Story

The year is 1980, 5 years after the Dark Lord took Hogwarts. The fierce battle, though bravely fought by the students and professor, was short lived, and left a destroyed campus in its wake. The dust had barely settled on the remains of the great wizarding institution when officials from the Ministry of Magic appeared before the tired students, informing them that they were to be relocated immediately. Before even being given a chance to check if their loved ones made it out alive, friends and enemies alike were torn apart from each other, most of them left without a way to check up on anybody else.

The year is 1980, 5 years after some of Hogwarts' most beloved students last saw each other.

It's about time for a reunion.

CHAPTER 1: The Reunion
Chapter blurb

Students

Kassandra Caridad Castillo former 7th year Ravenclaw

Christopher Liam Williams former 7th year Ravenclaw
During the attack on Hogwarts, Will found out that his father's prejudice against half-bloods was so great that the elder Williams was willing to fight for the Dark Lord. His father's efforts were instrumental to the destruction of the campus, and Will found himself turning his back on his family, their causes, and their fortune to join August's war efforts.

Will is now a research assistant to one of the lecturers at the university where he earned his degree in Muggle Studies and Relations. During the holidays, he goes home to the Yilmaz family residence.

August Yilmaz former 7th year Ravenclaw
After the battle, August threw himself in his studies. He found out he has Raynaud’s disease and had to give up on his musician dream. Now, he aspires to be a curse breaker, and is one of the leaders of the rebellion at his university.

He is still roommates with Will and is currently still in school for a graduate degree.

Angelo Lovelace former 5th year Hufflepuff
Short recap

Ondine Fear former 5th year Hufflepuff
When the war broke out, Ondine was forced to come home and hide. Once she was able, she was forced to resume her education as normal and act normal, as if nothing had happened. Currently, her family is trying to figure out what legal steps they can make to avoid her inheriting and becoming the new head of their house. She is still pretending to be a pureblood and forced to keep a low profile and not to pick sides.

She is currently in her junior year at university to study something, she isn’t sure what. However, because her family wants her to gain a favourable standing within society, she will probably be taking up something in the political sciences.

Gabriella Isabelle Flores former 5th year Ravenclaw
Gaby tossed aside her wand during the battle at Hogwarts due to her lack of experience using it. Most of her efforts were focused on healing the fallen, and because she was inside the campus when the structure came crumbling down, she was also one of the most injured. After the battle, she was immediately transported back to Castelobruxo, where her former professors focused on her recovery. She finished her studies in South America before coming back to Europe where she vowed to focus on looking for her parents. It took her nearly two years to reunite with them, and only then decided to go back to school.

She is currently entering her freshman year of university, taking a major in Herbology.

William Asher Fay former 7th year Slytherin
Short recap

Melinda Geralds former 7th year Gryffindor
Mel had a completely breakdown after Hogwarts’ destruction and went crazy. She spent the few years in the asylum to recover. Now, she is permanently staying at home, an empty shell of what she used to be before, but is slowly regaining herself.

She is currently not enrolled in school, nor is she taking up any employment.

Zedekiah Blackbourne former 7th year Gryffindor

The nights were endless when patrolling with fear in mind. The wizarding war in this foreign island had reached a new height and all caution was needed. Everyone was worked to the bone, weary from the endless fighting, for being afraid, for the nights that seemed so endlessly dark and cold. It were nights like these that the thoughts of better times flooded the mind all the more. In the darkness August’s eyes seemed to light up like that of a cat’s, but they stood dull, the years had worn him down and reminiscing had made had made him feel all the more fatigued of what had passed.

It felt like decades had past since he had last seen Hogwarts. However August was only twenty-three as of the moment, still at the beginning of his life, but yet he felt he had lived for an eternity.

Somewhere the clock struck two, signalling for August to discharge himself. Pulling out his wand he pointed it into the darkness. “Expecto patronum,” he whispered and a bright light escaped his wand, forming into a flock of fireflies that went into the night, carrying the message he had to give to the next charge. With that his watch had ended.

Though, his duty and as such his night as well were far from over. Going down the main road of the campus the foreigner went down a hidden road and repeated the secret sequence on the wall, mumbling a secret word before an entrance was formed. Stepping into the solemn room eyes moved rapidly towards him, afraid and wary before settling down and turning back to the main stage again.

Striding forwards to a table in the front, a special spot saved for him because of the speaker, August let himself fall into the hard chair. He flashed his friend a tired smile, not really looking at anyone in particular and only thinking of how much longer the night was to be. After a few moments and a drink to wake himself, August pulled a bag towards him and opened the heavy books after dropping them on the dusty tables. His books, to be exact as he still had his literature to catch up on while attending the secret meetings of the rebellion.

If there was anything her parents, her family, was good at, it was lying. By the time she had woken up all those years ago the rumor Raina had succumbed to her injuries from the battle at Hogwarts had already began to spread. An easy thing to do since the last time anyone had saw her, she had been heavily injured and stuck under a pile of rubble. If fortune favors the bold, lady luck favors the dumb - she never should have went up against Celeste.

