WELCOME

Hello! My name is Spectre (Or Sam, if you're feeling familiar) and welcome to my code dump. Now featuring less blindingly white text boxes! I mostly make the bbcodes for shits and giggles, though I've gotten quite good at it over the months and months and months I've been working on doing so. Kind of a calming practice for me, at this point. Feel free to look around, though I make no promises on organization. I'd love credit/notification if you're planning on using something of mine.

If you're looking for my good and/or completed codes, this thread here has that in a far more neat and orderly fashion. c:

A couple of requests:
1.) Don't post, unless you've asked permission or I said to.

NICKNAME/S:

Hamil - used as general shorthand
Hamilkon the Survivor - Mercenary title. Legend has it that Hamilkon's career as a travelling mercenary began after he was pulled from a wrecked ship by Poseidon himself. Considering how impressive the tales of battles he's taken part in and the jobs he's pulled off are, that legend is almost believable.

DESCRIPTION:

If it isn't the long, endlessly curious cat-like animal who's so very fond of perching on Hamil's shoulder to observe and sniff at passerby that catches one's attention, perhaps it's the large bow he carries on his back that's every bit as permanent a fixture of the mercenary's appearance as his creature companion. Or, maybe what catches the one's eye first is Hamil's own eyes, a striking green-brown hazel so neatly complimented by the warm brown of his skin, color deepened by long days spent on the ocean and under the sun. His eyes are certainly his most noteworthy physical feature. Pretty and expressive, with a certain sort of solemn wisdom to them, his eyes showcase the truth of whatever he's feeling at any given moment, regardless of what emotion he's trying to paint across his face. Another noteworthy feature, though not necessarily a physical one, would be his accent. Hamil is quite good with languages and familiar enough with Greek to know it well, but there's still a certain otherness about his voice that points his origins toward the city of his birth - Carthage. That said, he's done well at blending in with the local customs, especially when it comes to clothing styles, though it's difficult to miss the odd expressions that cross his face whenever he encounters a practice he hasn't seen before.

First impressions of Hamil tend to be positive. Not good, exactly, but positive. He's respectful and professional, and capable to boot, in addition to being entirely unflappable. In the midst of a battle, a storm, or an extremely embarrassing conversation, he remains calm and collected. That's a useful trait in his line of work, as one might imagine, but when combined with his concise manner of speech, Hamil tends to come across as stern or distant, or quiet at the least. Not exactly a set of traits that earn a person friends. Contacts, sure, but rarely friends. That's helped none by the fact that it's rare for him to spend enough time around others to win them over with his surprisingly witty sense of humor or his well-honed listening skills. He tends to move around too quickly to make real connections, and that's just the way he likes it. Hamil's suffered enough tragic loss in his life that he does his best to avoid making friends with others. A lonely and cautious life is what he strives for; his "ideal existence" is one that is as safe and as maintenance free as possible.

Unlucky for Hamil, "safe" and "lonely" go directly against two of the more powerful elements in his personality. As much as he tries to keep his distance and steer away from danger, he's subtly and undeniably attracted to it. As much as he avoids connecting with others and quietly pushes people away, he's unable to resist the temptation to meet new people and learn what makes them tick. As much as he likes to pretend he isn't a man who needs or even wants friends, he's a deeply loyal and committed person who chases after the same intimacy he so frequently denies himself.

A young father, and eventually a widower, Magon did what he could to take care of his only son and teach him the life of a sea trader. He made sure Hamil could swim, sail, shoot a bow, anchor a ship, read a wind, navigate by the stars - all the necessities. He passed when Hamil was thirteen, crushed by the weight of fallen cargo in an accident, and Hamil regrets his death.

Hamil's memories of his mother are vague, at best. He remembers umber skin and dark eyes, soft and kind, and he remembers the softly but fondly reprimanding tone she used when scolding his father. Mostly, though, he remembers losing her. She drowned when he was six and her death inspired a persistent fear in him.

FRIENDS:

Ashara - Animal companion
Hamil's ferret. She's just over three years old and she's been with Hamil for most of her life. She's a great hunting companion and excellent at scaring small game out of hiding, though she's far too little to chase after larger prey. What with her strong independent streak, it's common to see her go off on her own for a time. Hamil doesn't worry about it too much; the little polecat always returns in a timely-ish fashion. Her favorite napping spot is tucked into the folds of Hamil's unused hood.
Others
Hamil isn't a man with many friends - he'd rather have a useful acquaintance or a business contact. More helpful in the long run, he feels. Not to mention that he doesn't get nearly as broken up when an acquaintance or contact dies.

ENEMIES:

Hamil doesn't make many friends, but he doesn't make many enemies, either. Without strong political views or an attachment to the future of Greece, he hasn't even declared a faction he likes more than the other.

EXES:

The list of relationships Hamil's had over his life is a short one, but most of them were fairly long term. He's yet to get married or settle down, but he is a man of commitment, and it'll happen eventually. Probably. At some point. When he finds the right person. The very, very right person.

I understand that a letter of this nature seems an unusual method of communicating this, but in the present circumstances, it is a necessary precaution: I cannot risk direct communication at this time. We are reaching a critical situation and action must be taken. As you read this, I am quietly assembling a group of scholars, mages, and soldiers who support the cause, and I must ask that this be kept secret, at least for now.
I regret to inform you that the rumours are true: the Heart of Aetheria is dying.

We are now beginning to see the effects of our actions those years ago, and the situation is dire. Reports from coastal cities are steadily increasing, bringing messages of failing crops and emaciated cattle. Fatalities are on the rise as magical instability increases- something I'm sure you have already seen. Where possible, these deaths are also being attributed to rebel attacks and, otherwise, ignored. They are refusing to see what is plainly before their eyes, and Aetheria and all her people are going to pay the price.

