The year is 2782, and humans are jointly exploring the stars. With some successful colonizations on Venus and Mars, Earth is expanding its reach. Helping make this happen, is an international corporation dedicated to advancing humans in every way possible. They managed to help facilitate healthy colonization through technology, education, and more sustainable crops.

Last year JeanCorp spent 2.4 billion dollars on advertising and recruitment/job drives. All of it centering around their shiny, new biochemistry division that went to work immediately. That's where you come in.

For about 4 months now, JeanCorp has been working on formula to bolster a human's physiology. Naturally, they called it Coretonic and decided to try and get a backing for it's testing. When that attempt failed, they took a different angle.

They brought in terminally ill patients to guinea pig their latest creation.

YOU were one of those chosen. Waking the next day, you find your ailment is gone and you have some... extra things going on with your body and not all of it is good.

The doctors will take care of you, probably.

RP Rules (Including but not limited to): Try not to be a douche. (This applies to all situations.)

No godmodding.

No "perfect" characters.

No taking control or killing other characters unless you have the player's and/or my permission.

Yes, your character may die. You are welcome to make another (assuming you aren't dead because you were being a jerkface.)

There will be depictions of blood, guts, and butts. You have been warned.

Speaking of butts, relationships are okay, but no heavy stuff.

Also take a look at this if you need more info.

Character Guidelines:

You will be playing "fresh recruits" of the Jean-Strain Initiative. Your new abilities will be put to work in a manner that will require you to have a mask.
  • 1 Character Per Player (May Change)
  • If people have a different character idea that doesn't quite fit in this little group, shoot me a pm, and I'd be happy to try and work something out.
  • The serum had quite the surprise on your body, you will be assigned a random ability and a random minor physical mutation. (You won't grow 5 heads I promise.)

I will be adding more rules and guidelines as needed.

Alice.jpg
Full name: Alice Graziella Jackson (Will respond to "AJ," as well as "Al," but she hates being called "Ali")
Gender: Female
Age: 30
Sexuality: Pansexual
Nationality: American, Italian
Languages spoken: English, and a bit of Huttese

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE
Height: 5' 6"
Weight: 146 pounds
Figure/build: Average looking height, hourglass shape, small builds of muscles in her arms and legs, medium sized bosom, enough meat on her bones to keep from being "too skinny".
Tattoos: None. However, she's always wanted one.
Piercing: She wears a ring in her right nostril, and has her ears pierced.
Scars/distinguishing marks: Self-inflicted scars that resemble old scratches and burns can be seen along her upper arms, and on her thighs.
Preferred style of clothing: Comfort is her priority here. She prefers shorts, or gym pants of some type, paired with a graphic t-shirt that relates to her interests. When it's cold, she'll put on one of her many hooded sweatshirts. Likes long-sleeved plaid button-ups for cold weather, as well.
Frequently worn jewelry: Earrings, nose ring, candy bracelets, a silver ring on her right ring middle finger that resembles an octopus tentacle. Sometimes, she wears a locket with a picture of her parents, to remind her of simpler times anytime she feels sad and misses them.
Costume: Alice wears a full-bodied black catsuit made to be durable, but comfortable. It's designed to be flexible with her fast movements, but it's also sturdy enough to protect her against surface damage until the material has had its limits (or unless someone has a weapon that's just superior to what she's wearing). White striped patterns stretch from the shoulders to the legs, somewhat resembling sound waves. They can make a person's eyes feel confused and sore if she's bending and moving in different ways to make the design distracting to them. Al favors light footwear that's the same color as the stripes, with well-fit gloves to match. Around her waist, she has a utility belt that offers tools to help in different situations. To protect her identity, she wears a black domino mask over her eyes, and a black half-face mask she'll pull down only when she needs to aim a sonic scream at someone. She also has a white cowl with her costume, the hood of which she is almost always wearing.

