Vampire Race
How much like humans are they? How do they differ? They are humanoid in physical appearance. Their eyes are usually a gold or green color, depending on which stage in life they are at, as well as how in control of their bloodlust they are. Vampires have natural hair color (i.e. black, brown, blonde) and fair skin. Their fangs are in place of their canine teeth and never protrude past their lips unless provoked by, most commonly, bloodlust or anger. Vampire women stand at about 5'5" average, whereas men stand around 5'10" on average. Most don't usually grow past three or four inches of average height, but it is possible depending on genetics. They are also a predatorial species, growling and hissing, defending people they love, or when provoked, get pretty vicious inside and out.
Do they have children? Unfortunately for hell, the vampire race cannot reproduce. That is why vampiric beasts are created- scientists create and inject a diluted yellow, honey-like serum into the vampire race, turning their eyes blue and allowing them to become stronger and more advantageous. Even a small prick can let out a low growl. It is the price that every single vampire pays for selling their soul to the devil because they were once human.
Can they turn people to vampires? Yes, vampires can turn people into vampires, but the process is long and painful- potentially fatal depending on that person's current health, as well as other factors such as the vampires themselves (i.e. their level of control, their eye color, etc.)
What is their lifespans? Vampires live an average, in general, 175 years. Including the vampire caste system, it differs greatly for each stage, newborns living up to around 50 years, if they haven't been able to fully take control of themselves and live long enough to move onto the next stage. The same thing goes for fledglings, except their average lifespan is 125 years old. This means that a golden eyed vampire (after a fledgling with orange eyes), or an adult vampire, has an average lifespan of 175 years and an ancient vampire has a lifespan of 300+ years.
What sort of powers or strengths do they have? In general, aside from each vampire subset powers, every vampire possesses heightened senses, including hearing, smell, taste, and vision. They can see in the dark, have enhanced condition, and semi-immortality.
What is vampire culture like? There are three main covenants, and within each of those covenants, there are houses. Every vampire, except for those bred between human and vampire, are aristocrats. Their basic peerage consists of a baron, lord, duke, and earl, as well as a male leader and his wife who oversees the covenant. There is also a grand council within each covenant, complete with the leader, right hand man (serves as the leader's proxy during his absence), banker (in charge of finances and history records), artist (in charge of covert activities and information gathering), law ordinant (supervises law enforcement), as well as the commanders for both naval and land-based war, and a combat advisor.
Vampires intermarry within the covenant more often than marrying outside of their own covenant. This is because there is a need for substantial "power equality" amongst each of the covenants. Unequal power, for example, an emotionist and senser getting married, could lead to many suspicions that those two may be plotting something nasty together. Vampires are a generally skeptical and cunning society altogether thus, two vampires marrying from two different covenants is restricted. Men use their will, females use their wiles, and more often than not, it is the other way around.
Even if the four main covenants are rivals with each other, they do not express so when meeting with each other, especially for the entering of a newborn or a grand ball. When around each other, they are quite altruistic, socially concerned, and politically engaged. In fact, it is more common for houses of one covenant to plot against each other than two separate covenants plotting against each other. Meat is the primary part of a vampire's diet, as it helps promote distinctly better vision, stronger muscles, teeth, and helps fight off infections and diseases. They love red wine, and have it frequently with their meals, more specifically, during dinner time and lunch time, due to the health benefits provided to them.
There are also outcasts in vampire society, consisting of bastard children, sons and daughters of fathers who disowned them, as well as newborns who were unable to control themselves, and thus, need to be killed, as well as those who've committed crimes. Outcasts are not released of their crimes in anyway, nor are they given any rest to it. They will always be ridiculed and looked down upon by their betters, no matter whether they were a duke, baron, or earl, female or male, 425 years old or 126 years old.
