Kalen Tu

Sena was still booming as ever. She liked hitting things, and she did that to him earlier. As she approached, Kalen made sure he was a bit far away from her. He could take hits but not this time. Battle after battle, hunt after hunt was a common occurrence whenever he did his job – just this time he didn't have the help of his magic as it was spent battling something he wasn't supposed to hunt yet.

Eh, he'd have to ask for some recovery spells, from Ark perhaps. It was curious for Kalen to take an interest in someone, curious indeed. It was all too new and he'd be caught up thinking about it for days on end.

There was another new one Kalen became curious about. He seemed to be a pureblood. He didn't meet a lot of them but it seemed those like him, half-bloods, were fewer than the purebloods. He shrugged the thought away and continued to beg for food silently. He was answered by the woman's grin and an expression closer to amusement than anything else. Kalen tilted his head, face placid.

"Okay."

Len accepted the food and surprisingly, his cheeks tore, his teeth enlarging like a herbivorous creature's but with two pairs of fangs putting a contradiction. Like a perpetually-grinning, torn-cheeked humanoid creature, his passively activated polymorphy dislocated his jaw to eat one sandwich. He grabbed two more and devoured them with ease.

He surveyed everything around them once more. Nothing new. Okay. Still with his jaw dislocated and involuntarily grinning, he did his best to make himself scarce. Nothing more threatening than someone who appeared they'd devour anyone on sight.

It started to annoy Kalen Tu, however. Having episodes of involuntary activation of polymorphy was something he still didn't manage to find a solution to. It didn't help he appeared like he was a serpent with two rows of herbivorous teeth. Peculiar, one of his adoptive clan said. He knew he looked weird, borderline on animal-like to daemon-like.

He stood quietly, partly sated by the woman's cooking. It wouldn't do to have more interaction than this. His little bit of recovered magic was eaten up by his bloody polymorphic spell. He had to conserve what he'd recover until he could be healed.

Kormack, "Black Tooth"

Kormack set his sights on their destination, on the island where the fifth pillar once stood. "Unfurl the sails, boys," he yelled at his crew from next to the wheel. "We make fer the pillar!" With a loud "Aye!" in unison, the crew began moving like clockwork. Kormack placed his hand on a wooden panel next to the wheel with a few magical circles drawn on it. As magic flowed from his hand into the circles, the ship rose ever so slightly up and began turning in place, as though on a wheel, to face away from land. Just as the sailors let loose the sails, the ship fell back in place. The crew member who seemed to be the navigator of the ship performed a spell immediately after, turning the western wind on its head, allowing the sails to fill up.

The Adventuring Merchant

On the deck, the merchant the hunters had encountered on their way to the ship had settled in quite nicely, not delaying a moment in setting up a small, translucent stand atop a magical circle. The merchant's companion fox was curled up warmly next to the bags of merchandise that had appeared out of apparently nowhere. There were a couple of spell books stacked up, along with some weaponry and small boxes labeled "Frozen Creature Meat - Sopia gives you wings!"

During these kinds of downtimes, characters can develop spells, buy items, build swords, or just socialize. After everyone who wants to do something gets a chance to write, I'll have us arrive on the island.

During the trip, Sena had a few things planned out to do. Most important of which was to finish a spell she was working in for some time now. She was just in the final stages of development and had to test it out. Almost all day she worked on her notes jotting down shapes and angles doing calculations and measurements then scrapping it all and starting from scratch. More recently she found the need to be able to either pull herself towards her weapons or to pull her weapons towards her. While simple teleporting spell could do the trick she needed it to work a bit differently, she wanted the weapons to be the hooks her hands the rods and the spell the line. That was the original idea behind the spell at least, a fishing rod but for monsters. Now when she was almost done and drawing the final runes and formulae she needed a bit of help if this were to work as she envisioned it.

The first thing she did was carve the appropriate marks into the shaft of the spear and handles of her blades. Craftsman's Hammer came in handy even though she wasn't making new weapons. She had the summoning spell already memorized and drawn on the back of her notebook. When she finished carving it all she needed was to find someone to tattoo her right hand because she could only do one of her palms and even if she didn't need to wrap the hand up to let it heal from all the pricking she still couldn't do it with her off hand. She needed someone with a steady hand, every spellcaster must have known how to follow patterns and draw but for a tattoo, she needed someone who wouldn't go off the mark even once. She couldn't decide between Ark and Kalen since they both seemed to know what they were doing. Ark had a bow but Kalen was working those short blades so he must have had dextrous fingers. Unable to decide, she decided to just ask them both and if they both agree she can have both hands finished at the same time. "Alright boys, I need some help." She said presenting them with a tattooing kit and a diagram sketch of her palms and the markings they needed to make. She offered a palm to each of them forgetting to ask if they even wanted to help and just said. "Get to work, I need these hands back in action as soon as possible."