HEALTH
Smoker? Not tobacco.
Drinker? Only occasionally
Drug User? Which? Frequent use of marijuana to help manage pain, the early symptoms of Huntington's, her declining mental health, and her social anxiety. She uses it in varied ways, such as smoking it, consuming it, and using it through lotions. Al makes good use of CBD oil, as well, for times she wants to relax without being high.
Addictions: Admits to a pain addiction that she is actively fighting against.
Allergies: Aside from seasonal allergies affected by changes in the weather, pollen, etc, there are none.
Any physical ailments/illnesses/disabilities: She has early signs of Huntington's Disease, and she has carpal tunnel syndrome in her right wrist. Along with mental disorders that include chronic depression, GAD, and social phobia. She also might as well be blind if she's not wearing her glasses or contacts.
Any medication regularly taken: She uses pain killers for her wrist, as needed. Also takes Benadryl for allergies and as a sleep aid, as needed.

PERSONALITY
Likes: Poetry, cooking and trying new foods, comedy (movies, stand-up, joke books-- all of it), reading both novels and comic books, animals of all kinds, coffee.
Dislikes: Being in public, when people and things are too loud, hot temperatures, uncomfortable clothes, hospitals, spiders.
Fears: Living miserably as her disease worsens, heights, scaring people off with her 'weirdness', dentists, drowning.
Favourite colour: Red.
Hobbies: Video games, knitting, writing, taking naps, playing piano/singing, decorating cakes.

CAREER
Level of education: High school. She's done some college, but never finished her degree.
Former job title and description: For about six years, she worked as head decorator at a bakery called It's in the Mix. It was owned by a sisterly friend of hers named Patricia, who saw potential in Alice's natural art talents. Providing a place to practice, and all the necessary tools, she trained Alice to be her head decorator within the first year of her employment. When there was a lot to do, she'd boss around a small team of decorators there to back her up. Other responsibilities included filling the display case with freshly decorated goodies, fulfilling special cake orders on time, and making the occasional delivery.
After quitting for a short while, she returned to the bakery to work the front, where she dealt with sales, kept the place clean, took orders, and arranged the display case.
Backstory: At age 33, Naomi Jackson was diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease. By that time, her daughter, Alice, was 11 years old. Learning to accept the harsh news was difficult for both of them, as well as Leonardo, the husband and father. This quickly turned into one of the many stresses that the unstable family of three dealt with on a daily basis.

Since the beginning, home life wasn’t always the best for the Jackson family. Naomi was a narcissistic person who manipulated her husband and daughter when she felt a situation was out of her control. Leonardo had anger problems that could sometimes turn into abusive outbursts; especially if he was drinking. At those young ages, Alice dreaded both being home and going to school. She turned to the unhealthy coping method of self-harm when she reached middle school, believing that to be her only escape from the stress at home, and the bullying she dealt with at school. Being unable to stop this habit in time would eventually turn it into a real addiction. In both places, people sufficed to make her feel weak, powerless, and meaningless. She also lived with the constant fear that she could develop Huntington’s Disease in her adult life.

Alice was 15 when her parents finally agreed to separate. Their toxic relationship could only keep going downhill. At the time, Al couldn’t decide who she wanted to be with, so she spent the following two years going between the two households. In that time, she learned the two of them were equally terrible people who would never, ever be happy. They became unlovable, pushing out many loved ones from their family and friends circles. That included Alice herself. Her father became less interested in her, sometimes even going so far as to scare her off when he was in a bad enough mood. Her mother could only keep spewing negativity about everyone and everything, which kept sucking the joy out of Alice’s life. Seeing her mother’s mind deteriorate over time made it all the harder. She had to start helping her with daily routines, remembering to take medications, do errands for her from time to time… But also the narcissism got worse. So much about her personality in general got worse. Even though that woman made her miserable, Alice didn’t have it in her to deny the care she clearly needed. She still loved her mother, and she pitied her.

