Biography
Miri was one of three children born to a pair of mages in the Circle. While her parents were relieved the process happened without any loss of life, they weren't given a moment to truly love their babies. For as soon as they could, the Chantry took the triplets away and sent them to a nearby orphanage. Here the children were watched to see if they had any magical abilities like their parents. For the most part none of them showed anything, at least that was until Miri turned seven. At this age she got in a fight with her brother over a toy, and ended up burning the ear off the stuffed rabbit they shared.
Unable to hide this display of magic, Miri was taken from her siblings just like she was taken from her parents and were sent straight to a circle. One of which was far from her parents as well as her siblings, leaving her alone in foreign area. While she was young and didn't understand much of what was going on, she was quick to learn not to step on any of the templar's or senior mages toes. Something of which she had to learn through experience. For one time she messed up, and that ended up with her being in a horrible and rather painful situation. Something of which didn't go away for some years to come and installed a good deal of personal fear to Templars and their power.
Due to her situation, she struggled to make friends, or find anyone to really help her out while living in the circle. So she tried her best to hide, from her situation, either by burying her time into her studies/books. Or spending as much time as she could in the dream world, something she later became aware was called the fade. It took some time, but she learned that in her sleep, when she entered she found relief and peace in this place. For despite what she was told, the Fade was a beautiful place, well as long as she stayed away from any areas that seemed frightening, or that she got a sickening feeling from. Her time in the fade wasn't always the best, for she had experienced demons coming for her due to her abilities. Something of which was a massive amount of stress on her mind, however, she was able to fend them off and remain strong. Though sadly, despite being able to fend some off, the demons still try, which does take a burden on her.
Here she got her peace and sense of self, as she spent a great deal of time in the Fade, for she always felt a degree of safety in this world. However, she knew it wasn't always good, as demons lurked around any corner, she made sure not to dismiss all her teaching as nothing and made sure to study hard to avoid the worst outcome. She learned that she had the ability to shape things in the fade, though such power frightened her and she didn't use it much if at all. Rather she just used it as a place to escape from her life in the circle. It certainly helped, that maybe a year after she started to enter the fade without lyrium or blood magic, she started to feel a presence, one of kindness and warmth that seemed to be around her, watching her.
With the help of this retreat, and her own caution, life in the circle started to get better for her. She was able to study and learn more with the books she had and pleased many mages in the Circle. She learned that she seemed to have an affinity with healing and was doing her best to get better at such skills. Soon her life started to get even better, for around the age of 12/13 the first Mage-Templar war ended and mages were given more basic rights. Because of this, she was given information on her family both about her real parents and their wear a bouts as well as her siblings. Sadly, tensions were still high, and she couldn't leave the Circle right away, however she kept her hopes up.
Now encouraged by the idea of being able to meet her family, she wanted to do them proud and started to study even harder to be an exceptional healer. And that she started to become as she spoke with spirits in the Fade during her time there and was able to befriend them and on occasion ask for their help when it came to healing. The help of these kind spirits, helped make her healing abilities shine. For it was because of this magic that she was able to save the life of a few mages. Some of which were suffering from a wound that was inflicted on them during a small uprising that occurred in her circle. Something that involved some demons, a deranged group that thought they were fighting for a good cause etc.
Her abilities weren't ignored by her fellow mages or those that had authority, she was called for and asked by many to help heal the injured if possible. However, due to her having yet to complete the harrowing and still being a young age they didn't let her leave the walls just yet.
She had to wait a few more years before being allowed to take the Harrowing, something of which she passed with ease. Now a fully vetted mage she given special permission to leave the walls (only if she had a templar escort) and during these times she was allowed to go to near by villages to help the people there. From people injured by some beast, or some soldiers that took some almost fatal blows from some bandits.