The ship cruised the calm waters between the neck of the gulf and the island at its heart. Ark quickly started work on a spell after buying some ink and paper from the oddly well stocked merchant on the ship. For the next couple of hours, he started drawing up possible formula circles for the spell. Once he had finally drew a formula he was satisfied with, he pulled out two arrows, and started drawing the formula on one of the arrowheads with the tip of the other. Other than the circle itself, all the strokes were rather fine and straight.

He raised the arrowtip to eye level, inspecting the formula closely. After a few seconds of scrutiny, he reached for his bow. Just as his hand grazed the wood of the bow, he heard an order he appropriated to Kormack for a split-second. He turned to Sena, and then at the spell formula she had prepared. "Huh," he responded before locking his eyes on the tattoo kit. He looked back to Sena as he pulled his hand back away from his bow and spun the arrow around his fingers to keep his hand busy. "That's a pretty nice setup," he said after a quick glance at the tattoo kit. He picked out a needle from the kit and stared at it. Already forgotten her request, he continued "Did you make these yourself?"

Meredith Cwenburh

The sight and feeling of riding a ship capable of sailing through the air would never quite get old. It helped to raise her morality after seeing yet another person gobbling down her carefully made food without much thought. It was a little disheartening to see that she could have just as easily put a few slices of meat between bread and received about the same result, but she supposed that it at least meant she could save her spices for herself. Kalen Tu proved to be fairly unexciting as far as company went, breaking out the bad manners mouth to eat sandwiches at rates she didn't even concieve of. Hm.

Well, you can't win them all.

With the journey well-underway and other crew members busy crafting new pieces of their arsenal she decided it was about time she made some modifications to her style as well. Though she didn't have any spells or weapons in mind... she was in the market for a new Sopia! She eyed the merchanise of the mysterious merchant merrily, mirthful at the multiple mouth-watering Sopias available. There was a small hitch in her plan, the fact that she carried no coin on her person. Yet.. if this merchant proves willing.. she could provide something even more valuable than gold.

It was time to get bartering!

She approached the merchant started the trade, " A fine stock you have there! Luckily for the both of us I am in the market for a new sopia. I'm searching for strong beast... not too bulky, but tough. Something swift and light on it's feet." They went back and forth for a while, working their way through the stock to find something that suited her tastes. Eventually they settled upon something that was satisfactory. It was the sopia of the shear-claw reaper. It was a cat-like monster that was most famous for it's scissor-like claws which could shear off a whole limb clean of the the body or, more famously, a head. This combined with it's acute senses made for one deadly critter. She had been meaning to improve her own ability to more effectively deal with groups of weaker enemies, so this seemed to best fit her need.

She haggled wisely with one of her key resources, information. With the help of aerial mobility and some pretty decent cartography skills she was able to produce a few choice maps. It was an easy sell, especially considering that it would make for a very nice bartering chip with these sailors. After shaking hands and finishing the deal, Meredith walked off and began thawing out the sopia for consumption.

~~Sena Atlaxys~~

Chuckling at his question with a deep sounding mumble Sena spoke up. "Don't all Hunters make their own spells?" She asked with a smirk and a raised eyebrow. "The ones worth their salt at least." Adding that little part elicited a booming laughter from her almost mocking any Hunter that doesn't work with spells. It wasn't uncommon that they just couldn't wrap their head around it and would simply rely on others making up spells and teaching them, but Sena was too prideful not to work her own magic into it. "I have plans to enhance it further down the line by making it be able to channel elements as well. I was hoping that I could get some help at the Pillar but..." Gazing up to where it was supposed to be she sighed shaking her head. "Surely someone would be able to help." There was a confident smile on her face quickly turning into a signature smirk as she nodded to her palms as if to say, 'get to work ya lazybones'. "Unless of course one of you two thinks they can improve it right away?" She said it almost mockingly. It was hard to make a spell as complex as that, to be able to have a spatial effect through unholy magic and also channel elements so she didn't expect any one of them to know it.