Eventually, peers from high school convinced her she should focus on her own hopes and dreams. To her surprise, it pained some to see her struggle like she was. Alice was absent from school more often, having more marks on her skin, and losing weight really fast, a group of concerned teachers and students stepped in to help. With the support of these caring few, she managed to finish high school on time, and even got set up for college. She did all this knowing that her mother was in the capable hands of caretakers, but she would still visit her at least a few times a week. Alice also dated a nice boy for a little while, until he had to move out of state to the college of his dreams.

For two years, she took college courses. She was determined to pursue her dream of being a museum curator. When she was 21, she ended up dropping out. Her grades were failing and her depression was killing her drive. Much of it came from losing touch with the people who supported her in the first place. Not to mention the fairly bad ways her romantic relationships ended in these first rough years of college. The events all caused Alice to blame herself, and to start being more guarded around people, thinking they might end up being terrible people, or just end up abandoning her at some point.

A few months down the way, she was discovered by a nice woman about the same age as her named Patricia. She had just opened a new bakery in town and was on the search for crew members. The two of them met through a dating app, learning over a couple of dates that they enjoyed each other’s company the way two sisters would. Agreeing to keep the relationship that way, a professional relationship was soon to come as well. Patty noticed that Alice had art talents and asked her to try decorating a cake for fun. Long story short: she demonstrated enough potential to be trained for a job as head decorator. Until she turned 28, she maintained this position. She had to eventually retire because her carpal tunnel syndrome reached too bad of a point.

There were other reasons, too. Not long after her 26th birthday was when her mother was taken by her disease. Losing her came with more pain than relief, especially since her father was getting more aggressive with his verbal abuse on account of it. She had no choice but to lean on Leonardo for support because she would otherwise be homeless. Part of her was also hopeful that he'd somehow be different than before, because of how much time had passed.
At first, she was confident she’d find a new job and save enough to get her own place again. Yet, it never happened. Finding a new job was harder than she imagined, and her dad was constantly on her back. She had to eventually leave him behind for good, and was taken in by Patty, who helped get her set up with a front-counter job at the bakery. During this time, too, was when she discovered the usefulness of medical marijuana. She can behave more like a ‘normal’ person when she uses it, and it served to be helpful with pain management. Enough that she could decorate cakes from time to time. For a while, she was feeling more like her usual self. For as sad as Alice may be deep down, she aims to be someone who exudes positive vibes, and cheer.

She still lives with Patty because she wants to and is welcome to; and she loves her cat and her dog. Alice pays her fair shares and doesn’t have to be alone. This especially became important when she went to the doctor to get tested for Huntington’s Disease. Ever since she was 11, she was reminded of what would come with her 30th birthday. When she tested positive, her life spiraled out of control all over again. Her depression worsened especially when she started having symptoms. People had to actively check on her because they worried she would endanger her own life. Only once was she almost successful. Through the support of a close few, and her therapist, she managed to get back on her feet. She realized part of the problem was to due the medication she was prescribed. With that problem solved, she could resume life as normal as she could possibly manage.
Some hopefulness was restored when she came across an advertisement for JeanCorp a few months later. They were a new name with new ideas behind it. Ideas where a person like her could doubtlessly fit in. Since she had a miserable life of pain and suffering to look forward to, she didn’t have to think twice about signing her name to the contract. Feeling more at ease with the direction her life was going, Alice found herself to never be so sure of something before. With the way her life's events lined up, this had to be a sign of some sort.

Miscellaneous: 1: She is at peace with her mother's death, and the sad state of her dad's life. Alice has learned that life can change people, sometimes for the worst, and she must learn to move on rather than dwell on it.
2: She tried a drug called Tetrabenazine to help with her involuntary jerking and twitching, but had a had reaction to it, so she stopped fairly quickly.
3: She sees a therapist weekly, sometimes twice a week.
4: Yes, she will make you a birthday cake. All you have to do is ask politely.
5: Alice will take up the routine of dying her hair black, to better match with her costume. It'll be cut to just slightly below shoulder length, too. She does it with the idea of self-change in mind, as well.