During these trips from the circle to the villages near by, she was escorted by a single group of Templars for the most part. With one of the Templar's being a rather high ranking man with his own squad of other men. This man was Letif, a knight Corporal. While she had seen this man several times in the circle, she herself never truly spoke with him or his men other than the occasional respectable greeting. She was very unfamiliar with the man and his men on any kind of level and for the most part didn't make any attempts to converse with him other than ask a few basic questions from time to time. This did lead to awkward silences for the most part, however, she felt that was better than potentially angering the Templar she knew nothing about, after all, it was her word, against not only his, but his men as well. She was fully aware of who the circle would believe, so it was best to stay silent, do her job, and keep to herself during the travels.
For the most part the travels to the villages from the Circle and visa versa were simple enough. No bandits were foolish enough to even think of messing with such a party. Wild animals for the most part stayed off the road and far away from them. People they crossed on the path made room, and other than a few looks and whispers from those they passed by, there was nothing of interest or concern. Well, at least it was like that until one day when they were heading out, things to a sudden change for the worse.
As they were near the village, a group of darkspawn leapt from the woods and outright attacked Miri and the templars. They wanted to kill them as fast as they could, solely so they could raid and decimate the village the group was heading to. These Darkspawn were a force to be reckoned with as they had came prepared to the slaughter a village full of people. Luckily for said people, the Templars were no push overs, and rather than run for the hills, they stood their ground. The fight wasn't an easy one, especially with the Ogre being there. However, with the Templars skills, and Miri's healing spells, they were able to not just fend off the monsters but they slayed a great number of them, including the monstrous Ogre. Thanks to Miri, none of the templars fell despite receiving some nearly fatal injures, she managed to skillfully heal them and made sure none of them lost their lives.
After this battle, they took those that were wounded, though not fatally (as Miri felt it would be better if she used some tonics to help minor injures so she wouldn't exhaust herself) and headed to the village. However when they got there, they had been barred from entry at first, as many of the people there wanted Miri to leave and not even consider stepping a foot inside the village. Claiming it was her magic that had made the Darkspawn appear and almost kill them.
Finding this rather disheartening, seeing as she was solely trying to help them. She was about to comply and leave. However, before she could do as such. Letif spoke up for her, defending her and persuading the townsfolk to leave her be. Something of which Miri found out right surprising, for never had a Templar of all people defended her in any shape or form. Though greatly surprising, Miri was especially grateful for the him jumping to her defense.
It was from here on, that she started to have a bit more faith in the man and his group, finding that they may not be as bad as the other Templars she had to deal with in her life. These events caused her to be more inquisitive about the man, and she found his presence more enjoyable rather than awkward. While they may not be extremely close to one another. Miri certainly isn't frightened of him as much as she is with other Templars, and those enjoy conversing with him as well. Though she doesn't speak to him much in the presences of too many prying eyes. For she knew Mages and Templar's socializing was something that the Chantry most certainly didn't care for.
As time went on, she and Letif came into more encounters with Darkspawn, though for the most part none of the attacks were the same as the first one they had to deal with. At least the force wasn't nearly as strong. None the less they were still attacks from Darkspawn, many proving deadly. Not just with their weapon and force, but their diseases as well. For try as she might, while she could heal wounds of all nature, this disease that the Darkspawn brought with them was something completely out of her control. She tried her best, but there were no positive results sadly as the blight took the people she tried to save.
Distraught by the fact she couldn't heal those that had been infected, she escaped to the fade once more to calm herself and come to an understanding. As she did so, she started to explore the fade, she spoke to spirit's there ranging from her friends to those that she just met for the first time. Eventually, she started understand the peril that the land was in. Of course, she wanted nothing more than to help and find a way to save people before there was no chance. So she pleaded to the Grand Enchanter once granted and audience for a chance to help, to save people before it was too late.
While the Enchanter was curious as to how she learned of such things despite the fact no such thing had been told to the rest of the mages. He didn't outright deny her request. Instead he debated it along others about what to do and how to go about this. For while they did trust Miri's abilities, she was still a mage who could turn at any point should she choose to, or should she face a demon far too powerful for even her. After great debate among them, it was decided that she could join the group, though another phylactery had to be made.