"Come on, Len. Get to work, don't make me slap you again. You scratch my back I scratch yours. I can promise you a date right now if you'd like." She was looking for ways to get him to snap out of it and give her a hand with the work. That said most of the boys and girls for that matter around the ship weren't bad looking at all. She noticed some of their previous companions were no longer present, but that was just life. "Come on Len-Len, Lenny." Almost mockingly she cooed at him. "Come on, liven up, I'm sorry I hit you before. If you want I can kiss it as an apology." She needed to pass the time somehow and for whatever reason, she figured teasing Kalen could be interesting.

Kalen Tu

Kalen remained near non-existent until they boarded the other ship. It was an experience to be on a ship again. The mild and unusual sensation to be floating on water was nothing new to him now but it was still a novelty in his mind. Even if he had a spell that practically let him fly, this was a different experience - for one, he didn't have to spend his magic.

With the steady recovery of his spent magic, he needed to figure out a way to conserve it. His spells didn't take much magic to begin with but he wanted to become more efficient at spending magic and using them effectively during combat. He decided fine-tuning the spells would suit him best so he started working on modifying the tattoos on his hands. He made a few, minute alterations on them and observed the results. There wasn't much change but he could feel that it was... lighter somehow. He grinned and appeared more like a monstrosity, with his jaw still dislocated and teeth overexposed.

The loud female hunter came lumbering to him and Ark with a demand. As always, she was big and appeared like someone who didn't take now for an answer. Well, considering the way he was hit even with him being worn-out, he wouldn't be surprised that Sena was someone like that. With a silent shrug, Len approachd and looked over the formula. Sena explained what she wanted done and Ark did his part too.

Len, however, had a different idea. "Let me stab you."

Reaching into his coat, he retrieved one of his two remaining stakes. He waited for Sena to agree. He couldn't help properly if he'd just try to do the formula by hand. He needed the huntress' own magic for that, he knew it would work best if it's done that way. Of course, she wouldn't know it and even comprehen what he was getting at if he won't speak out loud - this, he failed to consider.

While waiting for her response, he eyed the ship and observed. There was something always hiding and he wanted to make sure there won't be a repeat like the other ship experience earlier.

His focus on examining the ship and its surroundings was interrupted when Sena started annoying him with repeated name-calling and her for-babies-only tone. He didn't like being treated than anyone else but him, and he certainly wasn't a child. Not a minute later, he let out an involuntary snarl that was made louder by the fact that his unwanted polymorphy was still there.

Great.

Ark Petyr

In the next few hours, the ship cruised to the island. The crew half-furled the sails. The ship slowed down, drawing Ark to the side of the ship. At first glance, one would think the world was calm as ever, perhaps even a little more beautiful for the warping effect the broken pillar had on the sky. However, upon further inspection of the shoreline, Ark noticed there were dozens of watchful eyes behind the trees. What seemed first like rocks on the beach could soon be recognized as Creatures, and the dark shadow they cast, as blood.

The ship docked at a small town by the sea. Kormack and two of his subordinates walked down the street leading inward to the quiet town. A low and constant gnawing noise came from inside one of the buildings. After looking inside, Kormack made a gesture to the ship. The ship's helmsman turned to the crew in a subdued panic. "Keep your wits about! Creatures are 'ere," he announced. Ark vaulted down to the docks from the head of the ship, his bow in hand. He looked around, inspecting the empty streets. The buildings seemed desolate, some of their roofs caved in. The only obvious sign of any life was the blood mixed with mud along the rocky paths with no bodies to associate to.

The crew started to move through the ghost town. Just as they arrived at the wide, open square, a muffled scream came from the back of the group, but left nothing in its wake but blood on the ground where a sailor stood but a moment ago.

Hopping off the ship Sena walked alongside Ark, her dual-hooked spear aimed at the ground as they explored the streets. With how relaxed the voyage here was such a sudden shift in tone was almost too jarring and she didn't seem to grasp the true tension of the moment just yet. There was a bit of a smirk on her lips as they explored despite the clear evidence a slaughter took place here. It was only when the sailed from their group went missing that she seemed to get her head in the game and started drawing a formula on the ground with the tip of her spear, urging her companions to step into the designated spots at the edges of the five-pronged star within a pentagon. Those who did so would find communication much easier and quicker now that they needed not voice their thoughts to each other and merely will it into another person's mind.

"Together now." She said or rather thought into their minds her 'voice' clearly distinguishable from their own thoughts as well as other 'voices'. Her spear held high now, in both arms with the shaft right in front of her chest as her eyes narrowed looking for the signs of movement with her eyes taking on that particular glow that her spell on her back gave them. Her breathing was rhythmic and calm like she was in full control of the situation, which wasn't the case but at least she was in control of her own body. "Len-Len, do your thing if you haven't already, we might be getting company." During the travel, some time was spent talking with others about their talents and particular styles of combat, to better gain an understanding of what to expect from them. If someone else deigned to take charge she would let it happen, but if once more as on the ship no one did she would have to be the one to step up.