SERUM EFFECTS
Random Power: Sonic Scream
Random Physical Mutation: Her toenails grow so fast that it could be a detriment if she doesn't clip them once a day at the very least.

Hobbies: Dedicated fantasy/science fiction enthusiast/Enjoys bar hopping

CAREER

Level of education: High school graduate.
Former job title and description: Gerry made a modest living as a grocer on the weekdays and a forklift operator at a nearby pier during the weekends.

Backstory: Gerry Lewitski's life was defined by his looks. His oafish, big features made him seem slow or aggressive at best. It was not unusual for strangers to make rather insulting assumptions about his mental acuity. Gerry absorbed every insult, every slight, and every look with a placid stare and rarely came to his own defense. He wasn't raised to be a fighter, he was raised to be what his mother called "a passably decent child", and such children were ideal when meek. His upbringing set him up to be the perfect patsy to anyone he came across. Lovers, friends, and coworkers seemed drawn to him if only to take advantage of him. After enough years of abuse Gerry suffered a mental breakdown which lead him to trying marijuana for the first time. He felt… better but not fixed and the pain still lingered.

Gerry doesn’t know how long the other guy had been around. His memory gaps began in his early twenties and it took him a few years to really notice changes. It was minor things at first, a jacket he didn’t remember buying or a bruise he can’t recall the source of. After a time he noticed his knuckles would be painted with fresh bruises every few days, occasionally his face and body fared the same. He couldn’t understand how he was getting hurt like this and it terrified him. It was a note on his kitchen counter that made his world change:

NAMES FRANK.
IM THE BRUISES.
I GOT U.

In a panic he contacted his mother who naturally took over all thinking for him. The note and bruises were dismissed as buffoonery. In her doting arms they missed Frank, but they did find a tumor. Inoperable and fatal. His mother, controlling as she may be, loved her son and insisted on a treatment at any cost. They moved quickly through well established treatments with no success in sight. With few options left they turned to more exotic treatments.

Miscellaneous: Gerry triggers into his Frank personality when put in what he perceives to be socially difficult situations. Typically confrontational situations, but just as likely if witnessing animal abuse (particularly dogs), or if rejected by someone he admires.

Random Power: Can grow and shrink at will.
Random Physical Mutation: Almost unbearable smell

Casual / relaxed. So some baggy pants and a shirt / top. Sneakers. Whatever. He doesn't care much as long as it is comfortable. However if he has to, mostly for going to the university, he can style up quite a lot. His style for the university is mostly professional or casual professional, where he skips on wearing the suit jacket and wears neat jeans.

    Frequently worn jewelry
A ring that used to belong to his mother. He wears it on his left ring finger. He will only take it off when he has to clean or cook otherwise never.

    Costume
His costume is inspired by the traditional Chinese clothes and robes. The clothing is tightly wrapped around the torso and falls like a robe down around the legs. Underneath simple black pants are worn. The strong kevlar like material is decorated with beautiful silk to make it appear more pleasing to the eyes. The sleeves are, unlike the rest of the costume, very wide and broad (mostly so to more or less keep things in proportion with his long fingers). Junjie has chosen for a black default color with sea blue / green decoration fitting to his ring. He wears a chinese opera mask to cover his face, identity and even gender, only moving it partly out of the way to feed on matter. The mask is made up in the same sea blue / green colors as his costume and ring.

    Former job title and description
Parttime Bartender and Host at the Red Flower
The Red Flower is a very well known gay club that also offers some more private services in the back rooms. Junjie only works as a bartender or a host for the casino that is part of the club. He used to dance (both pole and cage).

    Backstory
Junjie is the result of a drunken night between Malaysian bartender and an Chinese bussinessman and one broken condom. By the time his mother knew she was pregnant, his father had already returned to China. So he grew up with a single mother and mostly raised by his grandparents so his mother could work two jobs to keep a roof above their head and food on the table. It wasn't until his second birthday that his father returned, again for only a businesstrip. Finally his mother had a change to tell him, and honestly his father took it pretty well. He promised to pay child support and come as often as he could. Other than that, Junjie grew up rather average.