This phylactery was given to Letif, for just like her, he was being sent with the group to find the Grey Wardens. He was put in charge of making sure Miri never turned and made it back to the Circle when all was said and done. Miri was rather pleased with this, for if her phylactery were to be in anyone's hands, she preferred it to be in the hands of a Templar she had faith in. To her, he was the only one that she felt deserved to have that responsibility, or at the very least, he was the only she trusted not to do something with it out of pure spite.
Accepting these conditions, she went with Letif to join a group and search for the Wardens. She hopes to not only find them, but to just possibly get a chance to meet her family. While she doesn't have high hopes such a detour could be made, she silently wishes for it to happen as she hadn't had a chance to meet them ever since she was taken away.
Class and Specialization
Mage; Sprit mage
Defining Strength
Healer Not only by magic but herbs and remedies as well. Even when she was in the circle she spent a large part of her life learning about ways to heal and treat people that felt ill. She is very capable of creating tonics for different situations, as long as she has the materials to do so. Her spells, while not at a master level, can heal and she takes great pride in her ability to do so.
Other Strengths:
Dreamer: Miri is one of the rare and almost extinct dreamers. She has the ability to enter the Fade without the ritual that is used by Blood Mages or those that use Lyrium. Rather all she needs are some herbs to help her cross into the Fade. She can slip herself into other people's dream is she desires and manipulate them to an extent. There once she has enough experience at such things at least, she could have the ability to shape the Fade.
Friendliness Even in her harsh situation, Miri is a kind and rather gentle soul. While not the most confident she is very genuine and if one is willing to listen to her would find she isn't a bad person in spirit or heart. Her friendliness makes it decently easy for her to meet people, converse and even trade.
Protective While she may have been hurt in her life, she doesn't truly hold any hatred in her heart. Rather she still goes out of her way to protect people in need with her magic and however else she can. These people can be children, or regular day to day people. As long as the subject isn't a evil being, she will more likely than not attempt to help said person out.
Courageous While there was a time that she was spooked of her own shadow, she has outgrown that shell for the most part and has learned to be brave. She isn't one to just back down from something bad just because it may be easier. Should she be given a reason, be it someone to protect or to obtain a dream of hers. She will fight through what she has to, be it mentally or something else.
Greatest Weakness
Beacon for demons Due to her connections with not just benevolent spirits, but her abilities as a dreamer, she is quiet the treat for any demon that wishes to cross the veil over to enter into their world. Demons of all kind be them weak or powerful but more often than not malicious, may find her and attempt to use her as the needed catalyst to leave the veil. This can occur a great number of ways, while currently she hasn't fallen for it. This is a great deal of stress for her and one day she may not be able to push them back. This holds true when she is in the fade as well, for during here she is rather sensitive to their actions and existence, as just them being around her causes great mental pain.
Other Weaknesses
Fear of Templars While in her life she was used to being by templars as it was just a daily thing. She still isn't comfortable near them due to some incidents in her past. While she may try to act normal, she does have a fear to them, especially ones she doesn't know personally. She always assumes that Templars enjoy controlling mages unless said templar proves otherwise.
Absent minded While one that is great at studying, she does tend to have her heads in the clouds quite often. For that had been her way to entertain herself during her time of solitude as she traveled. She has a tendency to just drift in her mind and can stop mid conversation just to dwell on some thoughts that appeared in her head.
Talks to those that aren't there She has a tendency to speak to the spirits that help her despite the fact no one else can see them. This can prove to be quiet the spectacle to those that aren't used to it and is certainly strange. Along with that she does have a small tendency to forget that talking to things that aren't there isn't the best thing to do.
Not a heavy combat fighter While she has gone out of her way to learn more offensive spells to help her survive, she by no means is a master at it. She spent her life learning defensive spells and restoration. Meaning her offensive spells are limited. That and when it comes to fighting people....well she doesn't know how to exactly do that for she has faced off against the occasion wolf or bear. Humans that try to harm her she more averagely than not creates a distraction and runs.
