but cannot dehydrate. You can even try to kill yourself... But it will not work. Death is not a reality in this world. There will never be a cliff tall enough, a hole deep enough, or weapon sharp enough to do you in. No, this world, whatever it was first made for... Such things were not part of the design.

A card game, though, was.

Yes, while it seems a futile effort to try and get what you want from others in this world with things like threats and violence or a plea for sympathy, there is one way you can bend others to your will: A game of YuGiOh. Kind of weird... But everyone has long stopped questioning it. In this world, winning a game of YuGiOh is how you progress. It's how you get what you want. If you can best your opponent, you can demand something of them.

In this deathless game, people's needs vary wildly. Some people try to live normal lives... To feed themselves, to help others, to band together so they can make the best of this place. But some don't feel as much empathy... Or are driven mad with hunger. Some don't care about anything else anymore, so jaded by this world that all they want is to bring their opponent to the nearest hotel to have something to forget the sheer monotony. But no matter your needs...

You are all players in this game. You will have to play if you are going to get what you seek.

XerXieX mode is a game mode who's origins are a bit of a mystery. Was it intentionally put in by some developer with some sadistic sense of humor? Or a hacker, who found the thing within the game or even put it there themselves? Was it even intentionally switched on, or the result of some accident?

In any case, it took an otherwise simple but popular Integrated-Reality MMO and trapped them there. The game rules still exist. Players can go around defeating NPCs for petty cash all they want. However, it now has also prevented them ever leaving, and seemingly erased anything in their psyche that allows them to recall a time before their initial login. Many don't even realize they ever had lived outside of it. It's not unlike the Matrix really, with people going on unaware of anything beyond this reality, except with less effort trying to convince them it's all real.

The RP itself is open-form; You can set about with whatever aspirations you desire. Make as many characters as you wish. Check out the rules section for a little more on this!

The Locale

  • The Hub - A circular structure lined with a litany of NPC shops & through ways along it's edges with multiple vertical levels lined with similar accessible points. The Hub is a place accessible from just about anywhere, and a common ground where the rich and poor, weak and strong share a junction. Many people pass through here going from one warp point to another, though as a result, it's also naturally a common place for players with predatory intentions to congregate.
  • Player Housing- Every player has open access to their own home through a portable warp point! Make it whatever you want. From a pirate den used to store your riches and items, to a prim and proper suite, you can make it your own and be there with the press of a button! These are also arguably the safest locations in the world, only accessible by the player themselves and only allowing those that they will to be there.
  • Colosseum Supreme! - A massive Colosseum where in-game events commonly take place! It tends to attract only the most confident of players, as the prices wagered in duels here tend to be quite high, and is the only location in the game with an entrance fee. If you're too poor to get in, you won't be able to duel or participate.
  • The Outlands - From forests to desert, ocean & cloudy sky, the out lands are a generic term for the strange places found beyond the common locations above. Are you a daring adventurer on the hunt for some secret these strange places may hold? Or some brigand, looking to ambush the unexpected far away from prying eyes? The oddities and beauties that can be found out here are seemingly endless, though good luck finding other NPCs to make your food for you or earn some petty cash. This is also where player colonies exist, as some out there strive to find a way of life outside the influence of the common grounds where rules are stricter.

How Does The Game Work?

To the players, it is very true to life. All your bodily organs function, and apart from that weird thing of it acting like a game, everything else is the same. If you cry, you will have tears... If you are cut, you will bleed. You simply will not die. With the exception of The Hub and the Collosium, players can make their own things with what is around them and even build a home apart from the designated Player Housing. So much like life, but in a world that is so unlike it.

The crux of the game revolves around duels. Players can challenge each other to duels, and name a price. It can be anything from petty cash to will-bending surrender, where the player may have to do something they otherwise would never do. With the exception of the hub & player housing, if a player is willing to risk a high or equal price, they can force others into confrontation. Though doing this in the open tends to bring about unwanted attention...

Apart from duels, you can also do just about anything else you'd want to do. Cook, craft, farm, swim, it's all available to you. However, most things outside the out lands will require you to have to spend currency on some NPC in the Hub, so if you were thinking of having some sweet beef kabobs you'll have to go shopping in the hub for the NPC that'll sell you beef. So, in many ways, it all comes back to dueling... Or begging other more successful duelist for handouts, whatever works!

Post-XXX Mode activating, there are artifacts within the world that grant distinct advantages or abilities that can be used during duels! These artifacts, however, are surrendered the moment the duelist who holds them loses, even if it was not part of the price. As a result, these tend to change hands quite often, and paint a target on players backs... So watch out! See the list of active artifacts to discover it's current wielder or status, and see what they can do!

Rules & Recommendations
  • You must be 18 or older; Stuff may go down that isn't for children. Though if you got to the Red Star section, you should know that.
  • OOC Discussion is a must!! If you're going to wager something that in RP would be considered non-con, you BEST already agree to it in OOC with whoever you're partnering with! In addition, you'll need to share info in order to duel each other using whatever you want to use.
  • I recommend you use multiple characters! This is for a number of reasons, but mostly the next rule.
  • One Deck per character! This is mostly to keep things simple. It also gives characters a definitive 'theme' that they can identify with. I'm not going to push this too hard and ask for deck lists that cannot change or anything like that, I trust you're here to have fun and not so much show off your mad YGO skillz, so take this rule with a pinch of salt. Don't make it a problem, trust me.
  • Your wagers cannot be something that lasts for more than 24 hours, and it cannot affect other people who are not your opponent directly. You don't get a permanent sex-slave just because you beat them in a children's card game. Even if you're into that.
  • HAVE FUN!! This is a goofy premise where you basically get to bone people for winning a game of YGO, or take their lunch money, or put them in a dress. Whatever! If you want to forge a grand story about uncovering the mysteries of this place, or becoming what Neo was to the Matrix, then go for it! But I recommend creating a litany of characters that cover some dumb niche, like maybe you have some edgy chick who's super into zombie-decks or something for when you want to use that zombie deck of yours, and have another character in concept for when you get bored of playing the same thing too often.
  • Be flexible. If you're using something like YGOPro to do your duels, understand that not everyone may be able to do the same. This goes back to that OOC rule, really.
  • Please be at a writing skill level of Adept or up.
  • No dueling in The Hub.