His real break through came when he started school. He was a smart boy and from young age on he managed to keep up high grades, despite often missing school due to being sick. If there was the slightest flu going on at school, he was quickly out for a week, when other children only had it for a day or two. The reason for this however wasn't found out until he was fifteen and his mother died of pneumonia. His father -having fallen in love with his Malaysian bartender- demanded that the doctors ran some test. And quickly it was found out she had HIV. Junjie was tested and the results were positive.

As soon as his grandparents found out, they kicked him out of the house, supersticious as they were. Not that they had ever approved of his existence, or their daughter throwing her life and marriage possibilities away to raise a bastard like him. His father was quick to step up and took him in. School arrangement were made to give Junjie the time to adjust to a new country, new place and new language, while also having to deal with the dead of his mother and a terminal illness on top. He came back strong though, only missed out on one semester and was immediately back to top of his class, determined to make his mom proud.

He graduated with flying colors and in the top five of his school. Despite knowing that the doctors didn't give him time past 30, some even saying he would be lucky to make it to 25, he didn't give up on living a normal life. He started attending one of the top law school. Though his father paid for schooling, treatment and housing, he wanted to have a parttime job as well. Junjie simply wanted to live a normal life. A friend of him got him a job at the Red Flower when he was 21, and that was also how Junjie found out about his sexuality. Though he is open about it to his friends, his dad doesn't know yet and he hasn't officially been out of the closet.

  • Random Power
    Matter Ingestion
Junjie can eat and consume anything, without any harmful effects.

    Random Physical Mutation

CAREER
Level of education: High school diploma
Former job title and description: Waitress/Bartender-During the day she would waitress at a local place. On some nights, she would bartend at one of the popular gay clubs close to her place.

Backstory: Rose had a pretty normal childhood. Her mother and father loved her and they spent a lot of time together as a family. Her father was in insurance and her mother was working at a local disability clinic. They moved through each day with happiness and joy that was till her mother got sick. Her mother ended up getting breast cancer. It was tough from then on out for them all. Eventually, when rose was 10, her mother passed away.

This was hard on Rose. Her mother was her best friend and she missed her dearly. Unfortunately though, it took a different approach on her father. He became angry. He started to drink a lot and curse more than ever. He had to get a second job to take care of all the bills that were starting to pile up. When Rose was 15, she was coming home from a babysitting job she had gotten to try and help her father out. She could tell that he was different this night though. He had drunk more than normal. She hadn’t gotten her shoes off and through the door fully before he had grabbed her by the shirt. Next thing she knew, he threw her across the room. The next thing she could remember, was waking up the next morning on the floor of the living room. Her face was bruises and bloodied. Her ribs were killing her. She could barely stand or walk.

Over the years, the beatings got worse. She did her best to cover up the marks on her face but sometimes they were so bad that she couldn’t leave the house. When she finally turned 21, she had saved up enough money to leave. Her father had fallen asleep and she took this chance to run and never look back.

Rose is now 25 and working two different jobs to keep herself up. She has a small apartment, nothing to flashy as she can’t afford. She loves her night job at the club being a bartender. It brings her joy and she likes the girls there. Her happiness would soon end though. Rose ended up getting sick as well. Just like her mother, she got cancer, only it was in her brain and lungs.

Fearing the death that would soon come for her, she hide from the world. Waiting for the cancer to take her like it did her mother. Until she saw an ad for “people with sickness.” The ad was looking for sick people to test out a new drug on. What did she have to lose? She would die reguardless. She decided to check out the place and hope they could help her.

And we're filling things out as if they're pre-trials, correct? (So, still living with their illnesses)

Yeah, that's fine if you want to wait and yes pre-trials.

