Fathoms Deep

Fathoms Deep is a Sci Fi themed RP based around a deep space exploration starship called the Aphelion and its crew. They work for a corporation called Vaughn Astronautics in the year 2898 - or they did. The crew recently went under cryogenic status that would keep them asleep for 8 years until they reached their destination. Vaughn Astronautics is a herald of its field and they have bases far beyond the expanse of civilization. These forward stations are placed out in the black in the hope of finding new homes for the ever growing population between both humanity and A'vir.

The destination of the Aphelion? Lao S75 in the Ki star system. The Deep Space Station called the Leviathan went dark nearly a year before the Aphelion was scheduled to recover anything they can from the base and discover just why it went under. There is no hope of recovering life - no one could survive in that base for 9 years, but they can be honored and their remains brought home to their families.

That is the mission the Aphelion has taken on. It is a harsh one, but it shouldn't be difficult. Lao S75 is a fairly safe planet despite being 94% water. The greatest danger you should face is the crushing depths of the oceans themselves. The scientists have also taken note of a strange, serpentine creature they call fiends. They've been registered as mostly harmless, but kleptomaniacs. They'll steal anything shiny that they can see.

Perfectly safe, right? Well, mostly… Vaughn Astronautics sent a warning to the Aphelion that the last transmission the base sent to them was… concerning. It spoke of an unidentifiable creature of great size and mass, but nothing else. The entry was incomplete. The creature - called subject zero might not even be real. The scientists on the base have been sending reports of hallucinations months prior to the entry.

Nothing that big could possibly exist, right?

• The Basics

  Welcome to Fathoms Deep! It's a science fiction horror based pretty far in the future. It's got a lot of your standard sci-fi stuff - starships, aliens, cool weapons, and more - but with my own twist on them. The biggest difference in my opinion? Space travel! Most stories have it so it'll take a few hours, or days, or even weeks to travel at FTL to new planets far away. In this universe, I took a bit of a different approach. Even with FTL, it takes over a month to reach nearby star systems and years to go beyond that. Society is combined into three star systems with an ever growing population. They are running out of space to live.
  
  That is where Vaughn Astronautics and its Deep Space Exploration program, which includes the Aphelion, comes into play! Scouting teams are sent to potentially viable star systems, interesting objects, or places that have shown signs of life - ancient or otherwise. So far, most come up empty, but as of today 9 Deep Space Bases have been established and two are well on their way to becoming functional colonies.
  
  The Leviathan is not one of those. Frankly, Vaughn never believed it would become a colony. The scientists were only stationed there to study life on that planet and figure out if they would be suitable for life on other planets. It had turned into a dud for most part. Most fish were not edible and the habitat requirements were too great. Deep Space Station 5 was on the verge of shutting down. Had things not gone south, the Aphelion would have been sent to bring them home instead of their bodies.
  
  I will warn you now - there will be violence, gore, tragedy, and perhaps even some existential dread. You'll find that's a general theme to all my rps. I can never write anything happy.
  
  The rules are those you'd find anywhere, really. No godmodding of any kind, no perfect characters, follow the site rules, and don't bully or harass people ooc. As for posting, I would like at least two paragraphs for each post and one post every two weeks at the least. Right now, I have a 3 character limit in place.

• The Basics

  As I mentioned before, there is a three character limit. However, these characters can be anything you want from the provided options. You can make any of your characters either a Human, an A'vir, or a hybrid of the two. They may also be from one of three governments - The Caliphate, The Hegemony, and the Terminus. There will be crew roles you can fill which I will list below. The rest is up to you. I'm fairly open to unique ideas when it comes to characters so long as they don't break immersion, they are not too powerful, and they make sense. Remember that they are mortal people.
  
  I will be making a skeleton crew NPC group. You may write them as much as you wish to but you must follow three rules:
  

  1. Keep their personality. Don't make them evil if they're not; don't make them kind if they're not.
  2. Do not put them in harmful scenarios without my permission.
  3. Don't write an NPC already in use by another character.

I'm afraid I will only be accepting ten people, not including me, into the rp currently. I might open it back up if I feel the crew of the Aphelion can handle more people, but I make no promises. Currently, I have four spots of the ten reserved.

I ask that if you want to make any important characters, please reserve the role first! I don't want you to spend so much time make a great character only to come back and have it filled by someone else.