"Stop treating me like a child. Thank you." He exclaimed as he proceeded on stabbing the huntress with one of his magic absorbing stakes. As soon as he did it, the glare Sena gave him got distorted a bit, as if she was feeling pain.

Getting stabbed was fun sometimes but he knew not all people felt that way. So as soon as the stake absorbed enough magic to be engraved onto the weapons and modify a magical tattoo for Sena, he removed the stake and started working. Without another word, he cast a glance to Ark and pleaded with his eyes to heal the wound.

He tinkered with the magic circle and mixed Sena's magic into it, modifying several parts of the formula, altering them to work better. He also tried adding a few strokes here and there, a test to the modifications he made on his own formula to improve the efficiency of the spell without taking too much magic. Even if the magic formula was not his, he knew that if this modification worked, it would get him closer to preserving large amounts of magic to use for other magic spells.

Sometime later, they arrived at the shore and Kalen quietly left the ship while keeping an eye to any threat. As the signs of trouble began to be more apparent, the captain hollering a warning and Sena's voice echoing in his head, he sprung into action and using hunter's pockets, launched a weather altering spell - effectively establishing a territory around him and his new companions.

"Done. Now what?"

Ark Petyr

As the crew members and soldiers reached for their weapons, the wind came to a complete halt, and everyone except the Daemons, and Kormack froze in their place. A new dim source of light appeared up in the sky, seemingly out of nowhere. Before anyone could make sense of anything, in a rising pillar of light that reached up to the new object in the sky, Kormack vanished. Five more pillars littered the horizon as the Daemons were left alone in the ghost town with time itself stilled.

Before Ark had time to be puzzled, another one of the crew members' torso vanished, leaving a quite upright pair of legs in its place. The Creature's features became clear for a split-second to the attentive, revealing a relatively small lizard with a large maw, resembling one of the most common Creatures, dubbed the Crawler for simplicity, in all but ability. The Creature faded into obscurity as quickly as it came into view, a power never before seen in Crawlers.

Ark swiftly slid his foot across to one of the edges of Sena's star with an arrow nocked on his bow. "I can feel three of them around us," he uttered out loud before speaking through the link Sena had crafted between the group of hunters. "Let's worry about the crew later. First..." His voice trailed off as all three Creatures' appearances became clear, their movements slowing and their skins hardening. They circled the group, stalling. Ark loosed his arrow at one, which stuck onto its thick skin, but seemingly without doing much damage. As its skin started to grow translucent once more, the arrow sticking out of it remained clear as day, pointing to where the Creature was as it rushed towards Kalen.

It was a creepy sight and Sena, much like all the others, was on edge as she could be without freaking out. She was much more suited to hunting than being hunted, better at charging into or at the enemy rather than waiting for them to reveal themselves. She kept herself calm with breathing exercises and memories of her training. These kinds of situations could decide between life or death and she sure as hell wasn't gonna let some cowardly creature takes her down. Three. Ark said there were three of them, which meant they weren't outnumbered and that the people of this place were simply ill-prepared for this brand of predator. She readied her spear and took a defensive stance ready to wrestle and tussle with the invisible opponent if she had to.

Luckily for her Ark's arrows had a useful side effect, what they lacked in stealth they more than made up for as markers and right now she stared at one charge right at Kalen. She wouldn't want something bad happening to her favourite victim so she stepped in front of him and dig in her heels bracing for impact and intent on skewering the beast by using its own momentum of the charge against it. One the creature was impaled she would waste no time reaching for her shorter blade to try and sever the spinal cord making it a quick kill, she only hoped this wasn't like that Rhino that had chitin as hard as stone. "Brace for it, team, we need to keep cool about these guys. Don't split up." She sent out a mental message and readied herself for impact.

"This feels uncomfortable," said Kalen as Sena's order's echoed in his head. However, he didn't have enough time to be affected by it with the rapidly approaching creature filled with malicious intent, the intent to harm and maim him.

As the territory became dense with his magic, it was easy to keep track of everything within it. Yet with the amount of magic used to create it, he'd have to move fast and dispose of this creature. His spell was far from perfect and the creature seemed difficult to handle. Then came Sena, spear in hand intent on shielding him and taking the brunt of the creature's approach.