Declan and Selene were the ones to get her out of there and away from it all. Selene being one of the aurors who came to the castle's aid, so her being there made sense. Declan probably had a slow work day and had nothing better to do than fight a loosing battle. Raina never had the chance to ask. By the time she came to, he had taken Kyler and vanished to the wind. In the past five years, she's never seen or heard from them. She hoped they were at least alive and some how happy. Her parents had Selene take her and pull the same stunt, but it wasn't long before the two went their separate ways. Or, rather, for Raina to decide she needed to split. The fact Selene never looked for her was something she was greatful for.

With no way to contact her family, Raina kept an ear out for rumors, and it was one particular rumor that lead her to the university. Well, there was at least one psrson who deserved to know she was alive. Raina liked to believe herself mature enough to admit it took some psyching up to actually show up. Despite the defenses and safeguards in place, getting in was no problem for the Djinnling. There was a crack in the wall that let in a draft, and where there was wind there was a way. She kind of figured once in everything would have fell into place, but now that she stood in a dark hallway Raina could only ask herself, what now?

Two figures were making their way down the hall. A patrol? Or just some poor, restless souls? She could go transparent in the still air, blend herself in the shadows. She could conjure up an illusion, distract them while she makes her getaway. But in the end, she would still be just as lost. So, she stood there, in the middle of the hallway, with her hands up and a familiar smirk twisting her lips, and waited for the lights of the wand to reveal her. Once they were significantly startled enough she simply said, "I come in peace?" It didn't take long for them to apprehend her and drag her away. With a million and one ways to escape, she simply let them.

The room they had taken her too had to be something thst served along the lines of great hall, with the ability to fit many and completed by a stage with table in front. The one she was looking for was easy to spot. Well damn, war did August some good. For the most part. With the commotion of their grand entrance, it didn't take long for almost every eye to be on her and her escorts, and she couldn't help a glance around.

The war left her with scars, and she wasn't the only one.

It wasn't until Raina was stopped in front of the table did she look back up at her... childhood friend? That was what you called a friend since childhood, right? Or did her "dying" somehow make that invalid? She figured she would have the perfect thing to say once she saw him, but Raina figured a lot of things. She did, at least, know her what her younger self would say.

"We found her stalking around the halls."

For old times sake she justified herself with, "It seemed like a good idea at the time."

The letters were starting to become hazy, the room too dull, lights too dim, and August in overall just felt really tired. He struggled on, however, midterms were soon and he had to think of his rebellion work as well.

When three figures stopped in front of his table August blearily tore his eyes away from his homework, eyes narrowing as he tried to make out what had happened this time.

The drowsiness didn’t stay for long when he realised this was Raina. Raina Summers, thought to have been dead for… how long even? August couldn’t believe his eyes as he stared at the person in front of him, a little battered and more mature than she had been the last time he saw her, but that went for them all.

Gaping at the female August collected himself, eyes set into a deep frown. “Incarcerous.” Immediately ropes conjured themselves out of thin air, wrapping around the Raina figure.

“You’re far from amusing, or smart,” August bristled, his wand still pointed at the intruder, prepared to attack again if he had to. “Who are you and what is your intention here?” the man continued with a clipped tone.

Raina had responses for a lot of things. Apparently best-friend-not-believing-you're-you is not one of those things. After the shock of being tied up by August Yilmaz of all people wore off, she just settled for a "you're a dumb bitch" look. Because really, what were you supposed to even say to that? Oh wait, on second thought, she knew exactly what to say, "Well fuck you too. No, seriously, fuck you. I'm not even supposed to be here, or any fucking where, but I thought hey, why not check up on August, make sure he's not running himself into the fucking ground-- oh wait, you are! We're in the middle of a fucking war and you're still studying? Only you, August!"

She huffed. Why couldn't things go as plan? She was expecting a hug, maybe some tears (from August of course), but no, he just had to be his logical self. How was she even supposed to convince him she was the real Raina (other than the fact no one could possibly pull off being her)? Scratch that, how could he even believe she of all people actually died! That... actually hurt a little. Maybe she just read too many stories of people hoping against hope they're friends and family were alive? Maybe she thought if anyone would think she was alive, it would be August of all people. Maybe she should have stayed dead. Figuratively speaking; no way a castle of all things would be the death of her.

"Fuck you," she spat, again. It didn't have the heat behind it as she would have liked, and the fact she could no longer handle August's distrust, fixing her gaze somewhere off to the side, probably didn't help.

"And that, dear ladies and dashing gentlemen, is why it is simply our duty to patrol the nights and keep watch over one another. There is a darkness that knows no restraint when it comes to taking our loved ones; why should we show restraint in our preparations to fight it?"

Speeches had always been Will's thing. Week after week after week, he spoke in front of small crowds, his heart burning with desire to make more of a difference than he did back in Hogwarts. For the sake of the members of the rebellion, he hoped his words could heal their wounds in ways magic and biology could not, and for the sake of the rebellion itself, he hoped his words could convince potential new recruits to join their ranks.