As you know, fifty-one years ago, the Empire forcibly removed the guard stones from the Tree. In those fifty-one years, the Tree has been unable to enter dormancy and revitalize itself. The argument was that no dormancy meant limitless prosperity-- but our research indicates that without dormancy cycles, the Tree can neither regulate magic nor support prosperity in the land.

Without dormancy cycles, I am confident the Tree will die.

No matter how many times he is confronted with evidence, the Emperor refuses to listen. I worry he is so blinded by the threat of revolution and repercussions of what it would mean if our research if true (which it is), he refuses to see the truth. The more we press him to take action, the more obstinate he becomes.

Two weeks ago, our most outspoken scholar, Magister Avelissa, was sent to Portwatch to "observe the conditions there," and we have not heard from her since… I now fear the worst.

The crystalline guard stones removed from the tree have been destroyed, save for the sample specimens that remain in our study. I plan to take these pieces, journey through the Forest of the Ancients, and return them to the Tree. Experiments with the crystals and bark samples taken from the Tree have given us reason to believe that even the smallest piece of crystal may act as a catalyst and restore what we so foolishly removed.

This will not be an easy undertaking-- especially when the Empire discovers what I am doing, as I have no doubt they will. A strong and proud witch, Numeria was born in Rome - though her mother was Hekate, the Greek goddess of magic. Despite her godly lineage and her desire to celebrate her mother, she felt no obligation to travel to Greece. Instead she founded a cult of Hekate in the city of her birth. Years later, a casual encounter with a soldier ended up resulting in a years-long affair and two children. Marcus took little part in their raising, and to be honest, Numeria preferred it that way. Octavia and Decimus are the most precious things in her life - she's done her very best to take care of and raise the pair without their father, but her cult and status as a witch put her children into an awkward position. They grew up accordingly.

The clothing item one will hardly ever see Ollie without is her leather duster; it's a deep reddish brown, elaborate and well made, and Ollie claims she killed the rancor whose hide went to making it. Regardless of whether that story is true, the duster certainly gives her a distinctive look. It's also surprisingly sturdy and offers more pockets than even Ollie could possibly use. For protection purposes, though, she still layers it over a reasonable set of plain mid-weight armor that can stand an actual chance against blaster fire and vibroblades. Her entire getup is definitely not built for hot conditions, but Ollie's willing to make a sacrifice of her own comfort for having The Look and not getting shot. Or stabbed. Or both.

Ollie's signature gun is her blaster pistol, an aged but trusty weapon with 2 barrels and an overclocked capacitor. She tends to pair that blaster with a scattergun, short in range but deadly - and effective against armor. Though she'd be reluctant to trade her own weapons out for just about anything, she is a consistently good shot with most ranged weapons. Melee weapons, however...she's got the general concept - hit foes with the pointy/heavy part - but she sees little point in learning anything beyond that.

Born and raised in sunny Malibu, California, Julian Fields is a city boy through and through. With an A-list actor for an uncle and a family from old money, he never wanted for much as a kid - though that came with its complications. His parents separated when he was young, after which he hardly ever saw his mother, and his father's work life kept him far too busy for him to develop a strong relationship with his child. All the household staff in the world couldn't fix his parents' absence.

Even so, Julian did reasonably well in school. He was a smart kid, plenty sociable and athletically gifted; his father encouraged athletic pursuits enough that he ended up going into wrestling when he was twelve. Prep school whirled by in a rush of competition victories and completely PG parties, and he got into Harvard on athletic merit as a legacy student at age eighteen. A political science major put him on a track toward law school, like his grandfather, but Julian wasn't destined to be a lawyer.

MMA first drew Julian in when he was a sophomore. One of his buddies at the time was really into the sport, and ended up convincing Julian to come to an MMA gym with him while the pair were on spring break. A full contact sport that required athleticism, discipline, dedication - MMA was everything he'd wanted in a sport. Just like that, Julian was hooked. Just like that, Julian was wholly and completely wrapped up in MMA. He was twenty-three when he made pro, twenty-five when he became the Bantamweight champion, and after successfully defending it twice, lost the title when he was twenty six. One major injury, then another, then a third. He ended up with a three straight streak of losses and reluctantly decided that his time was done.

After he left the sport he'd so passionately followed for so long, Julian only felt hollow; his years of training, his victories, his accomplishments, all that work, all for him to retire at only twenty-eight. Seven months of somber reflection later, he realized he couldn't stand his Vegas apartment any longer. It was at 3 AM one week after that epiphany when he first started looking at houses - an impulsive decision made by a tired mind - but Julian stuck with it. Two weeks later, he was the proud new owner of a ranch house in Arkney, Missouri. Odd place for a city boy to move, sure, but the area was beautiful and the house was a gorgeous old fixer-upper. Something to work on while Julian tried to work out what he wanted to do with the rest of his life.

A strong and proud witch, Numeria was born in Rome - though her mother was Hekate, the Greek goddess of magic. Despite her godly lineage and her desire to celebrate her mother, she felt no obligation to travel to Greece. Instead she founded a cult of Hekate in the city of her birth. Years later, a casual encounter with a soldier ended up resulting in a years-long affair and two children. Marcus took little part in their raising, and to be honest, Numeria preferred it that way. Octavia and Decimus are the most precious things in her life - she's done her very best to take care of and raise the pair without their father, but her cult and status as a witch put her children into an awkward position. They grew up accordingly. In spite of that, Des considers himself close to his mother and misses her strongly.

A soldier who happened to fall in love with a mysterious and ethereal witch, Marcus had little involvement in the lives of the two children he had by Numeria.