He remained silent and expanded his awareness, there were slight distortions in different areas of his territory and with Sena's spell, tracking the Crawlers seemed to expand more into faint receiving points - the other hunters. He was still not used to having something quite similar yet so different lingering in his mind but he shared his sight. With his mind finding the best way to deal with the other two, he briefly thought of laying down a few Vector arrows to control the other Crawlers' destination. He left the idea hanging as he focused on the near 100% invisible Crawler charging.

The first Vector appeared right behind Sena, assuring that she would have a least a magical cushion should she be overpowered by the creature. This should help her, he thought absently.

As more time passed, his territory got denser, more saturated with his magic that if this turned into a drawn out battle, he'd have to focus on one thing and abandon another. He needed to choose, and fast.

As Sena pivoted and stuck out her spear, a heavy force pushed on the spear shuffling it left and right, with Kalen's vector cushioning the blow. At first, what happened wasn't obvious through sight alone, but as she drew and slashed her blade at the air, the invisible Creature's colour returned to its pale skin, now lifeless with its mouth and neck drenched in blood. The Crawler's skin quickly got soft, enough to fall off the spear on its own and fall on the ground. The two others circling them shivered and slithered backwards.

"If they get away, they could cause us a lot more trouble," Ark said through the link as he formed a light blue arrow on the string of his bow, quickly loosing it at one of the two Crawlers, pinning it through one of its half translucent hind legs, stopping it for a moment. "Kalen, let's keep this one from getting away," he suggested as he twisted his fingers to nock another arrow. He looked over at Sena, and the other Crawler who was trying to make its way around the group and back to its ally. "I'll support you two from here."

How perfect it must have seemed, her new spell finished just before this encounter and her oldest trick in the book capable of showing her if not the entire beast at least glimpses of it as it moved. Optical camouflage while a useful trick was something she was familiar with since childhood when she was hunting octopi and cuttlefish with her hands, it was one of the reasons why the very first spell she created had to do with visual enhancement and ability to perceive pray no matter the condition. Hearing Ark say they would tackle that other one she smiled faintly as she licked her lips and taking one large step threw her spear with the power and accuracy of an Olympic athlete jamming it, hopefully, right in the back of the beast at which point she would dig her heels in and call forth the chains from her hands to the weapon pulling it along with the beast back towards her.

Oh, what a marvellous thing it was to be prepared even without knowing your quarry. She kept herself focused and if finding that she could not pull the creature towards her she would instead do the obvious and pull herself towards it while unsheathing her blade and proceeding to gut it while trying to avoid what she could only assume were razor sharp claws and teeth. It was a safe assumpting as almost anything around had razor sharp something. Unless it relied on blunt force that is.

Kalen Tu

As the creature took its last breath, Kalen did his best to keep track of the battle. He stood still and ever so slightly, resembled a humanoid pillar - a gargoyle keeping watch. He grasped the situation at hand and they seemed to be doing well against the creatures. With one of them ended, the other two retreated and in effect slowly exiting Len's territory.

Ark's reminder came as the push he needed to focus on one target and nothing else. If he was correct, ending this creature while the others dealt with the remaining one was the best course of action. So far, nothing slithered or stalked in the distance. If this was wrapped up, they could get some rest from all this chaos.

"Okay," he nodded as he wasted no time approaching one of the creatures. Ark's arrows whooshed past him, doing what he said he'd do. Sena launched her spear and got to work. It's his turn.

Ending the creatures were a priority and while his sight would be completely useless to the others now, he was able to ascertain the best way to kill it in one shot. He hoped it had magical reserves, too. Nothing beats hunting a creature supplying him free mana. He continued rushing toward the creature, gradually increasing in speed, clutching two of his remaining three enchanted stakes. He didn't have the chance to modify the enchantment into a more damaging spell but he thought skewering the Crawler in two parallel points on its body and oh-so carefully mutilating its vital organs would be enough.

A few steps before it, Kalen launched himself in the air and with a silent grunt, he thrust the pair of stakes toward parallel points of the Crawler's flank.

As the Crawler Sena was facing tried to slither away from the scene, the tip of her spear latched onto its inner organs. The confused Creature clawed at the dirt as its body moved back. It was lighter than most other Creatures of a similar size, letting it fly through the air with Sena's pull. It quickly turned and opened its mouth to try and kill its assailant, but its belly opened before it could muster the force to snap its mouth shut.