Back in Hogwarts, charm and wit had been enough to get him through most things. It was because of his ability to woo people over to his side that he was granted the freedom to do practically whatever he'd wanted, and it was because of this freedom that he had grown arrogant. A sense of invincibility had come over the young man-- at the time, he believed that, surely, no one would dare hurt him, his friends, or his school. The world seemed intent on proving him wrong, and prove him wrong it did. His punishment? Nearly everything would be taken from him.

It seemed ironic to Will that he was asking this very group of people to have faith in his words when he could not bear to have that same faith in any of them. Dark circles under his eyes said little about the emotional turmoil that came with all his sleepless nights. He smiled as he spoke, making sure that none of them knew that he intended to stay up that night to re-assess every person's loyalty to the cause.

His thoughts (and his speech) were interrupted by the sound of the secret entrance forming behind his audience. His hand immediately went to his wand, only for him to realize that it was not at all necessary. August was just as important a figure in these meetings as Will was, and the former Ravenclaw was admittedly more than relieved to see him back from duty.

The meeting dragged on for a few hours more as he and his fellow students questioned, re-evaluated, and reformed their defense strategies. When the entrance opened again to reveal another familiar face, staying silent and gesturing to his roommate was all he could do to hide his anger. As exhausted as August was, Will still believed that the Yilmaz boy was the best person to deal with impersonators.

It wasn't long before he noticed the female staring off in their direction. He could feel the blood rushing to his face as he studied her features-- how could she look so much like his former classmate? There were potions that helped wizards copy faces, but gestures and mannerisms were a different deal altogether. The more he looked, the less he believed that she was simply a copycat. For the first time in a long time, he allowed hope to overcome his fear, and he quietly excused himself from the stage, giving the floor to one of their better duelists, before approaching August's table. For the first time in a long time, he felt like he was Will the cheeky Ravenclaw again.

"Raina? Is that really you?"

The imposter shared a great many details with Raina, holding down her appearance and act down to an impeccable performance. However, August was no longer the boy he had once been. While he dreamt of peace he no longer held hope for the dead returning. Especially not after so long, not when he had dreamt of their corpses every day since the incident.

“We shall see,” he mumbled at the prisoner, a hitch in his breath as she cursed at him. When Will also called for the female the Turk found it even harder to keep his cool, his eyes burning as he felt himself fighting the tears that were welling up.

“Revelio.”

A few moments passed by and slowly another feeling set and spread within August’s chest as he realised that Raina’s face wasn’t melting into that of another. He didn’t dare to hope, however there it was. The same look of indignance, the same snarl, the same friend, but aged and angered. She had been speaking the truth. She had returned.

“How?” he stammered before pointing his wand at Raina again, realising that he should unbound her. “Emancipare, release her,” the foreigner quickly ordered Raina’s captors who were quick to let the female go, confused as he was but for reasons different.

“They said you were dead,” August gasped in disbelief, not quite understanding what was going on, relieved that he hadn’t lost quite as much as he thought he had and beyond excited to see his friend. Though none of that could be found in his expression. Slumping back down into his seat the male brushed his hair out of his face, flabbergasted and suddenly exhausted beyond imagination. A load of guilt fell down his shoulders, guilt for surviving, for being weak and unable to do anything to prevent the tragedy of that day. The sudden appearance of Raina and the news that what he had thought to be fact was a lie robbed him of all focus and energy he had.

“Why did they say you were dead? Why didn’t you come sooner? How did you get here?” August found himself asking more questions. Questions upon questions. What else from that night had been a lie?

"Raina? Is that really you?"

Raina jerked her head in the direction of the voice and narrowed her eyes. "Yeah, who the fuck are you?" She couldn't place a name to the face but the other definitely recognised her. A classmate then? He did strike some sense of familiarity with her but before she could remember who exactly he was, August was speaking-- er, more like casting a spell.

After a moment of absolutely nothing happening, August finally seemed convinced. "Dumbass," she grumbled as the ropes fell away and she was released. Some part of her knew she really couldn't blame him for treading so carefully. After all, he handled all this much better than she would have. Still, she couldn't help but to expect more from him, and the fact someone she barely knew was quicker to believe her than someone who was supposed to know her well made it hurt that much worse.

After that debacle, she wasn't exactly in a Q&A mood. "I don't know," she lied. "Can we talk about that some other time? Also, walking, you should try it some time. You certainly look like you've forgotten what the outside world looks like." Her skin pickled as she became more and more aware of the crowd she placed herself in the middle of. Maybe this was a mistake. This was more than a mistake. This was dangerous. Deliberately exposing herself like this, what if this gets back to Celeste? What if she finds this place? Find her? And all for what?! Oh right.

She took a deep breath and gave August a pointed look. "Anywhere more private we can talk?" She wasn't exactly sure how open August was about his little curse, after all.
