Well I figured, since it is a vampire story, that the world is fictional. But with the use of 'horse people' I figured I could draw inspiration from alternative historical genres. So China isn't the China we know but a fictional version of it, as is the pseudo europe. So you can push reality as you see fit since we already have a fictional place called Lescatia filled with vampires. I just used China and europe cause it was easy and not the focus of the story.

His career as a smuggler is just that. A career, that doesn't mean that he's going to be sneaky about it in a Kingdom of Vampires who clearly have their own rules of what's considered 'illegal' They eat people afterall. But in other countries outside the Kingdom, the rules are different and in their eyes he is a crook. In Lescatia he just doesn't have to hide it. And smugglers do still transport other goods besides the illegal stuff. So within the kingdom he's just a vampire with connections just like the other vampires probably have.

As for whether or not he's accepted among the nobles. I didn't think the Prince was so welcoming. It's cause I thought that in a hostile place (for civilians) it's already difficult to survive so the population may just be enough to keep them from rebelling against the vampires and at the same time feed them. If stranger vampires keep showing up then that means your vampiric food supply diminishes as well, no? And then also the question of; what kind of person is this newcomer? Will they play by the rules? Are they gonna cause trouble? Etc. For the distrusting I was thinking along the lines of that.

As for his home, if the Prince is so gracious to give him a home, even better! \o/

But otherwise, are the characters okay to use? >.>

Olwen's early childhood was spent helping her parents with little jobs around their respective shops with her elder brother. Sometimes they would play, but not often. The Smith children were taught to keep their heads down and just go about their lives. They were especially taught not to pay much attention to anything involving the great lords. This was something Olwen took greatly to heart.



Sadly, Elyn passed away of sickness when Olwen was 12. Things changed greatly after that. Olwen threw herself into helping her father raise her much younger sister. Beric took off a few years later hoping to see employment away from the border town. They heard from him for a while, but eventually contact stopped. Her father always talked about him like he was just missing, but Olwen is almost certain he is dead. The young woman became her father's apprentice. The years of keeping Elaria out of mischief and learning from her father were busy and hard...but Olwen endured. Her father died after her younger sister married at 18 to a young sheep farmer.



Olwen has now taken over the blacksmity shop full time as her parenting duties are now done. She's well satisfied with her life, although she has a bit of a reputation for being unfriendly.

Age: He appears to be in his early 30's to mid 30's but is a 200-ish year old Vampire.

Birthplace: China

Current Residence: He moved to Lescatia about 2-ish years ago. With his own entourage (nameless npc's) he restored some old ruins somewhere near Border City.

Faction:

• Has sworn allegiance to himself. The Black Cicada (Symbol of his business)
• Vampire Nobility (I don't think he's fully accepted by the Vampiric nobility considering he's only been here for two years? It might make some interesting tension. )

Appearance: The pale Yongrui stands confidently with his 5 '10 height. His lean and muscular build is often seen wearing long, dark, sometimes flowing robes with black leather boots to match. Outside, his broad shoulders are draped with an oversized, dark fur cape with a large hood; as someone who travels a lot this is ideal for shielding himself from the sun, or to camouflage his scent with that of decay and blood which always lingers in the thick fur. His braided straight, dark hair comes down to his tailbone with a headband to keep his long bangs out of the way. Beneath the heavy fabrics lies the tale of abuse, gang wars, and piracy. Not a body part is spared of the reminders that this man refuses to die. And all fall prey to his devilish charm with dark eyes that flare red when the predator comes out.

Biography:
His childhood is as predictable as one would expect from someone with his career choice. He was born to a prostitute in China, father unknown, so it wasn't hard to imagine that in a place like this he would get into the habit of causing mischief; theft, blackmail, and voyeurism for example. With age he became a favorite to some, a nuisance to others. So after his mother caught the peeping tom with the girls again she decided it was time he left.

The then young pirate lived a harsh life of abuse and violence, sailing the chinese seas where he learned to be ruthless towards his enemies first and his friends second. Because in a world where the rivers flow with blood and gold you have no friends. He adapted quickly and rose to the ranks till he led the organization himself through a clever coup of sabotage, sorcery and plot twists. But there's no one left to tell that tale. The generations that witnessed his rise are long gone now.

And as it was a woman that brought him into the underworld; a woman who opened his eyes to a world of sorcery; it's only fitting that it was a woman who gave him the gift of vampirism. The first couple of decades were the most chaotic and bloodiest times of his new life. The transition from man to beast requires time to fully comprehend what the sacrifices were, and what the reward really is. Then of course there's the bloodlust that never leaves his thoughts and like any vampire it took time to master control over it.