The last Crawler moved forward with enough force to break the arrow pinning its leg to the ground, but stumbled again as Kalen's two stakes pierced its skin. Ark loosed his arrow just over the Crawler's head. The wounded Creature moved to sneak away, before Ark vanished and appeared behind the last arrow he threw. With a swift stab of the knife, he pinned the Creature's mouth to its jaw. As it tried to open its mouth and move back again, the lethal wounds Kalen had managed to open widened, snuffing its life out quickly.

Ark plucked his arrow from the ground. He stabbed his knife into the dead Creature's back and cut it open. He dug his free hand in as well, struggling with something in its chest cavity. "A-ha!" he burst out victoriously. He plucked out the blood soaked mass and tucked it in his shirt over his neck, but it seemed to disappear rather than fall.

He glanced around at the frozen world around them. The towering strayskin was nowhere to be seen, and everyone else was still simply stuck in place. The new object in the sky almost resembled a ship as it hovered over the remains of the pillar. "We're out of any immediate trouble, but… What should we do?"

The moment the beastie she was fighting stopped moving Sena looked towards the duo and the monster they were going after and noticed they too were finished with their work, it was around that point that she noticed they were alone with no one else in sight. Her hunter's eyes carefully scanned the environment, created for the explicit purpose of tracking and finding hidden or predatory beasts. The only thing she could see however was Ark digging around the guts of the crawler which reminded her that Sopia doesn't last long after a kill and prompted her to dig into her own prey and absorb the essence right away by crushing the disgusting organ in her hand. Using a piece of cloth she cleaned out the blades and sheathed her weapon while shouldering the spear. "You tell me, Boss. This whole situation seems way too bizarre for my taste." She glanced around at the missing and frozen folks before shaking her head. "Maybe we should head for the pillar, or what remains of it, see if we can figure out what brought it down and if there's anything useful left behind." It was as good a suggestion as any in her opinion. She had no clue as to what happened to the others and working without proper information was not something she wanted to do.

Looking at the two fellow demons she raised an eyebrow stoically. "You two okay? No injuries?" The creatures that attacked them seemed somehow too simple and weak to take down this entire place which concerned her, it seemed they all got through it without a problem but then if that were the case what could it be that destroyed the entire port. She was never the one to let her imagination run wild, this wasn't the section of the world she was familiar so she couldn't really say what it was. "We should probably not linger, whatever you decide we should do boss do it quickly, I have a bad feeling about this place."

Kalen Tu

Kalen dislodged himself away from the creature. He needn't take any more sopia for now. He's content what he had and he didn't think it'd be of much help to him. He's thinking of changing the way he fought. He'd need to hold out on taking in new sopia.

Still overloaded by his enhanced senses, he sat down and took deep breaths. The controlled weather was still there but the rain was gradually ending. In effect, his ability to sense and know where everything was also washed out with the last drops of rain. His magic lingered in the air and his unique magical signature, slowly melded with the air. Disappearing as if he'd never twisted the environment to suit him.

He threw a cursory glance at his companions and they did well for themselves. They didn't get hurt and disposed of their enemies easily. It was all good.

Yet it wasn't.

The world was frozen and nothing else was going on - if one counted frozen individuals and missing companions as something of an event - then no, nothing happened.

Picking himself up, Kalen ran his stake into the creature again and squeezed the last bits of mana he could get. Moments later, his thirst for mana nearly quenched, he approached Sena and the creature she ended. "Do you mind if I drink this one?"

One of his stakes was pushed back inside his cloak. He crouched and examined the creature. Yep, it won't give him anything useful to him. Maybe they could hunt for various kinds of creatures on the way to the pillar. A little minor quest, so to speak. Realizing he was about to impale Sena's bounty, he turned back to her and stared - patient for an answer.

Still thirsty, although not as much, he just went and did it. With a quick stab, the stake was in and mana was drained out of the slain creature. Kalen slowly recovered his spent mana and even gained more than he did before. He's near peak performance after being slapped around by a monstrous sea creature and then dealing with the small group of Crawlers.

"Shall we go?"

Ark nodded in agreement with Sena's last remark. "It might very well be a good idea to leave without wearing out our welcome," he said, looking up at the large, distant object in the sky hovering over the broken pillar. He slung his bow on his back and started walking down the muddy path out of the village. "The pillar sounds like a good place to see what's going on," he said in an effort to convince himself.

The path out of the town was less subtle about its destruction. Brutalized corpses littered the grounds with claw marks clearly different from that of the crawlers they'd encountered in the town square. The blood had mixed with the wet mud over the hours, giving it an odd, dark crimson hue.