What are their weaknesses? How do they die? Since every vampire is semi-immortal, they are still susceptible to disease and mortal wounds. Regular vampires die most often by a stake through the heart, though ancient vampires require oakwood to be staked successfully. Vampires are also susceptible to emotional crisis just like any other human, and may potentially commit suicide because of the death of a family member, or something else. Vampires that have turned into mindless monsters, caused by the vampirism disease, are handled and killed by vampire hunters- who, instead of killing them with a stake through the heart, take a silver bullet and shoot them right through the heart. Vampires are also susceptible to the sun's rays, as well as decapitation and werewolf bites.
How do the people of the world view vampires? Speaking in general terms, because vampires are supernatural and beyond scientific explanation, human society does not believe they're not real. There are people who believe they're real anyways though, and thus, other people view those people as abnormal and out of their right mind.
How do they view humans? Vampires from hell each view humans differently, but it's most common for vampires to have humans become subordinates through their own self-interest.
Are they from this world? How did vampires comes to be? Vampires were originally created from Lilith's children, Lilim, and a human. When the children were born, they sacrificed them to Lilith, who recreated them and had them "reborn" as vampires in a physical humanoid appearance. They are not from this world, but from hell and the result of Lilith and Sammael, both the progenitors of vampires.
Vampire Disease
How did this disease start or develop? Lilith got bit by a bat-like creature from hell and unknowingly spread the disease through physical contact. That is why Lucifer's minions are always on the loose, running, finding, and killing the savage beasts who aggressively depopulate Lucifer's children.
How does it spread? The disease spreads through physical contact, such as drinking or touching infected blood and sharing bodily fluids, such as saliva.
Does it only affect humans? Other creatures? It can affect any kind of creature, including dogs, bears, and rabbits, but it most commonly has only spread throughout the vampire covenants and throughout the human race. Unfortunately, the spread through vampire covenants has substantially weakened the devil's reserves and therefore, he is seeking an alternative.
Is there a cure for it? As far as everyone knows, there is currently no cure for it. The best thing that hunters can do is capture, obtain, and handle the monsters.
Do the infected become a mindless monster? Yes, the infected do become a mindless monster if not handled and killed within 24 hours. The infected become a psychopath with a taste for blood, no matter whether animal or human- even themselves if they can't find anything to sustain their blood-driven madness, which is very rare (considering this is set in an urban community and there are people everywhere). The most violent behavior engaged in, and ever seen, is cannibalism. They commit mass homicide through slaughter as well as disfigurement through the twisting and tearing of limbs.
What sort of things does it do to the body? Make it stronger? Weaker? As noted above, it makes the body stronger, being able to twist and tear humans and animals apart limb by limb. It basically makes the vampire, or human, engage in almost unstoppable violent behavior.
Vampire Caste System
Duke/Duchess: ruler of a duchy
Earl/Countess: ruler of a county
Baron/Baroness: ruler of a barony, or administrative division (i.e. town or city within a county)
Humans
Humans are completely unaware of supernatural forces. The only ones who do know of the supernatural forces that lurk are the members of Red Veil: Disciples of Christ.
Red Veil: Disciples of Christ
Red Veil is a secret world-wide organization and they operate under military-like structure. There are different kinds of divisions, as well as different areas inside each division that each member is assigned to. Over the years, as each member gains experience, they also gain the chance to be promoted. Red Veil Army is divided into four main factions including priests, exorcists, hunters, and healers.
Priests are known for performing the white arts and possessing divine sight. Exorcists are known specifically for purification with divine element manipulation as a side power. Hunters have the ability to possess divine weaponry, as well as retrieve, save, and restore souls from damnation. Healers are known specifically for healing the wounded through spirit, prayer, or voice, as well as mysticism.
General, lieutenant, captain, and strategist are all important roles in Red Veil. A general commands the whole army, lieutenants give orders from the general, captains maintain smaller groups in each division, and strategists help come up with worthwhile strategies, no matter who the Red Veil is up against. Soldiers also play an important part, as they are the primary offense and defense in every single battle.
