Gar'm
6V2wCHO.jpg

While elves are said to be of the tree and orcs believed to be of the land, the Gar’m are rumored to have been born of fire and ash. Since the dawn of time upon the world, they were often viewed as enemies to the elves before the Sundering as they tended to be a more destructive force that often instigated war. They worshiped fire as a bringer of death and a ward of life, and their fire-attuned magi are held in the highest regard, often easily garnering leadership positions among their clans.

Gar’m stands for the collective, while an individual would be referred to as just Gar. Their first colonies were at the base of a volcano known as Krahg’mag’ar which erupted during the Sundering nearly wiping the entire race from existence. The elves that lived believed it to have been Justice exacted upon them by the World Tree for their destructive transgressions and have since been a distant memory for those in the Northern Hemisphere.

But the Gar’m survived the Sundering, settling within the continents of Southlyn and Yedi. While the elves still outnumber them, they were still an unstoppable force if ever crossed.

Appearance

This magical race is very bestial in appearance, taking on features and fur patterns akin to felines. Their snouts and fur patterns vary in length depending on their origin clan, but their overall physique is typically the same structure.

They're a tall race with the shortest averaging around 6’3” and the tallest at nearly 8’. Both men and women have broad, muscular, and bulky physiques with four to six horns that protrude from their heads. Their sharp teeth are accompanied by longer fangs either on the top, bottom, or both sets of teeth, usually towards the front of their mouth.

Their eyes come in all sizes and colors, but are most notably different with slitted pupils that also allow them better vision in the dark.

Their legs are more animalistic in structure with thick feet making them digitigrade, which also allows them, despite their mass, to tread more quietly. The pads of their feet are thick with talons protruding from their toes, often used in conjunction with their claws as weaponry in hand-to-hand combat.

Culture

Gar’m do have cities and small outer tribes, but their groups are comprised of clans. There are hundreds of clans across the continents, some being splinters of others. Clans that band together form tribes with every clan leader, or Morg’ai, making decisions for the tribe as a whole. Larger tribes form cities comprised of and built by multiple clans as a monument to the alignments, and so the cities are considered sacred. If a clan ever decides to cross their tribesmen, the city built in their alignment will, at some point in the war, be completely demolished either through the war or through a symbolic ritual,

Magic is a prevalent feature in their society meaning that, by elvish beliefs, they are either a creation born of the World Tree or gifted by the World Tree similarly to the Dragon Wardens. The truth of it is only known to Elder Lannya, but no one seems to care for such an answer due to the rift between elves and gar’m. Unlike elves, gar’m can give birth to non-magical offspring, which further suggests they are blessed by the World Tree rather than born from it. These non-magical offspring are forced to join the clan armies to prove they are worthy and capable in a fight despite magic not being the main offensive source. Those with magic harness the attunements to enhance their brutality.
