~ 19 ~ Female ~ Earth Bender ~
~ 5'1 ft ~ 110 lbs ~
Weapons of Choice: Dahlia only keeps a knife on her person as she believes weapons are for chumps if you have bending. That knife is solely for the purpose of slicing food that needs to be sliced.
She does keep a pouch on her person, much like a moneybag. However this contains many assorted sizes of rocks and pebbles and the uses as projectiles when the time asks for offense.
Personality: Most people would call Dahlia a down to earth sort of person, whether intended as a pun or not. Having lived as a street rat most of her life has cultivated her thinking into being realistic and easy to approach... depending on who you are. A downtrodden person in need will find her rather kind, friendly and even gentle; the opposite could be said when she is face by people who in her opinion are pompous idiots with more money than brains. Humour and mischief are part and parcel with who she is, no matter who she is dealing with, and any attempt to hamper that may cause her a little annoyance. One wouldn't go as far as calling her sensible, but she is a no nonsense sort and doesn't appreciate people making a big deal out of nothing.
History: Although Dahlia can't remember much of a home save for the streets she grew up in, she did indeed have a home and loving parents when she was a toddler. Her mother worked in an inn whilst her father used his spruced up boat to take couples on romantic boat trips. It was a good life and for while they weren't affected by the unrest that was spreading through the rest of the Earth Kingdom. However, the year Dahlia was born was when Kasai Village was formed. Dahlia's parents knew it wouldn't be long before their home village was overrun by Fire Nation soldiers. While it was heartbreaking, her father decided it was his duty to head over to the Capital, from where he eventually joined the Rebel Armada.
Dahlia and her mother had managed to escape what is now known as Sekitan when the Fire Nation attacked, but not without cost. They had barely reach the closest safe city before her mother collapsed from prolonged neglect of her injuries during the attack. Alone and with no one to help, Dahlia stayed by her mother's side as the latter passed away, unable to find any food or water for herself. She was on the brink of death herself when she was found by a couple of street rats who decided to take her in.
Knowing nothing of her mother and father, she grew up in the dirty alleyways, stealing and pick-pocketing or relying on others kindness. It wasn't long before she realized she could move rocks around with actually picking them. Further investigations told her this was called Bending. She spent a good lot of time watching other benders and copying their moves, discovering she could do what they did and even more. It was during one of these self training days when she caught the eyes of an Earth Bender named Heran. He was headed further into the Earth Kingdom, ready to join the Rebel Armada. Seeing her skill, he realized she was wasting her talents where she wouldn't be able to do anything by herself.
Convincing the now sixteen year old wasn't a hard feat. She had been living on the streets due to necessity, not want, and the same could be said for how she earned money and food... she didn't actually enjoy stealing from others, and the punishment was never really worth it. With the promise of food, clothes and shelter, she at last left the city of her childhood and headed out with Heran. Whether she wanted to make a change for herself or for the world at large, it didn't quite matter- in the end she figured she'd end up doing both.