The other advantage of the design is that the horizontal armor strips shift out of the way when Chase shoves bones up through his skin, and through the armor, resulting in far less need to repair and replace bits of his costume than would typically be necessary given the nature of his ability. His spine is covered in thicker, slightly less flexible plates, and he wears a pair of thick boots. His face is covered by a simple full-face mask that disappears under the laminar-esque plates, with tiny-holed mesh over his nose and mouth to make breathing a bit easier. Disguising his eyes are a pair of what seem to be aviator goggles, probably put on under the mask itself.

The majority of the costume is black (due to the argument that dirt will be less obvious on black), accented with scarlet red. The lenses of his goggles, and the mesh on his mask, are both scarlet. As is every other horizontal "plate" on his arms and legs, while his boots are flat black. There are also patches of scarlet over his ribs and sides.

  • Career
    Level of education:
    Some College (Biochemistry)
Former job title and description: Retail Sales Associate. Helped customers and stocked shelves, until his muscular dystrophy advanced to the point where it hurt too much to do and Chase found himself frequently incapable of standing for as long as he had to.

    Backstory

Chase was born into a upper middle-class family, and was diagnosed with a form of congenial muscular dystrophy nearly from the moment he was born. The medical care wasn't a huge burden to his family, with his mother being a paralegal and his father a civil engineer, so things were pretty well covered. But it did cause stress, especially as he was actually his mother's third child. Shaun was 12 years old and Chase's half-brother; their mom had him when she was 16 and still in high school, so he had spent most of his time living with their maternal grandparents. Jett was only a year older, and a bit of a handful in his own rights.

But Nikole and Ernest Dreiser tried to make it all work out. Shaun came around more and played with Jett, helping keep his younger sibling occupied while his parents focused on trying to encourage Chase to meet his milestones.

It only lasted about two years before Nikole had enough. She couldn't handle the two kids living with them and her job. She walked out on Ernest, Chase, and Jett, divorcing Ernest shortly after and entirely giving her rights up to the children.

Ernest worked out a deal with Nikole's parents in order to keep them in Chase and Jett's life, and Shaun in their's, but from that point on was completely bypassing Nikole. The only way things ended up working was with Ernest leaning heavily on both Nikole's parents and his own, but they managed.

Fortunately, the disease didn't seem to affect Chase's brain at all, although he did have impaired sight which was pretty much corrected by glasses. From a young age, Chase was taking steroids to try to combat the muscular dystrophy and his diet was always high in protein in an attempt to encourage further building of muscle. With the help of his braces, Chase was ultimately able to have a semi-normal childhood with his siblings despite everything. He fell more often, of course, and was a little slower to get up and move, but for the most part, he did it.

After high school, Chase went to college for about two years before dropping out. He took a year off, tried to go back, and dropped out a second time. This time he got a job working for a retailer on the sales floor. At least until he suddenly began going down hill.

His disease had been mostly controlled until this point, but he quickly found that he was confined to bed or his chair more often; that the braces weren't doing nearly enough to help keep him stable.

He had, over the years, been keeping an eye on what Jeancorp. was doing. His attempts at going to college had been in the field of biochemistry, after all, and when it was announced they were looking for ill patients to test a new cure on, Chase was among those willing to give it a shot.

Without telling anyone, he slipped out of the house while his dad was at work and signed himself up to be a guinea pig.

@Cerulean
I had my whole CS done (except for the looks) and then my internet decided to fully crash on me and I lost EVERYTHING! So I am quite pissed at this moment. I will still try to (re)write as much as I can, but I am afraid I won't be able to finish by CS until tomorrow.

Aww man that sucks dude! My sympathies. Don't worry about rushing to get the CS done, though. There is still plenty of spots open. =)

Speaking of which, I will be pming those of you who have completed you CS with your mutation and power. If you wanted to wait on your costume design to model it after your power, that's fine.

Thank you! I am just so mad. I had his whole background completely worked out and UGH. Anyway, I should have everything up by tonight (except for background perhaps)

Also will you be making a discord for this rp?

Had not thought about that honestly, but I certainly can.

Would everyone like a discord?

If a Discord gets made, I'll join it.

Edit: Also, sheet updated with Power, Minor Mutation, and Costume.
