GRAND OPENING

Welcome to Pearls of Persia! After five long months since winning WaRP, the realm is officially open for business. Those new to the realm are encouraged to check out the handy Introductory Guide to get a good grasp of the subforum layout and its rules; there is also a realm discord available for those who prefer offsite chatter (and memes). Joining it is not a requirement for being involved in the realm, but it is handy for quick replies and collabs! Have a question that you just can't find the answer to? Check out our handy Help Desk (a.k.a. Ask the Shah) and ask away!

You may have noticed that there are no main sagas currently open for new players. A few things will be started soon, but in the interim, there's a few things players can do. Creating a character thread in the Codex area is the first step towards being able to participate in main and side sagas. In addition, players are more than welcome (and encouraged) to run their own side sagas and 1x1s! Unsure of what stories to start? Take a look at the History of the Ages thread for sample plotlines. All requests for sample plotlines can be made here. And listed below, we have three upcoming projects for this summer.

ENTERPRISE - the next main saga

There is still so much left of the world to be discovered. "Uncharted territory" is a phrase bandied about too much for the burgeoning Explorer's Guild in Cairo, and their scholarly endeavors to map out the entirety of the Middle East has earned them praise from merchants and nobility alike. Their hard work that does not go unrewarded; an enterprising number of members are tasked with mapping out Woki-Tal and its famed Silk road. It appears to be a fairly simple assignment, but there are those from both the Empire and Woki-Tal who would prefer some things to be left uncharted -- by any means necessary.

Players will not only be shown more exclusive lore and settings for the realm, but they'll also be at the mercy of more light-hearted shenanigans from yours truly. Need I say more?

A TURKISH DELIGHT- a sandbox event

One simply doesn't say no to a politician's party. When Governor Canhabibe throws a grand ball at her palatial mansion on the coast of Turkey, colorful characters from all over the Middle East are invited to come. A select few guests are invited to stay the night. The fabulous occasion ends on a high note, but in the morning, there is a surprise waiting on the ballroom floor: the mistress of the home herself, murdered in cold blood. Now the guests become the suspects as a private investigator is called in to find out the truth. Who really killed Governor Canhabibe?

This will be a sandbox event, meaning that players do NOT need to have approved character sheets in order to join. The event will run for roughly a month depending on participation before being closed and put away for the next sandbox to emerge.

In the light of an impregnable empire and its glory, the world as people knew it was slowly becoming illuminated. Not just in knowledge and technology, mind you; before the Earth could be fully conquered by the ambitious Persians, first its people desired to know just what was held within her reaches. Treasure hunting certainly abounded - and oh yes, treasure was found - but exploration was never quite exactly its prime directive. Hunters probed blindly for riches, taking all that glimmered and ignoring the true diamond in the rough: the prospect of unexplored territory.

The Explorer's Guild in Cairo has, unfortunately, not competed well with their grubbier, more bauble obsessed contemporaries. Once Persia's true "diamond in the rough," their numbers have since dwindled, and their funding has slackened in ways the Guildmaster would prefer not to confess to. Yet the prestige of their former glory days has not left them. When the Guild is suddenly tasked with charting out Woki-Tal and its famed Silk Road, an enterprising number of members are tasked with mapping out Woki-Tal and its famed Silk road. It appears to be a fairly simple assignment, but there are those from both the Empire and Woki-Tal who would prefer some things to be left uncharted -- by any means necessary.

It's 1958, and America has become the paradise of suburbia. Forget city living – after two wars nearly back to back, Americans have had enough of hustle and bustle and, well, just plain rudeness. Beatniks? They can hit the road. There's no room for booze and drugs in Mabel's neighborhood. It's back to nuclear family values within the standard household. It's the 1950s, after all, and the country believes it's achieved the highest moral high ground.

Except the country thought the same thing during the Prohibition. Ring a bell?

There are no speakeasies or backyard juke joints to hide the nation's sins this time around, but it doesn't mean the moral fallacies of man have faded away. People have just gotten smarter about hiding their little indiscretions. Behind those plastic, domestic housewife smiles hides a woman with just enough wrongdoing on her hands to put her right down there with the rest of us sinners. And you know what they say – what comes around, goes around.

This story is about the war on sinners…and getting even.

The two aren't mutually exclusive, by the way–war and revenge. One's just as ugly as the other, but war has the makeup of patriotism and morality to paint over its sins. It's how the Americans continue to gloss over the Cold War like it isn't the dirty deed that it is. But revenge? It's a nasty business. It doesn't always get meted out properly, but Karma has a way of getting around to all things eventually.

Karma–have you met her? Not the nicest broad, but her legs more than make up for it. It's the silver lining in the cloud for the poor suckers that have to rendezvous with her agency. She's all about making sure Tom, Dick, and Stanley get their just desserts, and she sure isn't picky about how it gets done. Some people say she's been running her agency since long before the war; her agents seem to keep coming from thin air. Some are ex-government agents, but most are like you – the suckers with a moral rap sheet so long that they were offered a deal: work for Karma and get the red out your ledger. It's either that, or fall back into the same mess that got you tied up with Karma in the first place. Because let's face it…

Hi everyone! I'm Kuno the menace, back with another rp. Bad Habits is a spy thriller with some – dare I say it – supernatural undertones. You'll be playing as a poor agent of Karma, an agency specifically designed to punish folks who need a good, strong dose of comeuppance. Unfortunately your character is working in order to correct a wrong of their own, so no turning your nose up at assignments! You're working for Karma until your sentence is done.

Don't be fooled by the melodramatic tone! There'll be plenty of fun and humor in this pre-Bondesque adventure, albeit dark at times. Players can expect:

Truly, Calypso had misjudged him. It wasn't that the soldier had hit his head too hard, no; the boy was entirely cognizant of his environment. Too cognizant...hence, the subsequent disbelief. The cold, brittle Northern Sea - they could not have been anywhere more different. Yes, of course he thought he was in heaven.

Still. Her empathy did not dull her frustration.

With a long sigh, the Titan released his hand. "A paradise, huh…"

He wouldn't understand any of it then and there. Not the reasoning behind him being there, nor the faint bitterness in her tone at her prison being called a paradise. She took a moment to try and rein in the spite that always rose anew at the beginning of this process, but a frown still hovered on her lips as she looked down, jaw clenched.

"I am...glad. Glad that you are calm," She finally said, gaze rising to meet him once more. "That is good."

It begged the question: would he still be just as calm when she made him understand what had really happened? Perhaps he'd be truly disappointed and leave sooner - which was better. The sooner the men made their inevitable departure, the better; for her, and for them. He was no different.

The heat in her hands reminded her of her obligations, and she slowly raised it, letting Brennan see it.

"I have soup here that I made. I'd like you to eat some, and then get some rest. So you can-"

Heal, she wanted to say. But people didn't need to heal in heaven, right? Or so the talk of the pantheons went. Calypso cleared her throat.