Having time to spare he expanded his business throughout China and had even chapters springing along the Silk Road. It was there somewhere close to the Turkish lands where he caught wind of rumors. A thriving kingdom of vampires. Scoffing at the gossip he chose to ignore it for in his 200 year journey he discovered that in every country there's a vampire who claims to be the King, the Prince, Duke, Lord of nothing. With how far Yongrui's reach goes he might as well call himself a king. So he ignored it but the deeper into European lands he traveled the more rumors he encountered; and stories, and witnesses. So out of curiosity he decided to follow the rumors to the Princedom of Lescatia.

Interesting Tidbid:

• Yongrui is a smuggler and deals in just about anything. Stolen goods, exotic animals, resources, drugs, human trafficking. You want something? He can probably get it. He even takes on special requests for the right price.
• His entourage are a handful of vampires, and a decent amount of living who either await the gift of vampirism or choose to mind their own business as long as the coin keeps flowing. While they work on the business side of things another handful of servants deal with menial labor such as cooking, cleaning, etc. and being Blood Slaves to the vampires, including himself. Although his crew does not shy away from finding nourishment elsewhere. The Blood Slaves are handy for when they need to keep low.
• Yongrui never felt the need to use mind control to catch prey. It's overkill in his opinion when you're already a predator with enhanced senses, strength, speed, and endurance. All he needs is the Hunt. However, he has learned to shield his mind from others instead.
• Yongrui is well aware of Iva's secret magic learning. He feigns ignorance out of curiosity and amusement because so far she hasn't shown signs of betrayal.

Current residence: Two years ago she moved to Lescatia with Yongrui and lives with him.

• The Black Cicada - She's Yongrui's servant.

Appearance: This scrawny mouse of a girl stands at 5'4 in height and moves as quiet and inconspicuous as you'd expect of someone who exists just to feed their masters. She's often seen wearing dull grey wool dresses with questionable stains and worn black shoes. When outside she wears the black, woolen hooded cape gifted by her master. Yongrui wants her to take care of her health; for Blood Slaves with an iron will like hers are hard to come by. Her eyes almost match her auburn hair which has soft waves that reach the middle of her back and is mostly kept loose. It is during bathday you'll see that being a Blood Slave is not as romantic as naive farmgirls think it is. Her skin is marred with vicious bite marks and scratches like that of an animal -and not two dainty red points; some are old and fading, and others painfully fresh.

Biography:
Iva's childhood like many was uneventful. She had loving parents who dreamed about their daughter finding a gentle husband one day and running a farm just like they did. Adorable siblings who cried when their pet chicken was served for dinner until they fell in love with another animal on the farm or one they found in the woods.

She was still a child when that fateful day happened. The day she was picking berries in the woods and heard screams coming from the farm. A pack of bandits had raided the farm, killed her parents and captured her siblings. Iva tried to run but she too was captured. What happened next is still blurry to her. She along with other captives were sold to a group of foreigners; she got separated from her siblings that day and never saw them again.

Human trafficking wasn't uncommon along the edges of civilization but to be sold to a group of vampires was…different. She's been a servant of Yongrui's entourage since the age of 12. She learned quite a bit about Vampirism under his scrutinous gaze. She understands her place, she understands their needs, but also their weaknesses. A secret encounter with an aging witch has taught her the arts of Fire magic.

Biography:
Very little is known about the dark servants of the Prince. This, of course, is intentional, as it's very hard to combat something you know very little about. As such, there is no concrete evidence about the nature of the Matriarch, simply that she exists, she serves the Prince, and she denies she has anything to do with the bear-sized spiders that serve as Lescatia's apex predators.

What can be known, however, is the fact that she is typically the "Custodian" of newcomer vampires. It's not easy to join Lescatia from the outside, the most obvious mandate being that you must be a vampire. It has happened before, as the Prince's very idea of Lescatia is to have it serve as a refuge for his kind, but few dare approach the place, and even fewer make the cut.

The matriarch stands as the typical eyes sent out to investigate and subsequently judge those that apply for asylum within the Prince's walls. As such, she lairs close to the holding the Prince has assigned to Yongrui, making sure that he takes care of the village the Prince has given him, and maintains the blockhouse the Prince had built for him. She also acts as a convenient messenger when the Prince has a personal request to the well-connected smuggler.

Interesting Tidbid: She probably knows about Iva's dabbling in fire magic, but it's permitted since she's not doing anything damaging with it
